Redmond returns for Southampton as Fraser benched again

Southampton midfielder Nathan Redmond (£6.3m) is back in the starting line-up following injury.

He returns to the side just as Moussa Djenepo (£5.4m) drops out with a knock of his own.

It looks as if Redmond will sit next to Sofiane Boufal (£5.5m) in a central attacking midfield duo behind centre-forward Che Adams (£5.7m).

The return of Kevin Danso (£4.5m) will also be welcome news for Ralph Hasenhüttl, who was forced into playing a back-three with Djenepo as a wing-back in the win over Sheffield United.

Visitors Bournemouth have gone with a 4-4-2 formation which features Ryan Fraser (£7.3m) on the bench for a second match running.

On the flanks of midfield are Josh King (£6.3m) and Harry Wilson (£6.0m) while Callum Wilson (£7.8m) and Dominic Solanke (£5.4m) lead the line.

Also of note is another start at left-back for Diego Rico (£4.1m), who offers better value compared to the likes of Nathan Aké (£4.9m) and Steve Cook (£5.0m).

Southampton XI (4-3-2-1): Gunn; Danso, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Cédric; Højbjerg, Romeu, Ward-Prowse; Boufal, Redmond; Adams.

Bournemouth XI (4-4-2): Ramsdale; Rico, Aké, S Cook, Stacey; J King, Lerma, Billing, H Wilson; Solanke, C Wilson.

It’s more a case of favourite team than fan. Fan means standing in the rain watching them get hammered again after being relegated.

you right tho the marketting and pre season US tours are genius, Football in America will explode eventually when they realise that MLS needs relegation and promotion to be competitive.

If they keep genuinely supporting the team when the tough times come, then it's not a problem.

There are probably thousands of Americans who started supporting United because they were dominating, but if they stuck through the Moyes era then it's fair enough.

I personally know many ppl in the US (where I'm from) that only supported Utd when they were dominating and same goes for City in the past 5 years. The only true fellow American I know who has supported an English side through thick and thin is a Leeds supporter.

Have I imagined it or did someone post that they started Rico and benched KDB as they messed around with their WC team right to the deadline?

Given Rico is on for a 10 pointer I fear fate will conspire to get KDB a 2 pointer (and ive captained KDB...)

Really hoping Rico can keep his spot. He wold be a better option than most 4.5's.

a 4.0m playing def is worthy of a place in anyones team let alone one who actually scores points...golddust for sure
question is how long will he keep his place

the problem is, most will have got as bench fodder while playing more expensive defs...now you have to make a choice of whether to play him with a good fixture and bench someone like digne/TAA with a bad one

      can only lead to tears

      1. FOO FIGHTER
        • 4 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

I would not bench Rico for either TAA or Gigne but I decided to play him instead of Lund and Dunk this gameek.

I say a pretty good move in the end.

        • 6 Years

Rico for sure would rotate as a 4th def if needed with Lund. Otherwise you put both on the bench in a preferred order each week depending on match ups
