Potter tinkers again as Murray and Duffy benched for Brighton

Brighton manager Graham Potter continues to prove himself as unpredictable as far as tactics and team selections are concerned.

Once again, he has rolled out a completely different system to last time out as the Seagulls prepare for an away match at Newcastle.

Potter has lined up his troops in a 4-3-1-2 system lead by Neal Maupay (£6.0m) and budget midfielder Steven Alzate (£4.5m).

Unafraid of keeping his senior players on their toes, the manager has also put Glenn Murray (£5.8m) and Shane Duffy (£5.0m) on the bench.

That makes for a centre-back partnership of Lewis Dunk (£4.6m) and Adam Webster (£4.4m), while Dan Burn (£4.5m) retains his left-back berth of a week ago after playing in the middle for the first four matches of the season.

Meanwhile, Martín Montoya (£4.5m) has recovered from tonsilitis and reclaims his place at right-back and Aaron Mooy (£4.9m) gets his first start in midfield.

By contrast, Newcastle go with their tried and tested 5-3-2 formation, led by Joelinton (£5.9m) and Miguel Almirón (£5.9m).

However, there is unlikely to massive FPL interest in this Saturday evening game as the most popular player on show will be on the Brighton bench.

David Button (£4.0m) remains in 25% of teams and is also the most fashionable shot-stopper among managers inside the top 10,000 as well.

Dunk is the most popular playing asset, currently in 11% of teams, while no Newcastle player is owned by more than Isaac Hayden‘s (£4.5m) 6.5%.

Newcastle XI: Dúbravka; Willems, Dummett, Lascelles, Schär, Manquillo; Atsu, Shelvey, Hayden; Almirón, Joelinton.

Brighton XI: Ryan; Burn, Webster, Dunk, Montoya; Mooy, Stephens, Pröpper; Groß; Alzate, Maupay.

VC Rashford points will be Captain points as Sterling was my Captain.

Greenwood haul coming off my bench from 3rd position alongside Rico Lundstram would be a thing of beauty.

Would make up for Sterling(c) somewhat!

Cantwell 3rd sub last week, Lundstram this week. Never mind. Ota & KDB(c) mean I’m on 65 with some very good players still to go. Thanks to those on here that made a good argument for KDB.

    Bottomed...

    Advice please from cool heads

    Pope
    VvD, Robbo, Digne, (Lund, Hanley)
    Sterling, KdB, Son, Mount, Cantwell
    Auber, Pukki (Wickam)

I'm stuck in a position where I can't see a way to get Abraham in after the Liverpool game. I have no players I'm really willing to drop. It would mean making no transfer this week, playing digne v City, then taking a -4 to do it. Or getting rid of Auber or Pukki, and neither deserve it and they have good fixtures.

Should I just ride this out and hope Tammy eases off?

He hasn't register a single assist which does ease the worry a little as when the goals do (hopefully) dry up.

If you bring him in for Wickham for a hit, you going to bench Cantwell? I'd do without for a week then take stock.

      1. Pacer.
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

I think, THINK it's the best option. Benching Cantwell isnt a problem given his price. What is a problem is that I'm not willing to

        A) downgrade 2 defenders
        B) downgrade son or KdB
        C) downgrade one player and swap with Pukki

I'm not sure any of those make wise moves. So the only other option really is straight swap for Auber and reinvest elsewhere. And I don't like that either

How has that big at the back worked out for you? Maybe time to let it go?

I am giving Digne the boot tonight, and that will give me Barnes to Tammy.

It's trundling along. It's not providing great value but it's also not a disaster. I feel like I'd be dismantling it then rebuilding it very shortly after is inevitable so I'm happy to leave it

To clarify. I take it if Sterling was Captain and KDB vice then all the double points go to vice. Also I had Rico first sub and Lundy third sub. So with Mount and Sterling not playing I’m hoping Greenwood doesn’t come on as 2nd sub. Is this right?
