Dugout Discussion

Potter tinkers again as Murray and Duffy benched for Brighton

Brighton manager Graham Potter continues to prove himself as unpredictable as far as tactics and team selections are concerned.

Once again, he has rolled out a completely different system to last time out as the Seagulls prepare for an away match at Newcastle.

Potter has lined up his troops in a 4-3-1-2 system lead by Neal Maupay (£6.0m) and budget midfielder Steven Alzate (£4.5m).

Unafraid of keeping his senior players on their toes, the manager has also put Glenn Murray (£5.8m) and Shane Duffy (£5.0m) on the bench.

That makes for a centre-back partnership of Lewis Dunk (£4.6m) and Adam Webster (£4.4m), while Dan Burn (£4.5m) retains his left-back berth of a week ago after playing in the middle for the first four matches of the season.

Meanwhile, Martín Montoya (£4.5m) has recovered from tonsilitis and reclaims his place at right-back and Aaron Mooy (£4.9m) gets his first start in midfield.

By contrast, Newcastle go with their tried and tested 5-3-2 formation, led by Joelinton (£5.9m) and Miguel Almirón (£5.9m).

However, there is unlikely to massive FPL interest in this Saturday evening game as the most popular player on show will be on the Brighton bench.

David Button (£4.0m) remains in 25% of teams and is also the most fashionable shot-stopper among managers inside the top 10,000 as well.

Dunk is the most popular playing asset, currently in 11% of teams, while no Newcastle player is owned by more than Isaac Hayden‘s (£4.5m) 6.5%.

Newcastle XI: Dúbravka; Willems, Dummett, Lascelles, Schär, Manquillo; Atsu, Shelvey, Hayden; Almirón, Joelinton.

Brighton XI: Ryan; Burn, Webster, Dunk, Montoya; Mooy, Stephens, Pröpper; Groß; Alzate, Maupay.

    "Mason Greenwood was not spotted in United's travelling squad and nor were Diogo Dalot or James Garner. Injured stars Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial were also missing".

    Daniel James traveled with the squad.

    Enjoy the Lundstram autosubs you filthy casual animals!

        Sadly booted out Bilva for Son, Kane for Aguero ( captain him) Zinchenko our for Rico (missing Lundstram autosub), aurier for Digne made no difference, pukki for Wesley, Zaha for Mount, plus some irrelevant others amendments.

        There’s always Week 7 and so on.

          Come on - let’s be realistic - Stirling is immense and has now had his rest. There is a reason people like Mark never sell him. He is a
          Season keeper. Ripping your team
          Up And wasting a wildcard to basically do Stirling -> Aguero will end in tears.

              100% this is correct approach this week

              See if Zinchenko starts this week
              Then decide - the fact he wasn’t in the squad implies it may just be a rest rather than lost his place

    Thoughts? Had a bad start but WC in tact and my team is starting not to suck

    1FT 1.5m ITB

    Ryan Button
    VVD, Digne, AWB Söyüncü, Lundstram
    Salah, Stirling, KDB, Mount, Cantwell
    Pukki, Jota, Greenwood

    Planning Jota -> Abraham this week

    Longer term I’d like to do:
    A) Digne/ AWB -> Otamendi
    B) VVD -> TAA
    C) Ryan -> Pope

    Any better ideas? Just do gradually or take a hit or 2 to accelerate?

          Or I could give him the Watford fixture and do one of the others (see how he goes tomorrow)

            Yeh see how he goes tomorrow. You’ll be gutted if Jota is benched against Watford, Think I’d be shipping him regardless and just suck up what ever he gets.
            Abraham has form and has good fixtures coming.

        Genuine question - why did you put Lund ahead of Soy on the bench?

        I did the opposite 🙁

              The question was AWB or Lundstram tbh.

        Im comparing him to Cleverley in the members area and its interesting viewing, especially considering Cantwell stats are boosted by a tap in against City.

    I have 5 cheap defenders I've been rotating in a 352:
    Tarkowski Lundstram Dunk Guilbert Soyunku
    I have 0.6m to spend on upgrading (happy with the rest of my team and have 2ft)
    Any advice? Cheers
