Dugout Discussion

Potter tinkers again as Murray and Duffy benched for Brighton

Brighton manager Graham Potter continues to prove himself as unpredictable as far as tactics and team selections are concerned.

Once again, he has rolled out a completely different system to last time out as the Seagulls prepare for an away match at Newcastle.

Potter has lined up his troops in a 4-3-1-2 system lead by Neal Maupay (£6.0m) and budget midfielder Steven Alzate (£4.5m).

Unafraid of keeping his senior players on their toes, the manager has also put Glenn Murray (£5.8m) and Shane Duffy (£5.0m) on the bench.

That makes for a centre-back partnership of Lewis Dunk (£4.6m) and Adam Webster (£4.4m), while Dan Burn (£4.5m) retains his left-back berth of a week ago after playing in the middle for the first four matches of the season.

Meanwhile, Martín Montoya (£4.5m) has recovered from tonsilitis and reclaims his place at right-back and Aaron Mooy (£4.9m) gets his first start in midfield.

By contrast, Newcastle go with their tried and tested 5-3-2 formation, led by Joelinton (£5.9m) and Miguel Almirón (£5.9m).

However, there is unlikely to massive FPL interest in this Saturday evening game as the most popular player on show will be on the Brighton bench.

David Button (£4.0m) remains in 25% of teams and is also the most fashionable shot-stopper among managers inside the top 10,000 as well.

Dunk is the most popular playing asset, currently in 11% of teams, while no Newcastle player is owned by more than Isaac Hayden‘s (£4.5m) 6.5%.

Newcastle XI: Dúbravka; Willems, Dummett, Lascelles, Schär, Manquillo; Atsu, Shelvey, Hayden; Almirón, Joelinton.

Brighton XI: Ryan; Burn, Webster, Dunk, Montoya; Mooy, Stephens, Pröpper; Groß; Alzate, Maupay.

More annoying when you get him and don’t rate him at all so you bench him and have 12 points staring at you from bench. You need to be a jammy FPL player too that makes bad decisions like keeping sterling to get away with it.

Im just keeping, he’ll punish sellers, maybe not next week or the week after, but eventually

He just has too many ways to score

Everton can’t stay this bad, they have largely he same personnel that kept a record breaking amount of CS’s last year

It’s just the elusivity of form

Everyone saying how fortunate Sterling (c) are with KDC (VC).
I bed to differ as if Sterling was to have played in that game I would hate to think how many points he would have scored to go with KDB's points. An 8-0 you'd think Sterling would have also had double digits.

He would 100% go to Everton, they have money they spend 40mil on Iwobi. Spend the money on the manager, Silva is out of his depth.
Jose will take it ez because its no pressure and he likes their squad, he can only achieve not under-perform.

Greenwood hasn’t travelled with Man U squad

He’s first on my bench with Lundstram second

Hoping he hasn’t just made his own way there 🙂

Unpopular opinion. But Mahrez deserves to be starting ahead of Sterling at the moment.

Sterling mostly plays on the left. Mahrez mostly plays on the right.

When Mendy plays, Mahrez can play the Sterling role though. Or you put Mahrez on the right and Bernardo on the left.

Either way, Mahrez and Bernardo are in much better form than Sterling IMO. Even if Sterling is the classier player overall.

He’ll lose that left wing spot for England very soon too if King keeps his performances up.

Imagine the scenes if Sterling is rested in the next GW as well.

The Trossard injury was very unfortunate for them, he was looking good.

2FT. Wan Bissaka and Barnes to Abraham and Aurier. Is that a good move? Would have to do tonight as got the exact funds.

He just looks great everytime he plays for Arsenal, and with Laca out I see him more involved.

I guess you're right though. Will have to monitor against Villa

Agreed. Lots of competition / rotation in Emery’s midfield though. Think the midfield 3 could be Xhaka, guendouzi, Ozil tomorrow.

Who would be the front 3 though? No Laca and Nelson hasnt started at all.

Ozil most likely plays behind auba and Pepe, and Ceballos plays in the midfiled 3

I’m thinking we could see Pepe Auba Nelson front 3 tomorrow. You may also be right! I’m not sure Emery would play both ceballos and ozil in the same lineup though.
