FPL Question Time – Consult our panel ahead of Gameweek 7

As per usual, there are a tonne of questions ahead of the Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 7 deadline.

Manchester City assets continue to be under threat from rotation, Liverpool still can’t keep clean sheets and Norwich continue to blank away from home.

To answer some of these dilemmas, we have put together another panel of Fantasy managers to help you out…

Who’s on the panel this week?

FPL General – Contributor to the Scout site who has three finishes inside the top 400 in the last five seasons and who has a huge following on Twitter. General – aka Mark – also appears regularly on the official FPL Show.

FPL Hints – One of the most-followed names in the FPL community, a seasoned veteran as well as a Scout writer and an Official FPL panellist. Finished 110th in the world in 2011/12.

FPL Heisenberg – Influencer within the FPL community with a top 10k finish in 2016/17, followed by top 1k in 2017/18.

Joe – Our very own Scoutcast and video host, long-time servant of the site, keeper of the Goals Imminent table and seven top 10k FPL finishes.

Do we have any idea how long Emerson is out for?

None yet but the fact he broke down after being out for a couple of games makes me think they will be more cautious this time around (especially given fixtures). Suspect it will be 2-3 weeks minimum now.

The issue is the IB in 2 gameweeks time, that gives Emerson ample time to come back. If he is out for longer, Alonso could be a gem with those fixtures coming up. He plays very advanced and take FK's, set pieces etc. In short we all know Alonso's potential, an absolute FPL legend.

For those already with Pukki and Abraham, who's your pick for that 3rd striker spot?

Firmino's suddenly peaked my interest. In brilliant form this season (both FPL and actual football).

Auba is the obvious temptation but I'm hesitant to roll with an Arsenal player as one of my premiums through doubts about Arsenal in general.

Suddenly started toying with the idea of Salah and Barnes out, Son and Firmino in...

Salah out is a scary thought but I genuinely only have him because of the fear of not owning him. Watching him lately, he doesn't look completely at it.

Salah has not blanked. Let's say if you capped him from GW1 that would be 100 points just from him.

Are you going to cap Firmino or Son every week?

Good point. And no I wouldn't captain Firmino or Son most weeks.

Regardless of Saturday's benching, Sterling could almost be a perma-captain.

Salah does also provide that perma-captain option, but I just have a few doubts around him atm.

I'd even put Vardy into the mix with the fixtures Leicester have.

I have Barnes right now alongside the two yup mentioned. Giving him 2 more games (avl, EVE) and then will look to shift to an emerging bandwagon.

I have Pukki, Abraham, Haller but then have a fairly expensive mid and 2 premium defs (Ota and VVD)

I have Haller as my third spot. I think he will come good, he has good stats. But if I had more money I would have Firmino and nd if I hade insane amouts of money I would have Aguero.

Haller looks like a great player. I sold him last week for Abraham (kept Barnes).

No doubt Haller will score goals but his role seems to be to bring others into the game more.

I'm looking at something very similar... Haven't pulled the trigger yet though. I've got to get Abraham in with those fixtures and his form... Just have to figure out if I trade him for Haller or move other pieces around to put this and Haller alongside Pukki up top...

Barnes is overrated, there is no reason or indication that he'll outscore his last few year averages significantly and Abraham has a great fixture. So yes. Worth it both in short term and long term.

Barnes is taking a lot of shots, but the quality isn't as good... And while Tammy is over-performing right now, his xG still says he is an incredible bargain...I think I'm about to do that same trade for -4

Why don't you look at how nailed club captains tend to be for their teams. Here's a hint; Morgan is Leicester's club captain.

      4 years, 6 months ago

I'm not a Norwich fan but the answer to your question is no. He was fourth choice CB last season in the Championship. He's been playing a bit this year because of injuries to others. Last week he was fit and only made the bench. I have him in my side as bench fodder but even if he plays what score is he going to get? If he had played every game this season he's scores would have been -2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1. So that's 4 points in six games. I'm planning to upgrade him to a 4.5 next week

    4. Klaren
      • 6 Years
      4 years, 6 months ago

He wasn't fully fit against City and Farke probably didn't want to change the winning team against Burnley, but Amadou is a midfielder not a defender so Hanley might be preferred over him.

I like it a lot. I'm on a WC too and have stuck with Salah & Sterling for now as I don't want to be too reactionary to recent results but I can't afford Son or Aguero because of it.

I'd consider Otamendi over Robertson and Soyuncu over Tomori, perhaps?

Thanks for the feedback. I like Otamendi but I just think city are going to demolish their next few teams, hence wanting 3 city attackers.

Very nice, if i was wc-ing i might get TAA and Robbo too. Only thing i would chance, but that doesn't make your options bad:

Just because i like to be a bit different on WC

Considering a Chelsea defender for their beautiful run of fixtures. Think they can turn it around and get a couple of CS's in the next few.

Leaning towards going all out on either Azpi or Alonso with Emerson out. Otherwise Tomori looks good but feels like both Alonso/Tomori are both transfers waiting to happen. Therefore leaning towards a punt on Azpi.. Thoughts?

Exactly, I see a couple of 10+ pointers on the horizon so might just take the punt. Only problem is that it puts more £ in defence when I'm trying to move it forward!

Azpi isn't nailed either! James is back from injury and will be playing his first game in the League Cup tomorrow night. He's another very highly rated academy product (like Mount, CHO, Abraham, Tomori, RLC, Ampadu) and was Wigan's player of the season last year. Azpi has been poor this year and it is possible that he will lose some minutes to James. Chelsea got rid of Zapacosta to keep him in the squad and Lampard has been more than happy to play the young kids

Good player but just can't help thinking Leicester going to be like wolves last season - not many CSs and a lot of single goals conceded.

    1. ZeBestee
      • 9 Years

Lei are good defensively but they have to commit more men forward when playing against lesser teams, hence keeping less cleansheets in the process. Fixtures change from GW9 though so I expect their CS potential to improve.

You get what you pay for and at 4.5 he is probably the cheapest way into a good side with good upcoming fixtures (Tomori might be another one, perhaps a West Ham defender as well). They haven't had easy games so far defensively (Spurs, Chelsea, Wolves, Man Utd, Bournemouth) and they have only conceded five goals so for 4.5 he is a good enabler with potential for clean sheets

How's this looking? On a WC but pretty worried about the defence:

    Pope / Button
    Aurier / Otamendi / TAA / Lundstram / Soyuncu
    Salah / KDB / Sterling / Guendouzi / Mount
    Abraham / Pukki / Greenwood

1.5 ITB to upgrade a striker perhaps

Not really - he might miss a game around the Bayern fixture but that is what benches are for. Should start 3 of the next 4.

I have pretty much the same defence, only got Guilbert instead of TAA. So I'm jealous of that defence 🙂

A thing of beauty, could have ayew maybe? Would be nervous if city rotation risk and Greenwood, might miss out on a few points due to that.

In the members area, where can I simply see the player's scores so far? And compare f.e. up-to 7mil. players with their scores.

You can do that on the FPL site, you don't need the members area for that.

Greenwood likely to get some gametime from now on until rashford is back?

    1. ZeBestee

Martial is back though and Ole is under pressure, so while I expect a start soon, if he doesn't do well then he is out of the team straight away. Of course if he does well then he is getting extended stay.

      1. FF Dirtbag
        • 12 Years

Yeah so I thought he might push martial wide and put greenwood up front
to allow for the rashford hole.

WC team gtg - getting comfortable with it finally?

    button/Pope

    Lund/ Tomori/ TAA/ Diop/ Ota

    Salah/ McGinn / KDB / Cantwell/ Mount

    Abraham/ Pukki / Aguero

    Any changes you would make?

not liking the look of no sterling, and potential to switch things up and bring in Son or Auba

    Cheers

    A. Soyuncu and Maddison
    B. Azpi and Cantwell
    C. Pereira and Cantwell
    D. Soyuncu and Haller

(Nb. A-C have Greenwood as fodder, D would be a 4.5 mid)
