Captain Poll

Gameweek 7 captaincy proving tricky as vote splits across several options

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) has returned to the summit of captain consideration for Gameweek 7.

However, the Liverpool midfielder is far from being the only viable candidate according to the Fantasy Football Scout community.

As things stand, Salah has the support of 28% in our latest poll, ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United.

The Egyptian has averaged 8.3 points per game this season while the Blades have kept just one clean sheet at home in the Premier League.

That said, Salah has, thus far, performed better at Anfield in 2019/20. In front of his own fans, he has produced four goals and one assist, compared to just two assists and no goals away from home.

That may be why there is a handful of alternative options being considered by the community this week.

Despite failing to score against Liverpool, Tammy Abraham (£7.4m) is being strongly considered at this stage, as Chelsea prepare to host Brighton in Gameweek 7.

The centre-forward has found the net seven times this season while Brighton lost their last trip to a top-six side 4-0.

Interestingly, Manchester City players are not currently challenging the very top of the captain poll after the initial spate of voting.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) is currently the most popular of these, backed by 12.9% of voters in the Fantasy Football Scout poll.

That demonstrates an understanding of Pep Guardiola’s rotation techniques, in that the England international’s benching against Watford indicates a sure start when his side travels to face Everton.

However, Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) and Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) are perhaps less secure given that they both played in the 8-0 demolition of Watford.

That may explain why both of them currently have less backing in the captain poll.

Centre-forward Aguero, yet to blank this season, has the support of just 7.1% while de Bruyne, who scored 17 points in Gameweek 6, has been tipped as the best captain option by 4.9%.

Fantasy managers may also be concerned about Everton’s defence perhaps, as they were tipped as one of the more reliable sources of clean sheets over the summer.

This proved to be the case for the first two matches of the campaign as the Toffees kept Crystal Palace out in Gameweek 1 and Watford in Gameweek 2.

But since then, Everton have conceded a minimum of two goals in every game and with their defence now being severely questioned, a meeting with Manchester City is far from ideal.

Also pushing his way in as a left-field candidate for the Gameweek 7 captaincy is Tottenham’s Son Heung-min (£9.6m).

The South Korean has attacking returns in each of his last two matches while Southampton have conceded 1.5 goals per game so far this season.

They were particularly shaky at the back in their most recent outing where they were beaten 3-1 by Bournemouth.

As already mentioned, the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll is now open and you can vote either below or on the side-bar of the website.

Joe and David have also discussed the destination of their Gameweek 7 armbands on our YouTube channel. You can also watch this below.

    What are people's thoughts on Maddison? Stats seem to have improved slightly over the last 2 matches, obviously helped by his goal at the weekend.

        I'm not very tempted by West Ham defenders to be honest - they are typically a very open team and the stats suggest they should have conceded a lot more goals. United missed 2 huge chances against them this week for example.

    Repost for new article:

    For those considering Leicester assets with their fixture run, I found this comment from their fan forum very interesting about the importance of their formation, if you want to read it:

    "Games played 4-1-4-1 with Maddison in the centre with Tielemans

    Won 3-1 v Fulham - Maddison assist, Tielemans goal, Barnes assist

    Won 2-1 v Burnley - Maddison goal, Tielemans assist

    Won 2-0 v Bournemouth - Tielemans assist

    Won 4-1 v Huddersfield - Maddison and Tielemans with a goal each

    Won 3-0 v Arsenal - this was the first appearance of Maddison on the wing but thankfully when they went to 10 men we brought on Barnes at half time and Maddison resumed his role with Youri. Result? Maddison assist and Tielemans goal

    Won 3-1 v Bournemouth - the only game this season he was selected it at Tielemans scores one and assists one

    So out of 8 games we've played 4-1-4-1 we have scored 19 goals, of which Maddison has scored 2 and assisted 2 and Tielemans has scored 4 and assisted 4 I think? (got 2 further assists before 4-1-4-1 although again he was paired with Maddison in a similar system) So that's 2.4 goals a game the team has scored in this system.

    Compare that with us playing Maddison on the wing in 6 games where we have scored 3 goals, 2 of which have been assisted by Maddison and zero from Tielemans. So 0.5 goals a match collectively for the team.

    Even taking in to account the level of opposition faced against the differing systems and hopefully Rodgers at least showing he's willing to go back to 4-1-4-1 vs the dross in this division it is beggars belief how he is moving away from such a strong system for his two key creative players, Tielemans being the one who suffers the most as well as Vardy evidently being anonymous once again in the current system. Maddison's goal output is fairly poor anyway, his last goal from open play was in December last year but the work he does with Tielemans in a 4-1-4-1 for the team as a whole is essential, his assists in these games have all been from open play where as 1 of his 2 assists when he's played on the wing under Brendaball was a set piece which isnt formation dependent.

    I'm very angry. Sort it out Brendan!!!!!"

        just food for thought. You can only look at this season and see that they have looked better in the 4-1-4-1 attacking wise with Maddison central

    As a one week captaincy punt, who do you think is a better option?

    A) Kane (c)

    B) Vardy (c)

      A but if they were in my team I would do B as I have no faith in Kane (c)

    Zinchenko -> Otamendi leaves me with 1 FT.

    Which of these would you do? Happy to do both and take a -4 hit. But is it worth it?

    1. Digne -> Soyuncu
    2. Mane -> Son (c)

      Wait on more news on Mane, if for he could easily out score Son, knowing spurs it’s likely...if he is fit I’d do 1 if not then 2

    Robbo & TAA too much money at the back? Or a good deferential?

      Robertson is at approximately 20% ownership; TAA 28%. I’m not sure you can call them differentials.

      A clean sheet & an assist will see money move to the back again.

      Too much cash stashed in defence. Kinda hamstrings you from getting the premium mids. Suggest Son, Sterling, KDB etc

    Both Sheffield united and Everton are relatively tough defences. Time for differential captain?

    Son would be my captain if I had him

    Atm the armband goes to Tammy

    1FT, What do I do:

    A) Mane -> Son (c)
    B) Digne -> Soyuncu
    C) Both

    If not A I will captain Aguero/Sterling. I'm thinking C as it frees up the funds to go Son -> Salah gw10

        Currently on WC and debating on last two spots - have Salah, KDB, Mount and Aguero already. Which two would you go for?

        A) Aubameyang/Yarmolenko
        B) Dilva/Firmino
        C) Son/Abraham

          No worries mate. A bit of advice would be to follow your gut feelings. You will get a lot of good advice on here, but i wouldn't go with what the crowd thinks if your gut instinct says different.

    Thoughts on Digne to Azpli.
    Chelsea have some really nice fixtures coming up and get does love to get forward?

    1. Bobby Digital
      • 6 Years

      Thought about Digne to Azpi, then I checked the stats and Chelsea are nowhere to be found. Went with Aurier in the end. Will invest in Chelski defense if they start keeping cleanies.

      1. King Henrik
        • 12 Years

        Fair enough although I already have Aurier and need a Digne replacement. Also have Trent so struggling to find a replacement.

        1. Bobby Digital

          Then I would probably take a punt on Azpi.

      Reece James might be a threat to Azpi's minutes, especially given how poor Azpi has been
