Captain Poll

Gameweek 7 captaincy proving tricky as vote splits across several options

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) has returned to the summit of captain consideration for Gameweek 7.

However, the Liverpool midfielder is far from being the only viable candidate according to the Fantasy Football Scout community.

As things stand, Salah has the support of 28% in our latest poll, ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United.

The Egyptian has averaged 8.3 points per game this season while the Blades have kept just one clean sheet at home in the Premier League.

That said, Salah has, thus far, performed better at Anfield in 2019/20. In front of his own fans, he has produced four goals and one assist, compared to just two assists and no goals away from home.

That may be why there is a handful of alternative options being considered by the community this week.

Despite failing to score against Liverpool, Tammy Abraham (£7.4m) is being strongly considered at this stage, as Chelsea prepare to host Brighton in Gameweek 7.

The centre-forward has found the net seven times this season while Brighton lost their last trip to a top-six side 4-0.

Interestingly, Manchester City players are not currently challenging the very top of the captain poll after the initial spate of voting.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) is currently the most popular of these, backed by 12.9% of voters in the Fantasy Football Scout poll.

That demonstrates an understanding of Pep Guardiola’s rotation techniques, in that the England international’s benching against Watford indicates a sure start when his side travels to face Everton.

However, Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) and Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) are perhaps less secure given that they both played in the 8-0 demolition of Watford.

That may explain why both of them currently have less backing in the captain poll.

Centre-forward Aguero, yet to blank this season, has the support of just 7.1% while de Bruyne, who scored 17 points in Gameweek 6, has been tipped as the best captain option by 4.9%.

Fantasy managers may also be concerned about Everton’s defence perhaps, as they were tipped as one of the more reliable sources of clean sheets over the summer.

This proved to be the case for the first two matches of the campaign as the Toffees kept Crystal Palace out in Gameweek 1 and Watford in Gameweek 2.

But since then, Everton have conceded a minimum of two goals in every game and with their defence now being severely questioned, a meeting with Manchester City is far from ideal.

Also pushing his way in as a left-field candidate for the Gameweek 7 captaincy is Tottenham’s Son Heung-min (£9.6m).

The South Korean has attacking returns in each of his last two matches while Southampton have conceded 1.5 goals per game so far this season.

They were particularly shaky at the back in their most recent outing where they were beaten 3-1 by Bournemouth.

As already mentioned, the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll is now open and you can vote either below or on the side-bar of the website.

Joe and David have also discussed the destination of their Gameweek 7 armbands on our YouTube channel. You can also watch this below.

Yeah I think I'll eventually downgrade to him. He's looked really good. I was impressed with the Chelsea defence on the whole actually but he did well vs. Salah and in the game before, wonder goal aside. Him and Söyüncü seem to be the best 4.5 rotating cb's in the next 6 weeks...

I want to switch Sterling to Auba and bring in a mid budget midfielder

Trying to decide on a captain, please rank these:

    1. Son
    2. Aguero
    3. Sterling
    4. Mane

or... check the captains poll, which essentially does that for you

Think a lot of people just vote for players they have and who they will captain.

surely the same ownership bias would effect responses to the question in the same way, no?

Casuals are more likely to vote than reply to peoples comments...

knowledge of the crowd and all that, would prefer to have a wider response rate than a handful of people, myself but anyway, gave you my opinion below 🙂 Good luck!

I don't think it does unfortunately. They even tried rephrasing the question from 'who will you captain' to 'who is the best captain this GW'

It is still useful to see pre GW deadline where the majority are likely to be placing their armbands though.

I feel like people pick the player they have rather than the actual best pick

          2
          3
          4
          1

I only own 1 of those players, FWIW

This week I would, I can see spurs scoring a quite few in that game. At home against saints who just lost 3-1 to Bournemouth and will most likely play a full team tonight as playing Portsmouth.

Whoever out of Mahrez, B.Silva, D.Silva and Sterling doesnt play the cup game is fairly nailed on for the weekend, right?

You and I would think so but never that simple apparently. This season it has been pretty simple so i’d Say yes. Wouldn’t recommend any of those except sterling and maybe Dilva to be nailed for a significant run of PL games though

Haha nice one must be good for your confidence. Don’t expect to have a fun time but as long as they’re paying you well and you get a good group of you working a shift retail isn’t all that bad. Best of luck mate x

Yhh, only 4 hour shifts aswell so be r8. Can't complain with 7.80 tbf at my age, thought you meant don't expect a fun time at pool game haha which I don't. And yh, sister works there... Manager on my department said if he can take banter he'll enjoy it so should be gucci. Cheers mate 🙂

Didn’t realise they pay so well considering their practices, fair play. 4 hours is lovely when I was doing retail along with uni I was doing 9 hours 4 days a week ffs was a nightmate. Got bummed basically but got super rich.
Also don’t at all expect a fun time at the pool game unless you salah (c) 😉

      http://www.fplstatistics.co.uk/

Players on +100 likely to rise overnight
Players on -100 likely to drop overnight
