Captain Poll

Gameweek 7 captaincy proving tricky as vote splits across several options

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) has returned to the summit of captain consideration for Gameweek 7.

However, the Liverpool midfielder is far from being the only viable candidate according to the Fantasy Football Scout community.

As things stand, Salah has the support of 28% in our latest poll, ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United.

The Egyptian has averaged 8.3 points per game this season while the Blades have kept just one clean sheet at home in the Premier League.

That said, Salah has, thus far, performed better at Anfield in 2019/20. In front of his own fans, he has produced four goals and one assist, compared to just two assists and no goals away from home.

That may be why there is a handful of alternative options being considered by the community this week.

Despite failing to score against Liverpool, Tammy Abraham (£7.4m) is being strongly considered at this stage, as Chelsea prepare to host Brighton in Gameweek 7.

The centre-forward has found the net seven times this season while Brighton lost their last trip to a top-six side 4-0.

Interestingly, Manchester City players are not currently challenging the very top of the captain poll after the initial spate of voting.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) is currently the most popular of these, backed by 12.9% of voters in the Fantasy Football Scout poll.

That demonstrates an understanding of Pep Guardiola’s rotation techniques, in that the England international’s benching against Watford indicates a sure start when his side travels to face Everton.

However, Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) and Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) are perhaps less secure given that they both played in the 8-0 demolition of Watford.

That may explain why both of them currently have less backing in the captain poll.

Centre-forward Aguero, yet to blank this season, has the support of just 7.1% while de Bruyne, who scored 17 points in Gameweek 6, has been tipped as the best captain option by 4.9%.

Fantasy managers may also be concerned about Everton’s defence perhaps, as they were tipped as one of the more reliable sources of clean sheets over the summer.

This proved to be the case for the first two matches of the campaign as the Toffees kept Crystal Palace out in Gameweek 1 and Watford in Gameweek 2.

But since then, Everton have conceded a minimum of two goals in every game and with their defence now being severely questioned, a meeting with Manchester City is far from ideal.

Also pushing his way in as a left-field candidate for the Gameweek 7 captaincy is Tottenham’s Son Heung-min (£9.6m).

The South Korean has attacking returns in each of his last two matches while Southampton have conceded 1.5 goals per game so far this season.

They were particularly shaky at the back in their most recent outing where they were beaten 3-1 by Bournemouth.

As already mentioned, the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll is now open and you can vote either below or on the side-bar of the website.

Joe and David have also discussed the destination of their Gameweek 7 armbands on our YouTube channel. You can also watch this below.

Dendoncker dropping for any other reason besides form? Is he injured or looking less nailed or anything? Hoping he'll end up a nice cheap 4.4 playing 5th mid option when I eventually wildcard.

Soy/Lundstram rotation works from now. Hanley will get his place back from Amadou if Farke is taking his job seriously. Tomori may well not be playing either soon. If you’re not happy by GW9, upgrade Hanley to the new thing

Stuck to my plan to wildcard GW 7 and here it is:

    Fabianski
    Otamendi TAA Tomori

    Button Rico Lundstram Guendozi

    Wildcards are fun!

    2. bench boost for every gamew…
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 6 months ago

that bench is not good enough to carry you through rotation and injuries. Rico is what fifth choice at Bou? Paying 5 for Fabianski, when Pope for 4.6? That 0.4 can get you a nailed starter for Rico. Not sure, but Sterling silva or KDB and Son? guendozi better be purchased at 4.5 or no reason to buy for more.. that 0.1 could get you 4.5 def for Rico? Cantwell fourth mid will last three games, but that you can deal with later i guess

      1. Dthinger
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I think Rico's nailed with Bournmouth's injuries. Lundstram is the top scoring defender in the game, so not worried about him. Guendozi I could get rid of, but not excited about any other 4.5 mids. The only player on the team even remotely prone to rotation is Silva (maybe Tomori). Fabianksi is easily .4 better than Pope. I'm not selling Sterling. KDB Son is not better than Sterling Silva

        1. bench boost for every gamew…

What´s the point of asking advice if you already made up your mind?

If you think Fabianski 0.4 more than Pope is easily better just wait until Francis and Kelly is back for Bournemouth (which will be soon) and you want a playing defender who could rotate/covers injury/non-shows. If you think a scarcely better keeper and a non playing Rico is easily better than Pope and a nailed playing def at 4.5 that´s completely fine but it won´t be for more than one week at most.
I like your team but since you had so many cap choices i gave an idea how to still get City attack and also Son. Not sure i would be dead certain if the one come is better than the other-).

    Thoughts on this please

    Pope
    Otamendi Soy Lunds
    Mount Salah KDB Sterling Son

Is it though? Im actually getting rid of him! Been having this discussion this evening and currently, without a decent keeper behind him and especially with the upcoming fixtures I just don't think he offers value at 7m. there is at least 5 players currently priced lower in all positions with better points totals so far and i just cant see the CS points rolling in anytime soon to boost his value.

He is best Defender to own imo.
On set peices + way more attacking then any other Defender to contend with + Pool not that bad defensively as we think imo. They have conceded with some impossible goals recently (Newcastle/Chelsea goals were very fortunate)
The thing is, getting them back is way more difficult due to price I'm not on side to bin them.
I believe 7m is cheap for Taa tbh !

huh, your reasoning is they don´t have decent keeper? Adrian is good, not AS good as Alisson. He will be back, and then the CS will come. And it´s not like they are leaky at the back, more circumstances and bad luck. Well. SHU looks like CS, Leicester is more tricky but at Anfiald makes it not unlikely. United WILL be cs the way they play, Spurs home is good for both ends, and then Villa who never really scores beside vs horrible defenses-). City home might be tricky to get cs but City can´t defend set pieces, who is on set pieces? They really don´t have a left back.. And then it´s good until over christmas.

Agreed its a gamble but wouldn't you for that midfield? Plan is to give Sterling 2 more weeks to try and regain some points fro KDB and Kun and if he cant reallocate his millions to rebuild the defence. Or do you think I should just bin him now and if so who for?

Firstly is it a good idea for a hit? (He plays MCI next)

Secondly would you replace him with Aurier, Soyuncu or Tomori?

          That's true.
In my case I got Otamendi for 0.7m cheaper which is f.. awesome imo. It's the emergence of Ota/Soyuncu/Diop turning heads i guess.

Everton suppose to attack and dominate possesion in games like that, whereas vs City they an rather sit back. That suits them better, so judging the result and performances Everton had now is not easy to translate into such a different type of game. City much better home than away, that said they will win-)

I’m holding, Everton until recently had a decent defensive record. Silvas coming under pressure from the fans and will want to tighten up. And Digne does get attacking returns.

I've said it elsewhere here, I've 4 Citeh and Pool players, and I really don't think any of them will get the (C) this weekend.

Dave "Happy" Munday spoke in the video about picking the fixture over the player, and that's what I feel I'm doing.

The Cherries have a fixture that would have been a guaranteed 3 in recent seasons, but West Ham are currently injury-proof almost and have a formidable XI available at all times. I'm not saying the Wilsons won't get some returns, but I can't see Lanzini, Haller, and Yarmelenko failing to get something.

Leicester on the other hand, showing they have game, are at home, facing Newcastle. 3rd plays 17th. That's 3rd on merit plays 17th on merit. Schar seems to have moved his league form over to the international team. The barcodes have no oomph in the final 3rd to speak of. Newcastle, likely unable to go out to play for a draw are going to find themselves facing breaks with Vardy at the arrowhead time and time again, and with that sort of pressure I'm picking a Fox for (C). Maddison I'd love to have, but I'm content with my midfield 5 currently (Sterling, KdB, Ravel, James, Ceballos). Vardy for me. I can see a hattrick haul here.

I sold Pepe a few weeks ago, was bringing in Son or James... picked wrong :/

Son had rotation issues last season, so I think that was what sealed my pick on that occasion. James with some blanks since.

Liverpool away though, and my 2 players are fullbacks. They might get an assist, but I can't see a clean sheet the way the Blades have been going so far. Lundstram might be benched in my XV for GW7, but that's more out of not liking having opposing players in my XI. There's every chance he thumps a screamer from way out, and Adrian is only great with penalties IMO.

Things need to be changed but probably best to do with 2 FTs so I think a reluctant save is what's best barring any midweek injuries or situation changes.

    Pope
    TAA - Diop - Otamendi
    Cantwell - Salah - Mount - Sterling
    Aguero - Barnes - Pukki

    Button - Lundstram - Dendonker - Montoya

    1 FT - 0.4 ITB
