Scoutcast to discuss luck/skill debate and budget defenders

Joe is joined by Az and David for the latest episode of the Scoutcast tonight.

You can watch it on our YouTube channel from 8pm BST to 9pm BST.

This instalment will overlap with some EFL Cup action so we will do our best to bring you live updates from those matches if they have Fantasy Premier League implications.

Some of the key topics for dicussion in episode 302 include the luck vs skill debate as well as budget and premium defenders.

Gameweek 6 was characterised by the benching of Raheem Sterling (£12.1m), a popular captain candidate.

The fact that he did not take to the pitch for Manchester City’s 8-0 win over Watford meant that many vice-captains came into play.

Some of those fell to Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), some to Sadio Mané (£11.6m), while others landed on Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) who scored a whopping 17 points.

Joe, David and Az will fight it out to decree whether or not those who got the Belgian’s haul doubled-up were reaping the rewards of a good decision or simply lucky.

Make sure you let us know your view!

Also, with Lucas Digne (£6.2m) disappointing his owners once again, we continue our debate from last week about the value of premium defenders moving forward.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 6:

You cant bait Kun owners because unlike Sterling owners they arent genuinely worried about a benching 😉

I did say 'pretty much' which makes the rest of the statement fairly pointless, but I'd imagine that -most- Aguero owners aren't worried about a benching this weekend

Why? Does Pep often give in to routine? Or does he pick every line up to suit the game he is approaching. I’d want my best striker playing in CL and give this in form Jesus guy the chance to rip a stubborn Everton apart

Here's where my provisional teams stands. It leaves me with 0FT + £3.5m ITB and I plan to do Son -> Salah gw10.

    Pope
    Trent Zinchenko Soyuncu
    Sterling Son Mount Cantwell
    Aguero Pukki Haller

    Button Kelly Dendoncker Lundstram

    Do I:

    1. Leave Zinchenko in and hope he starts? If not Lundstram most likely comes on.
    2. Kelly -> Tomori (-4) and if Zinchenko doesnt play Cantwell comes on...
    3. Zinchenko -> Otamendi (-4)

Difficult one, so any help would be so much appreciated 🙁

Do people really think Pep is the type of manager to say "this player will only play cup games" or "these players are my B squad" when it comes to attackers and his midfielders??

Sterling, Bernardo, Mahrez, Aguero, Jesus. Pick any combination of the three and they can play any match during this season. Same applies for Rodri, Gundogan, Dilva, KDB.

Sometimes, Sterling will be benched. Sometimes Aguero will be benched. Only Pep knows when. Good luck trying to predict a pattern

ATM sure, after one champions league game...

Not talking FPL terms, just simple football terms, Pep is not going to manage his squad saying Aguero will not be the main striker for UCL and cup games, and Jesus will not be the main striker for prem games.

Ditto for sterling and mahrez and bernardo

Just review the history it’s what happened LY. Not to say small niggles / injury won’t change it but if you were asked to predict the next two games I think you’d go with Aguero vs Everton and Jesus vs Zagreb.

    REPOST

Here's where my provisional teams stands. It leaves me with 0FT + £3.5m ITB and I plan to do Son -> Salah gw10.

    Pope
    Trent Zinchenko Soyuncu
    Sterling Son Mount Cantwell
    Aguero Pukki Haller

    Button Kelly Dendoncker Lundstram

    Do I:

    1. Leave Zinchenko in and hope he starts? If not Lundstram most likely comes on.
    2. Kelly -> Tomori (-4) and if Zinchenko doesnt play Cantwell comes on...
    3. Zinchenko -> Otamendi (-4)

Difficult one, so any help would be so much appreciated

Callum Chambers is banging that drum to be starting. Super sub goal and now an assist.

It is the newbies that often talk the biggest nonsense from a position of self belief.
