Scoutcast to discuss luck/skill debate and budget defenders

Joe is joined by Az and David for the latest episode of the Scoutcast tonight.

You can watch it on our YouTube channel from 8pm BST to 9pm BST.

This instalment will overlap with some EFL Cup action so we will do our best to bring you live updates from those matches if they have Fantasy Premier League implications.

Some of the key topics for dicussion in episode 302 include the luck vs skill debate as well as budget and premium defenders.

Gameweek 6 was characterised by the benching of Raheem Sterling (£12.1m), a popular captain candidate.

The fact that he did not take to the pitch for Manchester City’s 8-0 win over Watford meant that many vice-captains came into play.

Some of those fell to Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), some to Sadio Mané (£11.6m), while others landed on Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) who scored a whopping 17 points.

Joe, David and Az will fight it out to decree whether or not those who got the Belgian’s haul doubled-up were reaping the rewards of a good decision or simply lucky.

Make sure you let us know your view!

Also, with Lucas Digne (£6.2m) disappointing his owners once again, we continue our debate from last week about the value of premium defenders moving forward.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 6:

Season ticker recommends Norwich over Man City clean sheets over the next 6 weeks.
    SERIOUSLY?

      ‘Easier’ defensive fixtures.

Every defensive game for Norwich & Arsenal would be red if they represented that.

Yes. Saying "Man City are second and Norwich are fifth..." when looking at the next 5 and NOT 6 weeks is a sign of low IQ.

What's my mistake? I just watched Dave on the scoutcast show this info.
            Next six GWs is
            Chelsea
            W Ham
            Norwich
            Arsenal
            Burnley
            City

            Are you sure?

            So:
            Sort by difficulty
            Select Defense
Press Plus to add a GW
(You know it defaults to five right?)

Did you listen to what David said?

This is still fixture difficulty but anyhoo your comment to Epic Fail was just plain out of order, that was my point.

          It was quite factual

    5. Karhumies

It measures accumulated opposition toughness. No consideration is given to how good the team itself is in defending. In other words, Norwich faces easier opposition than MCity over that time period as an objective measure. Not as a relative measure compared to their own defense.

      1. FrankieTheGent
        • 9 Years

        So it's useless ?

        1. Karhumies
          • 11 Years
          4 years, 6 months ago

Far from useless. It's great for what it actually does.

If you want relative CS odds rather than objective opposition strength, have a look at what the bookies offer. Problem is, any player getting injured, red carded or returning from injury will immediately affect the relative CS odds.

That's not how to read it. The tool is useful for answering the question "Given that I want to invest in team X attack/defense, is now a good timing based on the fixtures or should I wait for better fixtures?" The team at the top has the easiest fixtures, which has nothing to do with which team currently has the best defense.

I think the difference is you're opening question. I think it's used (maybe mistakenly but I would suggest by most) as: I want to buy a defender, who has the best fixtures. This usage is certainly implied by the scoutcast.

I was a bit sick in my mouth when I saw Leno.
