Scoutcast to discuss luck/skill debate and budget defenders

Joe is joined by Az and David for the latest episode of the Scoutcast tonight.

You can watch it on our YouTube channel from 8pm BST to 9pm BST.

This instalment will overlap with some EFL Cup action so we will do our best to bring you live updates from those matches if they have Fantasy Premier League implications.

Some of the key topics for dicussion in episode 302 include the luck vs skill debate as well as budget and premium defenders.

Gameweek 6 was characterised by the benching of Raheem Sterling (£12.1m), a popular captain candidate.

The fact that he did not take to the pitch for Manchester City’s 8-0 win over Watford meant that many vice-captains came into play.

Some of those fell to Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), some to Sadio Mané (£11.6m), while others landed on Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) who scored a whopping 17 points.

Joe, David and Az will fight it out to decree whether or not those who got the Belgian’s haul doubled-up were reaping the rewards of a good decision or simply lucky.

Make sure you let us know your view!

Also, with Lucas Digne (£6.2m) disappointing his owners once again, we continue our debate from last week about the value of premium defenders moving forward.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 6:

    Options

    A) Play one of Digne (MCI), Lundstram (LIV) or Montoya (che)
    B) Any defender up to 6.3 for a -4 - perhaps Alonso, PVA or Aurier.

I brought in Aurier for Digne but want to swap out AMN ... got 6.3M available

Just seems worth punting on Alonso for a couple of weeks and if it's not working I will swap him for Pereira
Leicester haven't been keeping clean sheets either

I think at 4.5 with those fixtures they have just as well of a chance at clean sheets as any other option. They've massively underperformed their ability and need to sort out their terrible set piece weakness, but odds are they definitely improve as they settle and get players back from injury.

Aurier wasnt even there I dont think, Kane not either and Son only came on at 66 with Eriksen.
Was Spurs B team, little teams always play their hearts out in these comps, its their only chance of getting in the spotlight.

That result means nothing other than one less pointless competition to worry about

    3. Rainer

Spurs pretty much played their 3rd team with Aurier rested and not even on the bench, they actually didn't concede a single shot on target in the 90' anyway and had 75% possession overall too, should of scored anyway admittedly but there you go!! TAA is a must have on WC though but i'd try keep both Son & Aurier if you can somehow?

Curious feeling to have Robbo as a semi differential at under 20%. Outpointing TAA for 2 weeks on the trot doesn’t make him feel an absolutely terrible hold right now.

This is worth seeing. Especially for those saying Arsenal had a better defence than usual out today. Doesn’t make a difference to an incompetent manager.

    Aguero Pukki

    Button Kelly Lundstram Greenwood

Would be worried if Abraham continues his pre Liverpool match form, so A the safer option.

Ryan is out for me this week as I have a free transfer to burn. Coleman is likely to get booted this week as well with my second transfer.

Fabianski and Tomori to come in looks pretty decent ya?

Pope is a strong contender for me. It's likely a short-mid term pick until I inevitably have to wildcard. Liverpool game puts me off Soyuncu a bit and heir form isn't good enough for me to ignore that game.

Yep, Tomori only going to rise in the next few weeks. Leading by example for us at the back.

What would you do with this lot? Got 2 ft’s and nothing in the bank

    Pope / Button
    TAA / Lowton / Lunds / Hanley / Kelly
    Salah / KDB / Sterling / Mount / Cantwell
    Kun / Pukki / Wickham

A - Wickham, Sterling and Mount > Tammy, Son and McGinn for -4
B - Wickham and TAA > Tammy and Rico for free
    C - Wickham > Greenwood and bank a ft
    D - Something else

    Thanks

I would be looking to upgrade one of Hanley or Kelly to a playing option over the next week or two which for me means perhaps downgrading one of cantwell or pukki depending on how long you've owned them. Wouldn't want to lose mount or TAA anytime soon, so C looks most appealling
