Scoutcast Episode 302 – Rollercoaster

This rollercoaster of a season continues. There were some dramatic highs and lows in Gameweek 6 and plenty more predicted for the weeks ahead.

Those that captained the non-playing Raheem Sterling and vice-captained the hauling Kevin De Bruyne last weekend certainly experienced the ups and downs of Fantasy management.

This week’s crew of Joe, David and Az wonder whether such decisions are down to luck or skill as they look in detail at this season’s evolving captaincy tactics.

The tale of three Fantasy managers – FPL Chef, deputy editor Neale and Scoutcaster Andy – take centre stage in the Scoutcast’s Rough with the Smooth round-up. The highs and lows of playing the game could not be any starker for this trio, who saw their FPL teams hacked, removed, then eventually returned this week.

Elsewhere, patience is running thin with Everton’s Lucas Digne and the crew reveal their strategies for tackling Chelsea and Leicester’s forthcoming favourable fixture run.

A legend of FPL in recent years is Az’s latest differential pick. Considering his last selection was Norwich striker Teemu Pukki, he has set the bar high already.

Clean sheets over the next six Gameweeks, the West Ham defence, a few pots of jam and Az’s aunt, or is it uncle, also make an appearance.

    Worth playing mount over cantwell for a -4 hit this week?

      Hmmm that's a tight one. I will say yes given Norwich's poor away record and palaces defensive solidity.

        Cheers. Seems risky that mount basically has to score and cantwelll doesn't to cover the -4

          Yeah it's a risk but that's FPL. I say go for it. Mount has been a pretty consistent performer. Cantwell has been a consistent performer too but only at home.

    Finally a decent score after a really slow start. Jumped 1 million places last week (OVR is around 1m mark).

    Can I get a brutal as possible rating on my team?

    Pope
    TAA - VVD - Pieters - Guilbert
    Sterling - KDB - Son - Nelson
    Kun - Barnes

    Subs: Button - Greenwood - Lundstram - Dendoncker

    Thanks!

    I wish Trossard was fit OMG there are no good options under 6.3m and I am stuck with Dan James. Someone suggest something you can even go all the way down to ~ 5m if you like I won’t be upset. Got an eye on Cleverley you see

        Was desperate to do a double move with James and Dilva to get in your boy Maddison and Mount. Can’t afford James > Mount alone so annoyed. Might get Tielemans and Mount perhaps. Or someone 7.3m or below but not sure. A punt on Fraser is super tempting

          Say it quietly, but Perez will soon be worth the punt imo. Improving performances for Leicester, and the 4-3-1-2 has seen more action here and there which is promising for him.

            I was really thinking of this. A nice assist yesterday and an early subbing has me ripe to get on him at 6.1m ffs. Nice to hear a Leicester fan say it lol x

                I have literally nothing else to do to my team so 🙂 if it doesn’t pay off I can fall on cantwell who I will play GW8 anyway even if i got Maddison. You’re tempting me into a Perez (C) 😉

              Took a couple games to get back into form, but was as imperious as most of last season against Spurs. Will definitely get big attacking points. Also solid defensive performances so far thankfully

                6m for a defender relying on attacking points is no good but checked their defensive stats and they look good, just haven't had the chance for an eye test. Really tempted to bring him in this week.

        I’d prefer him on the left with martial on top because he makes sexy runs which create a lot of space. James vs Chambers on the wing will be tasty too potentially but I have 2 FTs and no idea what to do with them

      I don't think it's a good idea. I mean, not only are you hoping for an Abraham haul, you're also hoping the big hitters blank or score low. Unlikely given Salah plays shu and Kun/Sterling are against WOL who are struggling in the league.

    I will be keeping tabs on Bernardo Silva over the next 2 GW's.

      Misses out this GW after 90 vs Preston. Mahrez, Sterling and Dilva all got managed minutes.

    Clearly Brighton or Villa will be out of the league cup tonight, but if another premier league team gets knocked out who do think hope or think it will be and why?

      I think you can ride B for a while. Pope has decent fixtures so you shouldn't need to use Gunn

      Value Smalue.

      I lost 0.2 on Bilva
      But he scored 29 points in last 3 weeks

      Yes in the run in or 2nd Wildcard its useful to get better assets

    Current team:
    Pope - Button
    Ota - van Dijk - KWP - Mings - Lundstram
    Sterling - Mané - Mount - KdB - Cantwell
    Pukki - Kane - Greenwood

    0.1 ITB, 1 FT.

    Sensible move being KWP --> Soy

    Or should I look somewhere else? Not afraid of taking a hit, if the moves are right!

    will be overseas this weekend.

    g2g, especially bench order in case Zinchenko or whomever doesn't play.

    Pope
    Robbo, Zinchenko, Tomori
    Salah, KDB (vc), Raz (c), Mount
    Tammy, Pukki, Barnes

    Button, Rico, Cantwell, Lunds

      Zinchenko will be back starting this weekend and bench is good to go but I’d say that as that’s my exact bench order (all 4) as are 7 starters:
      Robbo -> Aurier
      Zinchenko -> Ward
      Sterling -> Son
      Barnes -> Aguero

        Ward was Zinchenko before GW6 Wildcard will become Soyuncu for GW9

    Is Digne to TAA silly if I already have Robertson? Sort of like the idea of being able to choose which one to ditch later

      TAA will outscore Digne. There probably wont be an obvious point where you can easily decide TAA or robbo. Having both is a good punt but costs a bit

      Digne to Otamendi or Soyuncu might be better

      Then upgrade Robbo to TAA

      TAA will probably get rested during October but then again won’t most players playing international, European and domestic football.

    After Sterling playing most of the game last night I'm now considering the following for a -4:

    Sterling, Digne, Haller -> Son, Soyuncu, Aguero

    Worth it?

      Absolutely, providing you don’t feel silly after GW7 if Aguero and co score 6 points and Sterling and co score 20.
