The FPL line-up lessons we learned from Gameweek 6

We take our regular look back at the Premier League line-ups from the weekend just gone, analysing the systems and personnel used by the 20 top-flight clubs and seeing what lessons could be learned ahead of Gameweek 7.

As was the case last week, we are harnessing the use of the average position maps in our Members’ Area and highlighting some of the key stats from each game.

The figures in brackets given after each player name in the article below correspond to the numbered shirts in the position maps.

Members can read on for further analysis, while those wishing to subscribe can still do so by clicking here – memberships cost the equivalent of £2.19 a month for the remainder of 2019/20 and a video of the benefits can be accessed here.

    Pope (Button)
    TAA Otamendi Soy (Lundstram Rico)
    Mane* Sterling(c) KDB Mount (Cantwell)
    Pukki Abraham C.Wilson

    GTG?

Only real concern here is Mane but the bench is strong enough to cover for a week out if needed.

I think I'd go C. I think Trent's worth the small premium over Robertson unless he starts getting rotated. I do have a soft spot for Jota though.

Pretty settled on cheap at the back. Thoughts on current WC?

    Pope - (Button)
    Soy - Tomori - Aurier - (Lund - Rico)
    Salah(c) - KDB - Son - McGinn - (Cantwell)
    Aguero - Tammy - Pukki

0.7itb. McGinn likely to become McNeil. OR Mount if Cantwell goes to a 4.5.

if no one wants Digne anymore because of his lack of clean sheet prospects, even with his attacking threat, why is TAA a must? Similar cases no?

    1. tucaoneo
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 6 months ago

Because TAA's teammates actually can score from those crosses?

      1. F4L
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 6 months ago

points from attacking returns last year were similar. Admittedly this year so far TAA has been superior, but he does 1 mil more than TAA for a reason

    2. SC not pearls before swine
      • 13 Years
      4 years, 6 months ago

I tend to think Liverpool's clean sheet prospects will turn around. They haven't conceded more than 1 goal in a game and Alisson will be back soon. I'm less confident in Everton although I do think Digne's still a solid option.

      1. F4L
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 6 months ago

I would be, but Adrian has been on top form since the Southampton game, and they're still conceding. This new high defensive line seems to be allowing them to concede far more chances than I ever remember them conceding last year.

Maybe Klopp is prioritising scoring goals this year over defensive solidity? Im not sure

    3. COYS Down Under
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 9 Years
      4 years, 6 months ago

Because Pool look more likely to keep clean sheets and their attacking ceiling as a team is higher meaning TAA is overall more likely to score attacking returns than Digne.

      1. F4L
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 6 months ago

sure i'd agree with both those points, and their respective prices reflective that; its just more of a question that the logic in dropping Digne could be applied to justify dropping TAA as well.

        1. pingissimus
          • 5 Years
          4 years, 6 months ago

It's a fair point - especially given the reddish run of fixtures Liverpool have for defence coming up.

I made the move as I positively wanted City defence. I can quite see myself getting Digne back quite soon when I make my next defensive move

Think TAA is "protected" by being the most expensive player in the game and the one template defender left.

        2. Pumpkinhead
          • 9 Years
          4 years, 6 months ago

I've already dropped both. You pick defenders for their clean sheets and then their attacking returns.

    4. Cahill17
      • 4 Years
      4 years, 6 months ago

I also think it due to many managers changing their formation to only have 3 at the back. It's a lot easier to have 3 at the back if you only have 2 5.5+ def and 3 5.0- defs that you can rotate between. If you have three 5.5+ defs you get rotation headache with the other two defs. Currently, TTA/robb and Otm are the two 5.5+ to go for. Since Everton have had poor start the season and they have Man city next, he is the easy option to drop.

Are you a Chelsea fan? Is Abraham nailed, or does Bats represent real competition for his place? i'm slightly hesitant to bringing Tammy in just in-case he's just 2 bad performances away from being dropped.

he's a youngster who's on a hot streak. Not proven at this level whatsoever. Just playing devils advocate, Bats has been performing at the top level for much longer.

neat, to be honest Frank doesn't strike me as the kind of manager not to give players time to prove themselves.

In that case i'd say taking a hit for Tammy makes sense given the fixtures, i'm strongly considering bringing him in as well. Damm price rises making it harder to ignore him as well with every week that passes.

          1. Tabbara
            • 7 Years
            4 years, 6 months ago

you are right also looking at chelsea fixtures the move even for a hit is decent for long term. Also could see goals in that game. We tend to conced two goals per game so we expect to score a lot of goals to win matches so i think it is a good move

    3. pingissimus
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 6 months ago

      Think so

I was all set on holding for one more until I had a closer look at heat maps and stats. Haller is linking up play nicely but he really isn't getting into the box much and firing off shots. Tammy is over performing of course but he's right in the thick of action in the box

Worth a hit? May not happen this week but given a run of 4/5 I'd say so almost certainly. Frees up a transfer next week too of course 😉

(Minor regret I didn't go for Vardy instead but he can wait until 9)

It seems like there is more bandwagons early on this year which is causes more rises on a small number of players.

It is always pretty volatile in the early stages of the season and with some players showing great value for money it is only adding more fuel to the fire.

It should start to settle down from now on i think though.

Might not be a bad shout actually, just read that apparently pep said before match that he was rested due to rotation l, which may mean he plays next game. It's a risk and I do want to move him on as I think otamendi has better attacking threat but perhaps that move could wait a week

In hindsight it may be a mistake but Burnley have the fixtures now and Pope's ownership amongst the big guns is very high.

Your 7th of the front seven seems to be where you'd want to upgrade.
Could attempt a 4-4-2 based on funds. I'd like Pereira but less so with a Soyuncu double-up. Dendoncker to Westwood?
If you'd like to just do ANYTHING to make the team a bit more profitable, could try your luck with Kanye and see if Lampard does something with him we couldn't precisely predict, amongst a good fixture.

      An alternative is;

      Sterling, Abraham, Greenwood

      B. Coin flip between Auba/Kane. I feel like Kane will get a hatty soon

Cheers Viper. Just a bummer since I have to play him with Dunk/Lund as my only backup. Btw, I had enough itb to do a straight swap of Wickham to Abraham. Thanks for the tip earlier in the week.

        TAA | Digne | Otamendi
        Sterling | Mane | KDB | Mount
        Abraham | Pukki | Barnes

Na man. It depends how you want to view it. Digne has a good chance of 0 or negative points this week. Chelsea have a much better chance at a CS. The Tomori money will enable me to upgrade Barnes next week. Also, Everton aren't the same defensively after Gueye left this summer for PSG.

it doesnt depend how you want to view it. alonso not likely to outscore digne by 4pts. digne has better fixture than alonso next week, at which point you can transfer barnes (or whoever) for free

No, i'd have to take a hit next week in order to upgrade Barnes since i have 0.0itb and 0ft left this week.

I am considering Maitland - Niles to Aurier (question 1).

If I make a decision, will I choose Aurier over Digne (question 2).

Glad I caused a few people to smile... 😉

      Thanks guys.

Aubameyang or Kane but allows me to get greenwood > Abraham

Abraham pretty certain to outscore Greenwood unless he gets some starts 😉

I've gone Auba over Agüero as I've got KDB and Sterling already.
