Scoutcast Episode 303 – Template Busting

Are we witnessing the end of the early-season template?

Liverpool have daunting fixtures and alternative captaincy shouts are emerging each week.

Meanwhile, Manchester City assets still look strong, but are beset with injury and rotation fears.

Could it be time to turn our attention away from the North-West of England for our premium picks and towards the East Midlands and North London?

In this latest Scoutcast episode, Joe is joined by Karam and Who Got The Assist’s Tom to look back on Gameweek 7 and ahead to Gameweek 8 and beyond.

Topping the bill is the crew’s attempt to assess which premium-priced and captainable assets to target and which to consider ditching.

By happy coincidence, Karam is on the verge of Wildcarding and gives a sneak preview of his ambitious plans as the second international break of the season approaches.

The ascent of Riyad Mahrez gets an airing as does a stock check on the promoted teams. It looks like Fantasy managers may have to look elsewhere for whipping boys, with the three top-flight newcomers all exhibiting considerable promise.

Tom takes his turn to select a differential, the best clean prospects are examined and a Trainspotting analogy also features in this packed 80-minute episode.

Have Douglas Luiz + 1,6M to burn. Rest of the midfield is Salah/KdB/Sterling/Cantwell.

McGinn is an obvious choice, but fixtures aren't too great after the IB.
CHO is a punt I'm willing to take.
      Then there's Yarmolenko...

Thinking about radical move which would cost me 8 points but with zero funds so I need to do it early in case of price changes. KdB to Saka, Greenwood to Aubameyang, Barnes to Wood. The alternatives are not as exciting - KdB to Mahrez (or perhaps David Silva) and Greenwood to King - cost 4 points. The latter leaves me with 3 mid price strikers and no chance of getting a big hitter if things go pear-shaped and salivating with Aubmayang fixtures and the ability to easily switch to Vardy or Kane in future. Opinions please?

    1. Energetics
      • 9 Years

      Do not like at all.

Until confirmed how long he will be out would not rush to replace KDB. Best value in the game.

      Saka place not secure.

      Barnes to Woods extremely sideways.

Energetics - I accept your points and obviously huge risk - however rationale would follow... KdB I do not think will play this weekend and yes he will be back after the break. Aubam gives me total flexibility. I will have time to downgrade Digne or Zinchenko (the latter will play this weekend but I'm unsure about how the rotation will affect his games after the break). Bringing back KdB can wait a couple of weeks anyway so I can make plans accordingly.

No. Hold to KDB unless you have zero value in him and can switch back and forth easily. He will likely be back after IB so will only miss 1 game.

The question is whether over the next 8 game weeks will Aubam score more than KdB? I think he will and if I can cover midfield with sterling and possibly David Silva that's not a bad move?

I think if KDB is out for one game then he could easily outscore Auba. If its more the advantage is obviously with Auba. It goes back to team value. I am not taking him out yet as I have had KDB from week 1.

Who outscores who this game week: A) Salah or B) Sterling? They are both at home. Sterling has the slightly better form going into this game which is why I am considering the move but Salah can bite you in the ass (happened to me last season).

Last few weeks i’ve Noticed it’s closer to a 4231 for pep, with either Dilva or KDB (when Dilva doesn’t start) occupying the 10 role. Bilva can also play here and has done from the bench recently.
This means pep would typically want 2 CDMs, one creative, like Gundogan/KDB and one destroyer, Rodri/Fernandinho. Leaving a line up like this:

    Jesus
    Sterling Dilva Bilva
    Rodri Gundo

Is this tactic going to stick even vs a “hard-to-break-down” 532 or will he revert to the all out 433 with Gundogan at the base allowing for all his fit attacking talent to start like this:

    Sterling Jesus Mahrez
    Dilva Gundo Bilva

4231 hasn’t been all that successful last couple and needed late breakthroughs both times. What do you think?

Salah, Kun & Pepe to Sterling, Auba & Son? This allows me to do Haller to Vardy next week!

Who's ditching Salah, and who's hanging on for now? What's your reasoning either way?

I'm tempted to go downgrade him if I WC over IB, and get Auba, Vardy in - but it's obviously very risky. Would only have Trent from Liverpool then, and I remember last season selling him and he went on a scoring spree.

fear of missing out and his ownership over 40% is very scary not owning

I am on this thought pattern and also concerned about the risk.

I ditched Sterling last week to accommodate Son & Vardy. I am thinking of doing Salah to Sterling this game week. Then either bringing in Mane around GW13 (if continuing with 3 up top) or bringing Salah back GW17 (moving to a 5 midfield) depending on what happens.

Are Salah owners getting rid after GW8, im suffering from massive FOMO (fear if missing out). Making me question whether getting rid is the right move.

It was January 2019, that Sergio last found himself starting a match at Etihad on the bench.

Think he will. Willing to take the chance. But need sterling as pretty sure he will start and could easily get a big haul.

    * sure they are modest returns but you need players who return like that in your team. Like TAA, Auba, Wilson, Mount the reliable ones who can carry your team through rough gameweeks. For this same reason I dont think Auba is greta captain material, sure he will get you soemthing but its most likely not going to be a double figure haul. When you compare Auba to the likes of Mane, Salah maybe even Sterling he seems like a viable relialble replacements to me for cheaper as well. You jsut have to find someone else to stick the armband on, so if you dicthed liverpool for auba then captain sterling or kun or whatever.
    Just feels sensible

yea but Watford are atrocious, the Cherries are bad at the back but not that bad. Auba could get a brace, or an assist and a goal, but idk I just dont see him getting a hatti anytime soon.

Wait for some comments in the presser to see if we get any suggestion of starters. (I'm in the same situation and may be forced to make moves for a decent captain option)

    Heaton TAA Otamendi Lundstram
    KDB Son Mahrez Yarmolenko
    Auba(C) Vardy Tammy

    Button Rico Aurier Hayden

    1ft,0.1itb

Was thinking of rolling the ft but with kdb possibly out, I'm thinking of replacing Aurier.
