Scout Picks

Gameweek 8 Scout Picks retains faith in Salah

We have kept faith in two of Liverpool’s most attacking players for the Gameweek 8 Scout Picks.

The visit of Leicester to Anfield has concerned some invested in Jurgen Klopp’s men but are still expecting a positive result.

The Scout Picks has been carefully put together using David, Neale, Paul and Geoff’s Scout Squad submissions from earlier in the week.

For this weekend we line up in a 4-3-3 formation and come in £0.5m under our budget of £83.0m.

Goalkeeper

Nick Pope has a favourable fixture this week as well as good form at home in 2019/20

Nick Pope (£4.6m) was a simple inclusion in the Scout Picks this week ahead of Burnley’s meeting with Everton at Turf Moor. The Clarets have already kept two clean sheets at home this season, against Southampton and Norwich, while Marco Silva’s men have found the net just once in three road trips. Meanwhile, Pope is currently fifth in the league for saves (24).

Defenders

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been a regular inclusion in the Scout Picks this season

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) remains a favourite of the Scout Squad panel, chosen as the best option in defence by three of them this week. Liverpool may not have kept a Premier League clean sheet at Anfield this season but they have conceded the fewest big chances of any side in the last four matches. Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold remains the top defender for chances created in that period, fashioning eight more than any other player in his position.

Nicolas Otamendi (£5.5m) continues to be the most nailed-on Manchester City defender, which should see him do well against Wolves this weekend. The visitors had another exerting Europa League encounter on Thursday night and had to play nine of the players who beat Watford in Gameweek 7. That is far from the ideal preparation for a trip to the Etihad Stadium when Wolves have had troubles in front of goal this season. Only four teams have scored fewer goals than them on the road in 2019/20, while Manchester City have conceded the fewest number of shots in the last four matches.

Matt Lowton (£4.5m) joins the Scout Picks as part of a Burnley defensive double-up. We’ve already covered the Clarets’ clean sheet potential in Gameweek 8, why it’s the right-back getting the nod is his creativity. Erik Pieters may have more assists of any other Burnley defender this season but Lowton has created more chances than any other colleague bar Ashley Westwood.

Despite graduating from the £4.0m bracket, John Lundstram (£4.5m) can still offer plenty of value in Gameweek 8. Watford remain in the bottom three for big chances this season while Sheffield United kept a clean sheet on their last away trip. Meanwhile, Lundstram continues to be a creative force for the Blades, only four players in the whole league fashioning more big chances than him in the first seven matches.

Midfielders

Salah has been reliable in home matches in all competitions this season

The Scout Squad have retained faith in Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), even ahead of a tricky meeting with Leicester City. The Foxes defence has been in good shape in recent weeks but Salah has done very well at Anfield this season. Every Premier League match there in 2019/20 has seen him produce attacking returns and if we factor in the latest Champions League outing, he has six goals in all competitions in front of his own fans this season.

A midweek rest for Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) should put him in a good place for the visit of Wolves to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Not only did the midfielder get most of the Dinamo Zagreb off, he also provided a goal and assist when he took to the pitch as a substitute. As already mentioned, Wolves have not had the best preparation for this trip and have conceded in each of their last two away matches. Gameweek 8 was another one in which we also like the prospects of Aguero but we could not quite squeeze him and Sterling into the line-up, the latter definitely a much more likely starter this weekend.

Two goals in two for John McGinn (£5.8m) has firmly placed the Aston Villa midfielder on the Fantasy radar once again. So far this season, only two players have registered more shots on target than McGinn, which bodes well for a trip to Norwich this weekend. The Canaries have conceded 15 goals in the first seven matches, only Watford have shipped more, and are yet to keep a clean sheet at Carrow Road in 2019/20.

Forwards

Fresh from a midweek rest, Aubameyang is back in the Scout Picks once again

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) is still yet to blank this season so it is hard to see his scoring run ending in a home match against Bournemouth. The Cherries have conceded five times in their three away matches this season and have historically struggled at the Emirates Stadium.

Tammy Abraham (£7.6m) looks in a good place to reward his owners’ patience in Gameweek 8. In the last four matches, he is behind only Aguero for shots in the box and tops the league for efforts on target. A continuation of that trend at a Southampton side without a clean sheet at home this season should see Abraham do well.

Gameweek 8 should be the week that Teemu Pukki (£7.2m) returns to the Fantasy conversation. While Norwich have struggled on the road this season, they have been full of goals at Carrow Road. Pukki himself has averaged 13.3 points per game there in 2019/20 while Aston Villa have conceded seven goals across their three away matches so far.

Substitutes

Given that we fancy Sheffield United’s clean sheet chances this weekend, it makes sense to include Dean Henderson (£4.5m) on the bench. He was selected by three of our Scout Squad panel.

Harry Maguire (£5.5m) came close to making it into the final XI based on Newcastle’s problems in front of goal this season. Ahead of hosting Manchester United, the Magpies are yet to score more than once in a match this season and have blanked twice at home already.

John Fleck (£4.8m) could be a tidy differential for anyone looking to capitalise on Sheffield United’s favourable trip to Watford. He is joint-top among his colleagues for chances created over the last four matches and is second for shots inside the box.

As we discovered earlier this week, Chris Wood (£6.2m) stands a good chance of continuing his scoring run when Everton come to Turf Moor. In the last four Gameweeks, only three players have been afforded more big chances than the Burnley striker.

The Captain

The Scout Picks now has a captain for the 2019/20 campaign.

This skipper is chosen using the conclusions of the latest Captain Sensible article and a four-way vote between David, Neale, Paul and Geoff.

Because the use of Fantasy Football Scout data is used so heavily in this process, the captain we choose each Gameweek will be known only to those who have signed up to Membership for the 2019/20 season.

It will be revealed to the public only when the deadline for the Gameweek has passed.

Community Champion

Representing the community against the Scout Picks in Gameweek 8 is Vobinho in Wengerland.

They have gone for a 3-4-3 of Dúbravka; Holebas, Schär, Alonso; Zaha, D Silva, Willian, Saka; Firmino, Aguero (c), Kane.

The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

It was a win for the Community Champion in Gameweek 7 as The Greenback Boogie won by a close 54-52 scoreline.

irfansheikh‘s winning margin of 16 points from Gameweek 7 is the latest score to beat for the 2019/20 season.

    KDB to?
    Already got salah and sterling.
Son seems to be the popular choice but city fixtures look too good not to double up on city mids

    Kun > Auba

    A. Salah > Sterling -4
    B. KDB > Mahrez -4

    Front 8:
    Salah KDB Son Cantwell Guendouzi

      Is this a question?

I’d be planning on KDB out for a few GW potentially, and then eased back in.

    Pope button
    TAA Ota Soy Rico Lundstrum
    Salah Sterling Son Kdb cantwell
    Tammy pukki 4.4

This is my current team. Very worried about Rico playing if cantwell and KDB are out. I think I need to upgrade my 4.4 forward.

Was already planning to get rid of salah next week, so I'll just move that decision up a week.

Salah and 4.4 out for a hit....but for which of these?

    Vardy and Mount?
Auba and Saka? (Or mcginn, or guendouzi)

Yes Saka is a risk, but the plan will be to get salah back around week 13, so Saka doesn't have to plan for long. Vardy and mount is safer, but less of a captains option.

Also.....should I just save the transfer? Feels like a bad week, coming up.

Ofc his output isn’t as good as we’d want but still gets in great positions, is deadly finisher and selfish so that’s all great for FPL lol on top of that he’s on some corners, Fk’s and pens!
Wouldn’t be selling him for a hit at home tbh. Maybeeeeee next week if any is the time to sell (if there is one)for a few weeks imo

The only reason to go this week is being worried about enough starters. Rico really is terribly to start with how well arsenal are scoring. Hard to really hope for an assist. And if I'm going to sell salah anyway, I may as well sell now and get another starter for the week, right?

Leicester are playing very well and have great upcoming fixtures after liverpool game. soyuncu and vardy would be in my team if i'm on WC.
Westham are not that goid defensively and roberto isn't Fabianski so no saves/baps points.
Jorginho to 4.5 and rico to tomori/Soyuncu.
      Any KDB plan ?

Not sure about the keeper picks. Roberto isn't worth it at 4.4 even if he's starting. Much better value out there for .1 more or just Pope at 4.6

Really unpopular opinion and I own Mount myself, but I think Mount isn’t as good a player as it’s been hyped here on FPL. Both are good shouts nonetheless. Yarmo, Madison or even Pepe could be good differential over the next one month

He gets into imp positions and amazing fpl wise which is the crux. Example Felipe is world class but not good enough fplwise. At the end what matters is they will score points in fpl or not.

Last week's Wildcard was a horror show, but I'm optimistic about this week! Front six is looking good:

    Salah Sterling(c) Dilva
    Auba Pukki Abraham

    Back five a little risky:
    Leno
    Tomori, TAA, Otamendi, Lundstram

    Bench seems safe:
    Button Cantwell Guendo Rico

The games were against Norwich, Arsenal and Newcastle to be fair, Leicester are better defensively, but i still think he’ll do well, just how much i don’t know.

            The main issue is Aguero.
If he plays then Sterling has less chances of scoring

Yeah this as well, no idea why Aguero eats into Sterlings output so damn much, if anything we could of thought it would only compliment it.

Now what gets me is who decided it was a racial joke. It is clear Bernardo and Benjamin didn't think it was.
I abhor racism but the situation has got ridiculous.

                                Society has gone crazy.
I believe racism is something created by the continuous advertising of protection.
In South Africa you cannot be racist if you are black; yet xenophobia is rampant.

It happens all time and it was happening all time, we don't need Twitter for this.

It's a fine line between joking and bullying, some kids aren't strong enough to hit back and they suck it inside them.

Donald Duck doesn't have a famous connotation to ugly white stereotypes.. but that Conguitos image has sketchy history.

no one should be persecuted but definitely a bit of a warning is warranted imho.

Their is a code of conduct in the rules that Bernardo Silva broke. Shame. If it was just two non famous friends then I don’t think we’d be talking about it. Bernardo will learn and not repeat. He’ll keep his banter private with his friend.

I think we all know they are really good friends and it was banter but if there are written code of conduct players (after all they are popular , high profile, highly paid public role models / figures (however you want to word it) then they must adhere.

Sadly their are narrow minded people out there who’d read that and think it was then acceptable to do that to strangers

Bernardo has a responsibility. He is in the public eye and more importantly, under scrutiny from his boss, his club, and a host of association boards. That means he can’t just do whatever he wants.

Did he intent to be racist? No
                              Are some people offended? Yes
                              Was he stupid? Yes
Does he deserve to be punished? Not up to us.

Anyone with even a cursory understanding of racist caricatures can tell that the Conguitos logo is bad. The monkey-like body, the bulging eyes, the exaggeratedly big and round and ruby-red lips—just absolutely textbook racismo going on there.

I can see where you’re coming from with this. Robertson’s Jam changed their logo in 2001 I think as it was causing offence however I still don’t think bernanrdo or Milner had racist intents.

“The iconography of blackface dates back centuries, appearing in colonial-era illustrations of black Africans. These images sought to portray black people as clowns and freakish beings, exaggerating features so as to suggest the “otherness” of black bodies.“

“The segregationist Jim Crow laws took their name from a minstrelsy act, Jumping Jim Crow, by blackface showboat Thomas Dartmouth Rice – sometimes considered “the father” of minstrel performance – who claimed it was based on a slave he knew.“

A couple of quotes from an article there explaining how this type of imagery is steeped in historical racism.

But I prefer to have 14 players that pkay every week.
I also have Mahrez which has a high risk of benching

Mahrez most probably comes on as a sub even if not starting. Maybe McGinn and Vardy to auba & fodder? Just a thought

Abraham underlying stats are great and Wilson will stop scoring at some point.

I also need to restructure lots in order to get him.

Which one you would downgrade for abraham to Wilson

Mahrez may get benched with midweek 90..surely not have him for wc! downgrade Mahrez to Cantwell and Mcginn to yarmolenko and spend rest on Rico to Otamendi

                                Nice ones!

Mahrez is my differential this week, I think he will play, if not I have Vardy on bench.
McGinn is a beast, he is the reference point at villa and yarmo is a west ham player, ultimate trolls that never deliver more than 3 weeks is a row.

Do you think that city will keep cs?

You should play a 352 with vardy and aubam
up front if possible considering up coming fixtures.
I dont think pukki and abraham can compare with those 2

Any serious player going Pukki C vs AVL?
I am going Pukki as every gw since 1st i have gone wrong on Salah vs Sterling. Not once did I get the higher one as captain. Now with Lei defence strong and Mancity without Kdb against decent wolves side tightening up after Chelsea fiasco, Pukki vs AvL at HOME were they dint even spare Mcity is worth a calculated risk...

if they both start i think you's about break even.. both risk/reward due to doubt. there's definitely a chance you bring in mahrez and he gets 15 minutes.

Don't see any of those keeping a clean sheet so it's who's most likely to assist or score. I'd bench Lowton.

Any suggestions here? I have 0.8m in the bank. Was thinking of removing KDB or upgrading Montoya.

                            Heaton
                            TAA, Digne, Lundstram, Diop
                            Salah, Sterling, Mount, Cantwell
                            Abraham, Pukki

                            Button - Montoya - Greenwood - KDB.

With Fabianski outbid would upgrade diop.
                              Maybe soynucu or tomori

                            Heaton over Pope?

I’d go Pope: home fixture and hope Everton’s away team turn up

If Norwich’s home team turn up, you’d be relying on save points for Heaton

KDB and Hayden out, doubts over Cantwell, I may end up with Kelly starting and Soyuncu off the bench. Best moves from below?

                            A) KDB to Mahrez
                            B) KDB and Barnes to McGinn and Aubameyang (-4)
                            C) Hayden to Saka
D)KDB and Barnes to Mahrez and Abraham (-4)
                            E) Save FT

Every transfer I’ve made this season has been injury related.

I doubt it but i hope so. We'll probably be 4-0 up by then so the pressure will be off Kelly 🙂

I would take a -4 when KdB likely to be back after the break.

On a WC....What do u think of tis squad?

                            Pope Button
                            Otamendi Fredericks Lundstram Rico Soyuncu
Salah Sterling (c) Yarmo Mount Nakamba
                            Pukki Auba (vc) Abraham

                            1.0 ITB

Planning to downgrade Sterling to KDB once he is fit so that i can upgrade either Pukki or Yarmo to a Leicester attacker. Do u think a Pool defender is impt though since they r so expensive? Robertson n TAA r def gd but i find it hard to fit them in without upsetting the balance of e squad...

Have had a bad tendency to leave the points on the bench this season. Even with injuries and suspended players I still fear this since I suddenly have two playing goalkeepers. Is this team ready to rock?
