International Football

Which FPL assets are on international duty and when do they play?

Germany’s friendly with Argentina on Wednesday evening gets a week of international football underway in earnest.

As ever, there will be plenty of Premier League representation across the world and a nervous seven days awaits Fantasy managers whose assets are in action for their respective countries.

We’ve put together our usual club-by-club guide to which players will be away with their nations, detailing the countries they are representing and when their matches are scheduled for.

There are a few notable omissions from the list below, with several well-owned Fantasy Premier League assets having a welcome fortnight off.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) was poised to miss Egypt’s friendly with Botswana even before he picked up an injury in the win over Leicester City, so the premium midfielder has just over a fortnight to recover from a twisted ankle before Liverpool head to Old Trafford in Gameweek 9.

Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) is not part of the Argentina squad, while Raul Jimenez (£7.1m) has been given a well-earned breather by Mexico and will stay in the West Midlands following a gruelling few months with Wolves.

Alisson (£5.8m) remains absent from the Brazil set-up after only just returning to training, while Willian (£7.0m) and Fernandinho (£5.2m) have also not been included in the Selecao squad for their upcoming fixtures.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m), Paul Pogba (£8.4m), Anthony Martial (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£6.1m) are among the players not representing their countries due to fitness issues, with Tom Heaton (£4.5m), Mason Greenwood (£4.4m) and Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) among the clutch of Fantasy assets who were initially called up but who then had to pull out because of injury – further details on the withdrawals can be found towards the bottom of this article.

After having the September international break off, Sadio Mane (£11.7m) will be representing Senegal – but his country face only one friendly against Brazil this Thursday, so the premium midfielder will have over a week to return to Merseyside.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s (£11.0m) owners wouldn’t have been too pleased to see the Arsenal striker called up for Gabon’s double-header against Burkina Faso and Morocco, with the last of those friendlies taking place on Tuesday evening.

Aubameyang has an extra two days to recover, however, with Arsenal taking on Sheffield United on the Monday evening of Gameweek 9.

The further good news is that there are relatively few matches being contested in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Americas, with the likes of Argentina and Colombia instead playing friendlies in Europe.

Brazil contest two friendlies in Singapore but the last of those will kick off on Sunday afternoon (UK time), leaving plenty of time for the likes of Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m), Richarlison (£7.9m), Roberto Firmino (£9.6m) and Ederson (£6.1m) to return to their respective clubs ahead of Gameweek 9.

Also over in Asia, Son Heung-min (£9.8m) is part of the South Korea squad that take on Sri Lanka and North Korea in two World Cup qualifiers, with the last of those kicking off on Tuesday morning UK time.

Son had a similar schedule in the September international break but went on to play 90 minutes and record a 16-point haul in his first game back with Spurs.

Christian Pulisic (£7.2m), DeAndre Yedlin (£4.4m) and Lucas Torreira (£4.8m) are among the few players who are in action on Wednesday morning, with Yedlin and Pulisic set for a late return to England ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

Torreira, like Aubameyang, is not in Premier League action until Monday night in Gameweek 9.

Do we think KDB and Salah will both be back for GW9?

With KDB groin injury can we be certain he will respond. Will be people in the community that will know more but when Trossard sustained his groin injury during the last international break I don't believe it was expected for him to be out as long as he has been?

To the people in the know out there - is KDB injury beleived to be different to that?

I'm actually more confident Salah will be back than KDB...

KDB has a history with injuries and Pep could be playing mindgames with his comments made earlier...

(I am a KDB owner and NOT selling)

You can never be sure with a groin injury. I had so many disappointments with Rooney amongst others with that injury. Salah not certain but 2 weeks for an ankle sprain is probably enough

Save me when I buy him in gw5.

Have most tackles like Ndidi when play, so quite good to BPS. Attacking RB. Most points now despite hard fixtures before .

Ecpect more clean sheet and attacking points hopefully.

Expensive for a defender, but potentially very good value as def + attacking potential

        Which one? Cant choose really.

        a) Pukki to Vardy for free.
        b) Salah and Greenwood to Maddison and Vardy for a hit.

        Thanks guys.

Wilson is (most likely) also on penalties. Vardy doesn't play a top 6 side up until GW18, so why is that even an argument?

In the members section you can change the difficulty rating of teams and this brings up an option to rename it. How do I access this later?

        My team:
        Pope Button
        TAA Soyu Lunds Ota Rico
        KDB Sterling Salah Mount McGinn
        Pukki Greenwood Vardy
        (2FT 0.0 ITB)
Salah + Greenwood to Maddison + Abraham is a upgrade?

You need a captain plan. If you have that could be a short term solution given Salah is a doubt.

Have decided to get in Vardy.
Still a tough decision. Help me out?

        Heaton
        Soyuncu Tomori Digne
        Mount Son KdB Salah
        C.Wilson Pukki Ayew*
        Pope VvD* Diop Stephens

        2 FT, 2.2 ITB

Ayew -> Vardy, funded by VvD -> Lascelles

        Any better moves you'd suggest?

Who is the best mid to own if u just can have one all season?

        A. KDB
        B. Mane
        C. Sterling
        D. Salah.

KDB because he we will score similar as remaining 3 but for 2-2.5m less.

          A

but why would you want to own just one?
Target ideally should be 2-3 ... says me who as of this week only has KDB.

Mane. Cheaper than Sterling and Salah, muss less injury prone than KDB.

Just do A mate, don't overthink it and take big hits. The rest of the team is fine. I know you worry about Son, but it is Watford next and they need to bounce back - Son may bring in some points. Everyone is selling Cantwell, but if you have him as 5th mid on the bench most gameweeks, no need to spend an FT (or even take a hit) on him.

Think I should remain patient and just do Barnes to Wilson then.

Not sure Burnley at home is a game to be taking hits for.

It's a good side but maybe (like I do) it does need a differential or two. Not huge ones just players under 20%.

Downside to that is planning ahead for Liverpool GW13 onwards - do you want defenders still or aim towards their mids.

If player rotation occurs your bench needs to be more sure of playing than Hudson and Connolly.

Defence looks as though you're firmly in the camp thinking clean sheets aren't like to resurge, even though Leicester, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal all have good fixtures.

Sheffield and Liverpool very VsX over the next 4, to the extent I fancy defenders form the above to outscore (and not lose value) vs TAA and Lundstram. Soy and Tomori would be my preferred choices

1FT 1.2m in bank. Rank embarassed to say!

                - A the most sensible followed closely by B but Fear a Puki beat down.
                - Sturggling to make a decison betwen Tammy and Wilson with my rank being what it is i wonder if there is any point in getting Tammy as i wouldnt gain much ground.

Mount, Yarmolenko, Hudson-Odoi, Maddison, Dilva .....or keep eye on their teammates in those brackets and position.

Fraser would be mentioned if only he was getting in the team. but alas not an option right now

In the members section you can change the difficulty rating of teams and this brings up an option to rename it. So far I've not heard any response about how I can access this later.

Are FPL towers forgiving?! So, someone like myself, who has taken fantasy football seriously for years, especially the last few years with decent (ish) OR ranks, if I got hacked and someone made 50 transfers, would FPL agree to reverse them?!?

Got worried as I couldn't log in today so I had to do it through facebook which has never happened before. i am top in all my leagues, some contain many players and for money so maybe someone tried to do me dirty!

Someone hacking my fantasy team would be worse than Christmas being cancelled.

Accounts were only restored after higher-profile people were 'hacked' so probably not.
But seriously doubt anyone's interested in hacking your team. Or mine

PEP PIG got it. If a "friend" went lose on your FPL and made dozens of transfers which you can clearly see must be stupid and not done by the user, would they reverse them, is my point. Not a randomer hacking from accross the world..

Ok but that's not a hack, just being careless with your password or security. Not really FPL's problem. There was an account - fplchef - who had his account 'hacked' before the others. FPL did nothing until other accounts faced the same problem, which was too late for him anyway (following gw).

Following MTpockets comment, FPL will probably not. Could this be a so called friend who accessed your phone or PC for example?

Yes for sure could be but can't think of when, but I don't know why my password didn't match and had to log on through Facebook. If the season ended today, I would win around £1000, so a near challenger may be sick enough to try do dirty!

So if FPL saw someone who hasn't lost a -4 this season, randonly do 12 transfers, stupid ones as well, they wouldn't reverse?! Fair enough. Extra security.

If strong players had been added they could argue that you meant to click WC and never did in error.

Though going off what you said, it would be obvious "if" they looked into it so no harm in trying.

If no luck in the next week, then FH or WC would have to be activated to overturn it

its is when they are losing 2-0 at home but not when they are smashing teams 8-0. All depends on what form you think they will pick up

I did Jimenez, but considered both. When you say "a couple" what happens if Wilson gets a few hauls, would you still sell for vardy?!?

I say pick one now and stick, who knows what surgery your team may need in the future.

And if the choice was mine, I'd say Vardy. On penalties and I guess more trustworthy against top 6 sides.

That would be a difficult choice, for that reason I might just go vardy and stick

I'd want a Leicester player ASAP. Have you got Maddison?

0.3 short. Those numbers work if I take Digne out instead of Ota, but I was also considering Digne > Soy and Barnes > Tammy.

I don't like Barnes and Pukki is dead to me after last weeks captain fail.

I dont like Barnes as you cant really trust who scores out of him or Wood and i don't think they really assist each other either?!

Maybe get Jimenez and J.King if you can afford?! King isn't the most prolific, but has 2 good games, on pens and can score. Jimi is a good team player.

Wilson and connolly looks alright, but connolly might just be a 1 game wonder and not do much from now on?!

Love to have Jimi but those Uefa league fixtures are killing him IMO.

Connolly would be a bench warmer.

I’m hoping this changes, however, Jimi isn’t playing internationals for the remainder of this year so he has the chance for a rest. He also has scored 6 in Europa league, plus his 2 in the premier league, so his confidence should still be there!

I'd wait on Salah/KDB news personally. If one of them is out then you could look to downgrade one of them, and then upgrade Barnes (I'd be looking at Wilson or Auba in that case depending on which mid you go for). If they're both fit, I like the Wilson and Connolly move.

                            Thoughts on this WC?

Setting up a stronger squad now we are approaching rotation season.

McGinn & Tomori are the main two who will be interchangeable in a 3-4-3/4-3-3

                            Pope, Henderson
                            Boly, Soyuncu, Robbo/TAA, Kelly, Tomori
                            Mane, McGinn, KDB, Cantwell, Mount
