International Football

Which FPL assets are on international duty and when do they play?

Germany’s friendly with Argentina on Wednesday evening gets a week of international football underway in earnest.

As ever, there will be plenty of Premier League representation across the world and a nervous seven days awaits Fantasy managers whose assets are in action for their respective countries.

We’ve put together our usual club-by-club guide to which players will be away with their nations, detailing the countries they are representing and when their matches are scheduled for.

There are a few notable omissions from the list below, with several well-owned Fantasy Premier League assets having a welcome fortnight off.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) was poised to miss Egypt’s friendly with Botswana even before he picked up an injury in the win over Leicester City, so the premium midfielder has just over a fortnight to recover from a twisted ankle before Liverpool head to Old Trafford in Gameweek 9.

Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) is not part of the Argentina squad, while Raul Jimenez (£7.1m) has been given a well-earned breather by Mexico and will stay in the West Midlands following a gruelling few months with Wolves.

Alisson (£5.8m) remains absent from the Brazil set-up after only just returning to training, while Willian (£7.0m) and Fernandinho (£5.2m) have also not been included in the Selecao squad for their upcoming fixtures.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m), Paul Pogba (£8.4m), Anthony Martial (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£6.1m) are among the players not representing their countries due to fitness issues, with Tom Heaton (£4.5m), Mason Greenwood (£4.4m) and Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) among the clutch of Fantasy assets who were initially called up but who then had to pull out because of injury – further details on the withdrawals can be found towards the bottom of this article.

After having the September international break off, Sadio Mane (£11.7m) will be representing Senegal – but his country face only one friendly against Brazil this Thursday, so the premium midfielder will have over a week to return to Merseyside.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s (£11.0m) owners wouldn’t have been too pleased to see the Arsenal striker called up for Gabon’s double-header against Burkina Faso and Morocco, with the last of those friendlies taking place on Tuesday evening.

Aubameyang has an extra two days to recover, however, with Arsenal taking on Sheffield United on the Monday evening of Gameweek 9.

The further good news is that there are relatively few matches being contested in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Americas, with the likes of Argentina and Colombia instead playing friendlies in Europe.

Brazil contest two friendlies in Singapore but the last of those will kick off on Sunday afternoon (UK time), leaving plenty of time for the likes of Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m), Richarlison (£7.9m), Roberto Firmino (£9.6m) and Ederson (£6.1m) to return to their respective clubs ahead of Gameweek 9.

Also over in Asia, Son Heung-min (£9.8m) is part of the South Korea squad that take on Sri Lanka and North Korea in two World Cup qualifiers, with the last of those kicking off on Tuesday morning UK time.

Son had a similar schedule in the September international break but went on to play 90 minutes and record a 16-point haul in his first game back with Spurs.

Christian Pulisic (£7.2m), DeAndre Yedlin (£4.4m) and Lucas Torreira (£4.8m) are among the few players who are in action on Wednesday morning, with Yedlin and Pulisic set for a late return to England ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

Torreira, like Aubameyang, is not in Premier League action until Monday night in Gameweek 9.

Please help, I don't want Kane or Pukki anymore! but Kane has Watford and can't replace Pukki without taking a premium player out for a hit:

    Ryan (Button)
TAA / Ota / Tomori / Lundstram (Montoya)
    Sterling / Mane / Mount (Dendon/Cantwell)
    Kane / Pukki / Tammy

    Thanks

          because he's playing Watford

          1. MTPockets

I'd keep him for Watford, and wouldn't sell the other premiums.
But either you don't want him anymore, or you do - for Watford.

I'm going for him. Already top of the pile and they only just found their defensive shape back. Boly is a bps magnet but when Saïs is back in the XI after injury he is better value anyway

        KDB Mane McGinn Mount
        Auba Vardy Tammy

        McGovern Lund Lowton Dendonk

McGinn’a fixtures maybe not looking the best. He’s one where if I had him I’d keep him but if I’m WC maybe not. But he is a value midfield enabler so may be worth it.

          How’s this for a WC?

          Pope | Button

          TAA | Rico | Soy | Dunk | Lund

          Mane | Mount | Maddison | KDB | Dendonker

          Aguero | Wilson | Abraham

Some self critique - weak at the back, but I feel like there’s more points in attack than defence.

No Auba, can only really have either aguero or Auba and I think Aguero’s point ceiling is higher.

          Thoughts?

Defence is not weak imo, premium ones do not deliver enough to justify price tag. I would prefer KDB + Vardy to Aguero + Maddison if KDB is confirmed fit.

got any cash to squeeze Boly in for Dunk? Personal preference but like the look of him and its back to back clean sheets for wolves so far. Might be a tidy differential!

Bernardo Silva has been granted an extension until October 21st to respond to the FA misconduct charge over his Twitter post directed towards Benjamin Mendy.

I've gone Auba - security of starts, long run of good fixtures, 1m (or so) cheaper. Both are good options though.

Traoré is a starter for me, I'd rather have him than Donker. Also with the .6 I save, can't really upgrade anyone interesting, Boly in for Willems maybe, but that's about it.

            Two questions:

            1. Would have this been your wildcard 7 days ago?
            2. Would you select same wildcard in 14 days?

If no to both then bin it

If no to one and yes to the other then ok fair enough : go for it but I wouldn’t.

It's build around the must haves imo for the coming weeks: KDB, Sterling, Mané, Vardy & TAA. Due to low team value (100.4) this is the best team I can come up with. Traoré & Connolly could be insane value for their prices

Nice to see you're still onto this. Loving it, good balance between template and some punts (traoré, willems). I really believe in Willems i posted him as the next bandwagon already 2 weeks ago, he was such a skilled player@PSV. Made the Dutch team at 17. Only his mentality (got pretty chunky after injury) was questioned back then, but this wingback role is made for him. He was a winger turned into a back anyway. Hopefully newcastle can keep their cs going and then our ranks will rocket.

Hi man, thanks for the reply, appreciated!
It's my first year playing FPL, so making some rookie mistakes (not chasing team value) but I think it's going good. 900k rank and only using my WC now, still have all the chips left and it's exciting to fresh the team up a bit.
Willems looked really good indeed, hope he can bring the points indeed =)

Top FPL Tips for premature Puntulation

          1) Invest your money on midfielders and strikers. Expensive goalkeepers and defenders are a waste.
          2) Get off to a strong start and use your bonuses early - it means you won't lose interest and gets points on the board.
          3) Keep an eye on big teams with good players underperforming. "I'm looking at Spurs now, they can't get any worse and have Watford coming up."
          4) Steer away from Manchester City whenever you dare. "You never know who the manager is going to pick".
          5) Close your eyes and GO Go GO

Having finished top 802 - I would happily take rank 1 at anytime then finish 10k. Rather than be 300k then finish top 5k

Finishing 5k or 10k is the same to me.

I’d love to be rank 1 even it were only for gameweek 8

Tanner will finish 10k and you will finish at 5k but I’d take 10k finish having been rank 1 at some point.

          Son KDB Mahrez Dilva CHO
          Vardy Wilson Tammy

probably just bench Dilva when it 'looks like' he will be rested, hope for autosubs to kick in the other times … would Bilva or Mahrez be better?

Or take a minus 8 taking out Salah, OTA, 4.4 for KDB, Tammy, Boly? Currently own Sterling and Aguero atm!

GTG ? No FT, 0.6 ITB

              Ryan (Button)
              Otamendi, TAA, Rico Digne (Lundstram)
              Mount Salah, Sterling Maddison (Dendocker)
              Abraham (c) Pukki (Haller)

Pukki Haller Digne combination looks wrong to me. I'd upgrade attack

Digne + Pukki + Haller -> Abraham + Wilson + cheapy (-4) will almost certainly pay off over the next few gwks

Prior to last Saturday, Heung-Min Son had 2 Goals and 3 assists in 4 matches (78,90,90,63mins) scoring 29 pts.

It’s Watford next ... who are equally underachieving from expectation in some people’s opinion (not everyone).

The worry is he might be rotated but if you own him it's a definite hold.

Last Saturday was first away match where Spurs were bookies favourites. Man City and Arsenal draws was ok. Leicester defeat disappointing after leading but Leicester are pretty good.

9 pts from 12 at home and they bombarded Newcastle but Toon defended well. Looking for evidence that Watford can defend well.

Spurs must turn corner eventually if the house ever gets in order.

1 or just hold one more week and use 2FT to change it about.

A or B with KDB already. I'm on Salah and hoping he turns his form around after IB but its personal prefernce, Mane is a beast

Yeah impossible to pick v salah or mane

As I have the cash I am tempted to go for the more expensive salah ...
