International Football

Which FPL assets are on international duty and when do they play?

Germany’s friendly with Argentina on Wednesday evening gets a week of international football underway in earnest.

As ever, there will be plenty of Premier League representation across the world and a nervous seven days awaits Fantasy managers whose assets are in action for their respective countries.

We’ve put together our usual club-by-club guide to which players will be away with their nations, detailing the countries they are representing and when their matches are scheduled for.

There are a few notable omissions from the list below, with several well-owned Fantasy Premier League assets having a welcome fortnight off.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) was poised to miss Egypt’s friendly with Botswana even before he picked up an injury in the win over Leicester City, so the premium midfielder has just over a fortnight to recover from a twisted ankle before Liverpool head to Old Trafford in Gameweek 9.

Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) is not part of the Argentina squad, while Raul Jimenez (£7.1m) has been given a well-earned breather by Mexico and will stay in the West Midlands following a gruelling few months with Wolves.

Alisson (£5.8m) remains absent from the Brazil set-up after only just returning to training, while Willian (£7.0m) and Fernandinho (£5.2m) have also not been included in the Selecao squad for their upcoming fixtures.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m), Paul Pogba (£8.4m), Anthony Martial (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£6.1m) are among the players not representing their countries due to fitness issues, with Tom Heaton (£4.5m), Mason Greenwood (£4.4m) and Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) among the clutch of Fantasy assets who were initially called up but who then had to pull out because of injury – further details on the withdrawals can be found towards the bottom of this article.

After having the September international break off, Sadio Mane (£11.7m) will be representing Senegal – but his country face only one friendly against Brazil this Thursday, so the premium midfielder will have over a week to return to Merseyside.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s (£11.0m) owners wouldn’t have been too pleased to see the Arsenal striker called up for Gabon’s double-header against Burkina Faso and Morocco, with the last of those friendlies taking place on Tuesday evening.

Aubameyang has an extra two days to recover, however, with Arsenal taking on Sheffield United on the Monday evening of Gameweek 9.

The further good news is that there are relatively few matches being contested in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Americas, with the likes of Argentina and Colombia instead playing friendlies in Europe.

Brazil contest two friendlies in Singapore but the last of those will kick off on Sunday afternoon (UK time), leaving plenty of time for the likes of Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m), Richarlison (£7.9m), Roberto Firmino (£9.6m) and Ederson (£6.1m) to return to their respective clubs ahead of Gameweek 9.

Also over in Asia, Son Heung-min (£9.8m) is part of the South Korea squad that take on Sri Lanka and North Korea in two World Cup qualifiers, with the last of those kicking off on Tuesday morning UK time.

Son had a similar schedule in the September international break but went on to play 90 minutes and record a 16-point haul in his first game back with Spurs.

Christian Pulisic (£7.2m), DeAndre Yedlin (£4.4m) and Lucas Torreira (£4.8m) are among the few players who are in action on Wednesday morning, with Yedlin and Pulisic set for a late return to England ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

Torreira, like Aubameyang, is not in Premier League action until Monday night in Gameweek 9.

Ah ffs pukki is gonna double drop so annoying. Wanted to hold for one more week as the replacements are so mediocre

What price did you buy him for?

6.5. Got a tonne itb so can go for Vardy if I wanted. Wilson looking the favourite atm but not excited at all

So next drop means decrease in SV.
I got him for 6.6 so next drop doesn't affect me.
I have Barnes to deal with too so keeping Pukki for this week and getting Wilson for Barnes.

If you have don't have any other move to make then I'd strongly consider getting Vardy/Wilson.

If I have .1 remaining after doing Pukki>Wilson currently, do I have time to wait out injuries before making this move?

Yeah it’s annoying as I still think pukki has something to offer at that price. Barnes definitely your priority but I should probably get Wilson in before it’s too late. Cheers.

Might be additional drops on Pukki as well since even the casual players have more time to ponder and execute their moves over the international break.

    Front three tinkering:
    1. Vardy/Aubameyang/Abraham
    2. C. Wilson/ Vardy (or Aubameyang)/Abraham – leaving a bit more itb.

    Which option would you prefer?

Any Wildcarders willing to rotate goalkeepers with these 8 HOME fixtures up from GW9-16 (7 Dec):

Warning costs you average 4.7 per keeper

    WATFORD
    C PALACE
    WOLVES
    SHEFFIELD UTD
    SOUTHAMPTON
    BOURNEMOUTH
    BRIGHTON

I’d agree prior to this season but the 38 points I got from my Pope Heaton rotation this year is only matched by Patrício and outscores Ederson by 9 points.

Slightly regret quickfire selling Pukki on WC I must say....

However, I can only, for now, fit in 2 of him Abraham and Maddison...

I could still keep Cantwell though. Hmm

        Probably/hopefully 😆 cheers.

Which combo do you prefer here on WC bro?

        A) Sterling Maddison Yarmolenko // Connolly (352)
        B) Sterling Maddison Jimenez // Cantwell (343) - no Lei attack...
        C) KDB Yarmolenko Vardy // Cantwell (343)
        D) KDB Maddison Wilson/Jim // Cantwell (343)

Or anything else? Tough calls... I just brought Yarmolenko in last week for a hit - would you keep for a few more? Decent fixtures after all

I'm friends with Norwich fans and they are thinking he'll lose his spot when Hernandez is fit. D for me looks stronger.

Really? He’s been quite good though?

You’d be confident dropping Sterling for KDB then? Maddison over Vardy too obvs.

And no love for Yarmolenko as a differential then?

            Wilson v Jimenez tough

Norwich has more forwards fit to play and in-form than they can field at a time, while they have a 3rd GK on goal and less
first choice (even second choice?) defenders fit to play than they should field in the XI...

Chelsea fairly leaky and Dunk goal threat probably better than Tomori - also possibly more nailed long term.

Just now, the following are pretty much locked in:
          Pope McGovern
          TAA Söyüncü Dunk Lundstram Rico
          Mane Mount
          Auba Abraham

With the following up for debate, as above:
Sterling v KDB (also influences Vardy v Maddison+Wilson/Jim)
343 with Cantwell sub or 352 with Connolly?
Keep Yarmolenko next few or admit defeat after 1GW?

I've gone without Mane which might be a bit of a risk...

            Pope Button
            TAA Soyuncu Tomori Kelly Rico
            Sterling KDB Maddison Mount Dendoncker

Thanks, yea I fancy CHO as a punt. More likely to replace Vardy or Wilson than him, but they both have the fixtures right now too. D. Luiz is just fodder atm, dont want to upgrade him because that would just lead to massive benching headaches each week.

      Salah over Mane?
KDB over Raz (im trying to convince myself there)
Keeping ota? City too shaky for me...

Just wondering as those are the large changes to my WC. As for what to do could you upgrade DLuiz to Maddison? If not yeah Robbo could be a good shout

          What’s your confidence in him?

Maybe it’s just cos he burnt me this week bringing him in for a hit but I’m wavering... Vardy over him on WC can give me significant upgrades elsewhere - I can get Wilson over Connolly, I can even get Son in!

True. Tbh even looking at his next fixtures isn’t that encouraging despite FDR...

Blades away, who have conceded second least goals behind only Liverpool. Then palace, albeit at home, who have been fairly solid defensively too.

Then wolves who just frustrated a much better team than arsenal, followed by Leicester away.

After that if he’s still doing well could be time to bring in but would you say, for example:
Vardy Wilson Son outscores Auba Jimenez Maddison?

Auba+Pukki + Maddi for me out of that lot

Interesting! I paid 6.7 but unfortunately I sold already lol, for Abraham though.

That said if he keeps dropping I could get him back 😆

Do you rate Maddison as an FPL pick? Good enough to be a Vardy alternative

Tough Q. I just reckon Maddi will tick over and i cant see myself going Vardy(c) soon so I'm gambling that the likes of Wilson/Tammy/Pukki will keep up with vardy for 2m less.

Im not sure Im going to bother with Leic to be honest, other than Soy.

I felt the same. I was more reluctant to sell Raz than I was to sell Salah. Once I did it and watched kdb i knew it was the correct move. One sometimes look at the players differently when you own them.
