International Football

Which FPL assets are on international duty and when do they play?

Germany’s friendly with Argentina on Wednesday evening gets a week of international football underway in earnest.

As ever, there will be plenty of Premier League representation across the world and a nervous seven days awaits Fantasy managers whose assets are in action for their respective countries.

We’ve put together our usual club-by-club guide to which players will be away with their nations, detailing the countries they are representing and when their matches are scheduled for.

There are a few notable omissions from the list below, with several well-owned Fantasy Premier League assets having a welcome fortnight off.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) was poised to miss Egypt’s friendly with Botswana even before he picked up an injury in the win over Leicester City, so the premium midfielder has just over a fortnight to recover from a twisted ankle before Liverpool head to Old Trafford in Gameweek 9.

Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) is not part of the Argentina squad, while Raul Jimenez (£7.1m) has been given a well-earned breather by Mexico and will stay in the West Midlands following a gruelling few months with Wolves.

Alisson (£5.8m) remains absent from the Brazil set-up after only just returning to training, while Willian (£7.0m) and Fernandinho (£5.2m) have also not been included in the Selecao squad for their upcoming fixtures.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m), Paul Pogba (£8.4m), Anthony Martial (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£6.1m) are among the players not representing their countries due to fitness issues, with Tom Heaton (£4.5m), Mason Greenwood (£4.4m) and Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) among the clutch of Fantasy assets who were initially called up but who then had to pull out because of injury – further details on the withdrawals can be found towards the bottom of this article.

After having the September international break off, Sadio Mane (£11.7m) will be representing Senegal – but his country face only one friendly against Brazil this Thursday, so the premium midfielder will have over a week to return to Merseyside.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s (£11.0m) owners wouldn’t have been too pleased to see the Arsenal striker called up for Gabon’s double-header against Burkina Faso and Morocco, with the last of those friendlies taking place on Tuesday evening.

Aubameyang has an extra two days to recover, however, with Arsenal taking on Sheffield United on the Monday evening of Gameweek 9.

The further good news is that there are relatively few matches being contested in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Americas, with the likes of Argentina and Colombia instead playing friendlies in Europe.

Brazil contest two friendlies in Singapore but the last of those will kick off on Sunday afternoon (UK time), leaving plenty of time for the likes of Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m), Richarlison (£7.9m), Roberto Firmino (£9.6m) and Ederson (£6.1m) to return to their respective clubs ahead of Gameweek 9.

Also over in Asia, Son Heung-min (£9.8m) is part of the South Korea squad that take on Sri Lanka and North Korea in two World Cup qualifiers, with the last of those kicking off on Tuesday morning UK time.

Son had a similar schedule in the September international break but went on to play 90 minutes and record a 16-point haul in his first game back with Spurs.

Christian Pulisic (£7.2m), DeAndre Yedlin (£4.4m) and Lucas Torreira (£4.8m) are among the few players who are in action on Wednesday morning, with Yedlin and Pulisic set for a late return to England ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

Torreira, like Aubameyang, is not in Premier League action until Monday night in Gameweek 9.

If you bought Pukki for 6m and you sell now before he drops you can make a profit of 2m

for a 2m profit, Pukki would have needed to reach 10m.

Well, Douglas luiz is not nailed (check his mins), longstaff played his first game. Traore looked very good, wont haul every week but certainly could be a bargain at 5.0

Douglas Luiz has almost has many goals as Traore and he's played 8 gws as opposed to Traore's 4 years...

Plus wasn't Traore only starting because Jota is out?

I've already taken a -8 and am considering whether to play my wildcard or not....

    My current squad is:
    Pope Button
    VVD Otamendi Tomori Rico Hanley
    Sterling KDB Maddison Mount Dendoncker
    Auba Vardy Abraham

If I wildcard, my moves would just be to sort out my defence a bit (get TAA, Soyuncu and Kelly probably).

What should I do? Stick with -8 or wildcard?

Fair point. Spurs in crisis atm so not sure I'd pick up any of their defenders anyway.

Prefer to just stick with tried and trusted Pope. Sometimes CS, saves, BAPs, sometimes not - oh well. only 0.2 more.

You can only have one GK and Pope, Ryan and Henderson are better options at that price
Don't think I would even take the 4.4 def now which would seem crazy in previous years

Keep Yarmolenko on WC - Y/N/Why?
If I want I can only have 2 from him Maddison Wilson rn.

Thing stopping me ditching is his fixtures are still good, close to returns last game, cheaper obviously, and only just brought him in (yes ik the last one is iffy reasoning but still).

      Y over Maddison

Fixtures are nice, he looks dangerous as you said, and cheaper than Maddison, so keep that money in the bank (after a wild card you should be able to save a transfer, and some funds will be nice should you want to make a double switch in 10)...especially if you have Vardy it's a no brainer for me.

Considering a WC, teams currently looking like this:

    Pope (Button)
TAA - Otamendi - Cresswell (Lund, Kelly)
Salah - Sterling - Son - Harry Wilson (Dendoncker)
    Abraham - Barnes - Pukki

A -8 might make a difference but not sure it will sort the whole lot out

He will be rested over the IB and raring to go, gets good service and has 3 favourable fixtures next. Not sure about Auba's service and now that Lacazette is back he may be pushed to the wing. Could possibly switch Aguero > Auba after the next 3 fixtures.

This is certainly the most FFS template WC for this week.

Looks pretty good. I think it's a little too heavy on certain teams though. City, Chelsea and Leicester are 6/7 attackers.

Would balance a bit more by taking Auba over Kun and a cheaper forward over Vardy.

    7. Brosstan

Not so sure on Aguero over Auba. Aguero is an incredibly annoying player to own. can never be sure that he starts makes him almost a non-captain option.

Hi, would you WC this team? Have been doing very poorly this season, being outside 1.5m

    Heaton Pope
    Dunk Lundstram Otamendi Soyuncu TAA
    Cantwell KDB Mount Salah Sterling
    Abraham Ayew Pukki

Would probably do Pukki to Haller or Salah (if unfit) + Pukki -> Mane + Wilson if I don't WC

Happy with KDB for now, the rest are all poor value imho considering the amount of rotation there will be. And team confidence looks poor to me, Pep slowly unravelling in his fourth season at City. Twas always on the cards.

They still scored 27 goals, have 3 out of 4 at home and always very well react after they lose. I would pick Aubameyang over Aguero if Arsenal wasn't such apathetic in offense. They only push their rivals if they have to. It is annoying.
