International Football

Which FPL assets are on international duty and when do they play?

Germany’s friendly with Argentina on Wednesday evening gets a week of international football underway in earnest.

As ever, there will be plenty of Premier League representation across the world and a nervous seven days awaits Fantasy managers whose assets are in action for their respective countries.

We’ve put together our usual club-by-club guide to which players will be away with their nations, detailing the countries they are representing and when their matches are scheduled for.

There are a few notable omissions from the list below, with several well-owned Fantasy Premier League assets having a welcome fortnight off.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) was poised to miss Egypt’s friendly with Botswana even before he picked up an injury in the win over Leicester City, so the premium midfielder has just over a fortnight to recover from a twisted ankle before Liverpool head to Old Trafford in Gameweek 9.

Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) is not part of the Argentina squad, while Raul Jimenez (£7.1m) has been given a well-earned breather by Mexico and will stay in the West Midlands following a gruelling few months with Wolves.

Alisson (£5.8m) remains absent from the Brazil set-up after only just returning to training, while Willian (£7.0m) and Fernandinho (£5.2m) have also not been included in the Selecao squad for their upcoming fixtures.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m), Paul Pogba (£8.4m), Anthony Martial (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£6.1m) are among the players not representing their countries due to fitness issues, with Tom Heaton (£4.5m), Mason Greenwood (£4.4m) and Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) among the clutch of Fantasy assets who were initially called up but who then had to pull out because of injury – further details on the withdrawals can be found towards the bottom of this article.

After having the September international break off, Sadio Mane (£11.7m) will be representing Senegal – but his country face only one friendly against Brazil this Thursday, so the premium midfielder will have over a week to return to Merseyside.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s (£11.0m) owners wouldn’t have been too pleased to see the Arsenal striker called up for Gabon’s double-header against Burkina Faso and Morocco, with the last of those friendlies taking place on Tuesday evening.

Aubameyang has an extra two days to recover, however, with Arsenal taking on Sheffield United on the Monday evening of Gameweek 9.

The further good news is that there are relatively few matches being contested in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Americas, with the likes of Argentina and Colombia instead playing friendlies in Europe.

Brazil contest two friendlies in Singapore but the last of those will kick off on Sunday afternoon (UK time), leaving plenty of time for the likes of Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m), Richarlison (£7.9m), Roberto Firmino (£9.6m) and Ederson (£6.1m) to return to their respective clubs ahead of Gameweek 9.

Also over in Asia, Son Heung-min (£9.8m) is part of the South Korea squad that take on Sri Lanka and North Korea in two World Cup qualifiers, with the last of those kicking off on Tuesday morning UK time.

Son had a similar schedule in the September international break but went on to play 90 minutes and record a 16-point haul in his first game back with Spurs.

Christian Pulisic (£7.2m), DeAndre Yedlin (£4.4m) and Lucas Torreira (£4.8m) are among the few players who are in action on Wednesday morning, with Yedlin and Pulisic set for a late return to England ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

Torreira, like Aubameyang, is not in Premier League action until Monday night in Gameweek 9.

          Hmmm

Personally think I'd put Wilson third behind the other two...

Then again, those two are the highest XG overachievers for forwards in the game...

Abe better value. But Vardy is also a good pick.

      Vardy

Would like to but so many good midfield picks its hard to have them all. Would have to go 3-5-2 to get him in.

Easy Auba, at home playing the kind of teams he scored against

Vardy away games mostly, Arsenal probably his best fixture tbf

Can we have a real discussion about whether we should keep salah or not? Hindsight has made him an offensively poor value pick with recent form. Sterling a much sexier alternative with the next 3 fixtures but is it worth a hit to do the Hokey Cokey or will salah come good after 2 weeks rest? Fixtures are still good as united and spurs are asking for a spank

If I'm completely honest, I don't mind if my strategy of keeping Salah is not quite optimal.

It's still likely to do better than most people who try to be clever.

That's not to say someone somewhere will find the right combination of non-Salahs, but I don't trust myself to be that person.

Yeah this is a fair point. Could end up being wasted transfers very easily especially with a lot of other issues to be handled, I somehow currently find myself with the worst midfield I have ever seen

You have opened a can of worms there mate 😀 Before all the Salah wars begin, I would throw my 2 cents in saying that I think we keep Salah. I reckon he can score against the likes of Man U and Spurs. It doesn't have to be green fixtures for him to rack up the points

Lol too empty around here r n, just stumbled back along myself for a quick hello. I agree with you they are good fixtures now. Salah should be a perfect FPL pick he’s just in poo form, but that’s how he messes with us, pretends he’s lost it then gets a hat trick

I don't have stats for this but seems Salah always gets away from international duty. (This time doens't count though.) Southgate on the other hand, loves to run English assets to the ground. So that's one for Salah.

Don't know about Salah or Raz tbh.
This gw i swapped Salah for Mane. He looked like involved in bloody everything. Also the savings allowed to bring Vardy.
Re Sterling, don't fancy him either. Will get Kun in a gw or 2 if Raz continues to underperform. He plays too wide to cause any damage & less explosive as © option now imo. KDB is more potent for fpl points atm with playing style of MC
