The fixture schedules for Premier League sides involved in Europe

Four of the seven Premier League sides involved in European competition sit in the top half-dozen clubs of our Season Ticker over the next four Gameweeks.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Wolves and Manchester City are the four teams in question, while Manchester United only have the visit of Liverpool to come before they too are catapulted up to the top of our Season Ticker.

Many of those clubs may be towards the forefront of Fantasy managers’ thoughts ahead of Gameweek 9, then, although ongoing involvement in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, along with participation in the Carabao Cup, leaves several FPL assets exposed to the risk of rotation.

Already we have seen Nuno Espirito Santo break last season’s habit of maintaining a settled side, with Raul Jimenez (£7.1m), Conor Coady (£5.0m), Willy Boly (£5.0m) and Rui Patricio (£5.1m) the only Wolves players to avoid being benched in the first eight Gameweeks of 2019/20.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m), Riyad Mahrez (£8.7m), Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) have all warmed the bench at least once this season, too, as Pep Guardiola rotates his squad with frustrating regularity.

For other clubs, the effect has not quite been so pronounced: Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m), Andrew Robertson (£6.9m) and Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) are all ever-presents in the top flight, while Sadio Mane (£11.7m) and Roberto Firmino‘s (£9.6m) benchings in Gameweeks 1 and 5 were influenced by their late returns from international duty.

Unai Emery and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have mostly fielded second-string players and academy products in the Europa League, meanwhile.

With the fixture congestion in mind, we thought it was worth a look at the upcoming schedules for Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers over the next two months, given that all of these teams are still involved in European competition and all bar Spurs remain in the Carabao Cup.

If any of these clubs progress to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup, they will play twice a week, every week, from now until the turn of 2020 – with the exception of the international breaks.

We have stopped at Gameweek 14 as the TV fixtures for December and beyond have yet to be announced, so there is a lot of rejigging to the Premier League calendar still to factor in.

Below is a club-by-club itinerary, with the fixtures in italics Champions League/Europa League/Carabao Cup ties.

We will look at how the respective clubs’ managers approached team selection in Gameweeks 5-8 in closer detail in a follow-up article tomorrow.

      You love to see it.

Happily dropped him on WC. City CS might hurt but I’d rather have Dunk+1.0 for now. City shaky despite fixtures and Ota is just crap nowadays

CS will hardly hurt. His main value is a goal and CS. Will probably get rid in a few if not earlier.

Won’t it? Is city defence EO not fairly high?

And fair enough. If I wasn’t wildcarding I’d probably keep til the Liverpool game

Less than 50 EO in defence compared to 100 for Pool in top 10K.

Really depends if I want to triple up in City attack. Kind of regret Tomori and Otamendi who are recent additions as they max out their team. Pool defender would be the ideal replacement.

Almost sorted, as long as KDB declared fit I’ll risk him over Sterling for now - Auba gives an easy route back if needed.

    Pope McGovern
    TAA Dunk Söyüncü Lundstram Rico
    Mane KDB Mount Maddison Cantwell
    Auba Abraham Wilson

How does this WC look? Dropping Sterling and Yarmodifferential biggest concerns, plus lack of Vardy for now - but Maddison decent alternative?

Yeah exactly. Plus any IB injuries could either reinforce thinking (eg Sterling injury) or force changes (eg Auba injury or something).

That could be a good shout tbh I’ll look into it - Brighton do look quite solid tho and Dunk available at pretty cheap price.

Very similar to my current draft, and I think this is both a bit template and sensible as far as player picks and spreading the funds goes.

I'm also tinkering with a draft that includes Aubameyang + Agüero, but that looks much more risky.

      1. Top Lad Dakes.

That’s what I’m thinking yeah. Wilson possibly a short term pick but immediate fixtures are amazing and if it doesn’t work can downgrade him to either Jimenez, pukki if he starts firing again or to fodder and upgrade elsewhere 🙂

I tried to do a draft like that earlier after seeing Christina’s potential team but my TV is a bit too poor to make it viable 😆 she had something like:

        Ryan/Pope
        TAA Lundstram Lowton Rico xxx
        KDB Mane Mount Cantwell xxx
        Auba Aguero Abraham

        1. TAT
          • 6 Years

Already had Wilson in my team before playing the WC, and I'm struggling whether I should keep him or get Vardy/Auba/Kun instead (formation and funds depending). There's definitely a case for keeping, but I might want to look beyond those immediate fixtures. As for now, he's still in the team.

The good thing about any of Wilson/Vardy/Auba/Kun which you mention too) is that they're all easy to downgrade should funds be needed elsewhere. A cheaper front three won't allow that.

Interesting draft that! My TV won't get me that team either, unfortunately. What is Christina’s team value?

Looks good. Think unlikely you will play Cantwell so I would go for 4.4 m - Nakamba looks to have secured starting place and gives a bit more in bank

        • 7 Years
        4 years, 5 months ago

Could be a good shout, thanks for the reply! You’re right in that currently I probably wouldn’t play him much at all, however he’s kind of an insurance choice in case a) wilson fails and I downgrade him to fodder, so can play 5 man midfield w Cantwell or b) Norwich pick it up and he’s a good option again?

Dunno if those are good reasons tbh. I’ll look into it 😆 christina did point out his stats are still good tho

Otamendi looking like a liability. Only reason keeping ( tempted to move to Tomori) is until Tierney gets couple of games under his belt as think he could really do well in PL.

      • 7 Years
      4 years, 5 months ago

Yeah despite him being an Arsenal defender I’m keeping a close eye on Tierney too. Would need a tad more reshuffling for me as I’ve downgraded Ota to Dunk but could become a nice differential for sure. Cut price Robbo if he can help tighten their defence up?

I think I'm happy with the midfielder.

Possible doubts picking Wilson over Vardy but Rogers team are not that direct as a team so think wilson will outscore vardy.

Dunk or Soy or any other suggestions?

Is frederick a good option for both cs and attacking points? Or will losing Fabianski put that cs at risk?

that sounds reasonable, a bit concerned pukki will score next game, but wilson looks more reliable. Thanks

fixtures of all of them are pretty good, that's why I wouldn't do it for -4, but if you're desperate than B over A. Haller might punish you though

I think Abraham is more likely to deliver than Vardy (and if you disagree on this then the price gives you more options as he's more than 1 mio cheaper)

Most recently - sold KDB for Dilva. We all know the story with KDB's price so not a great move. But have done it in the past as well on occasion and the player I brought in for that 1 week never brought points home so just felt like a wasted FT

Seriously asking if a team who have kept 1 cs entire season, and is in free fall, have a goalkeeper you want? 🙂
Want cheap? Go Ryan or Pope. Schmeichel highest point potential next couple of gw

I think Spurs will struggle in the short term but eventually sort it out (possibly with a new manager). For me he is still better value than Schmeichel and definitely Pickford.

I have Pope, but Im not sure who is better value than him as Burnley have better upcoming fixtures
