Why has Pukki’s FPL form dipped and should we sell him for Gameweek 9?

Fantasy Premier League managers have finally lost patience with Teemu Pukki (£7.1m).

Despite scoring 37 points in the first four Gameweeks of the campaign, the Norwich City striker has attacking returns in just one of his last five Premier League outings.

That has led to a significant drop in Pukki’s ownership ahead of Gameweek 9, 270,000+ managers selling him so far over the international break.

Not surprisingly, that makes the Finland international the most transferred-out player following Gameweek 8, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) sat behind him on 235,000+ sales.

However, 40.6% of Fantasy managers worldwide are still in possession of Pukki, while he was still the most popular forward in Gameweek 9 teams among the top 10,000 too.

With Norwich preparing for a trip to Bournemouth, who are not exactly famed for a solid defensive record, there will almost certainly be a large number of managers contemplating whether or not to give Pukki one more week.

We’ve taken a look at his underlying statistics over the first eight Gameweeks of the season to find out…

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

What has happened to Pukki’s goal threat?

Lessons learned from Gameweek 8

But all that aside i do like to watch NI in action,Michael O'Neill has them well drilled and very organized. They are giant killers on the international stage.I would love to see an all Ireland soccer team at some stage like that is done in Rugby so as to give Ireland the best chance possible of actually doing something special at a international tournament.

I think the two football associations will become one again at some stage but not in the near future.

It has done wonders for our Rugby team and we are now right up there in the International stage with even an outside chance of winning a World Cup which would be absolutely amazing.

Different crowd though that follows soccer on this Island and it is fair to say a bit more sectarian which would make things difficult.I think one of the major stumbling blocks are the two football associations that if merged would mean a lot of people would lose their jobs in the streamlining process.

Job loss is always a dilemma of organisations being integrated into one and I am always slightly uncomfortable with this . It's the age old question of how far do you take it . A U.K. team imo benefits no country . On what level is integration to be furthered ? Good point.

I actually want to try going without City. Pep has a major problem = his defence and showed vs Wolves. They panicked which made their attack panic. He is playing a high line with Ota and Fernandinho lol. Accident waiting to happen. We may just see Pep changing tactics which might affect their attack.

I can see more results on the cards of panic for City plus Pep putting players into the naughty corner for not performing. I would not be surprised to see Jesus start ahead of Kun GW9.

Sure they can't defend. LaPorte is their best defender, crocked, and not an elite defender either. Keep ball is their defence. They'd never cope sitting back absorbing pressure with Mendy, Walker and Otamendi to rely on keeping goals out.

And is why Pep's problem is defence so his midfield will probably not be as in your face as we are used to seeing. High tempo may just take the back seat for a couple of games...

And be hit on the counter with Ota and Fernandinho trying to keep up?

Cannot leave the gap of midfield all forward and defence sitting back. Neither can Pep afford to see his defence playing so high.

He is in a bit of a predicement I say.

if defense is poor, they will attack more. if they concede 2, they will try to score 5.
poor analysis to compare defense and attack, look at norwich & bmouth, they dont defend well, but they are much more attacking compared to other teams.
either teams defend more or they attack more, they cant do nothing.

Tricky, other than De Bruyne, especially with Champions League, who will be in that attack from game to game. Sterling, Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Jesus and Aguero, surely forgot some, to pick from. Most likely Sterling and Aguero will be starters but pesky Mahrez upsetting things with his form! Nice dilemma for Pep, not for FPL owners.

I’m still baffled at their summer transfer activity - how did they end up going into a 60-game season with only 3 recognised centre-halfs, (two of which Pep avoids playing together like the plague) and a 35 year old DM as an auxiliary??

Especially after winning the league so narrowly last season

I would have thought a club with their aspirations, and financial muscle, would have had another 5 or 6 targets after Maguire, especially when they had so much forewarning of Kompany’s departure AND Pep’s hate of playing Stones/Ota together

Real schoolboy error in hindsight - i’ll happily go formally on record in saying I’d be shocked if they won the league from here with that central defensive personnel gap - its not happening imo

It would be a totally logical thing to do - but probably 6 months too late & if the 8 point gap grows any larger between now & then it may not be enough

Who knows though, maybe it sets up a blockbuster last 10 games where they reel Liverpool in on the final day or something

                  Can’t see it personally though

Pep said they could not afford Maguire. Maybe he knows what UTD didn't that Maguire was nowhere worth even close to what was paid for him.

Maguire was ok for City. He is ok for UTD but my word what a fail.

Looks pretty good - although of course we all know and understand the risks with selling Sterling... he can hattrick in literally any game - but if you don’t spike a captaincy for that hattrick it’s hard to get value out of him

Either way, 6-8-3-2-0-7-2 has been very worrying from a pure output perspective for a 12.0+ player

Plenty of other good captains available in his absence - the three you’re bringing in should do extremely well in weeks to come, all have quality, form, fixtures, attacking managers, no European distractions, and zero doubts over their starts in every game - 3 generally excellent FPL assets

It reminds me of these Instagram scammers who claim they have made millions and now want to suddenly share all of their knowledge with you. They are there posing by their rented Lambo and pictures by someone else's mansion showing their extravagant lifestyles luring in the easily manipulated folk who are desperate to make "easy" money.

But hang on, it's going to cost you to get this information.

The valuation of the site is apparently in the millions, surely that's a red flag already?

Being a small time investor investing minor amounts in startups is pure idiocy. Using large bills to wipe your arse instead of spending them on toilet paper is a better use of money.

What do you reckon to this wildcard team?

    Button. Pope.
    Rico. Söyüncü. Lundstram. Tomori. TAA.
    Mane. Sterling. KDB. Maddison. Mount.
    Connolly. Vardy. Abraham.

    0 ITB
    Any negatives with this team?

    Tomori could be Dunk?

      Wilson Auba Tammy

      Bench: Ryan Guendouzi Lowton Lundstram

F the WC makes no difference

        Pope
TAA , Robertson, Soy , Tomori, Lundstram
Sterling, Mane , Son , Mount , Cantwell
        Wilson, Abraham, Greenwood

0.8M ITB . Wouldn't change this lot for the current GW.

How about this for something completely different:

      Ederson - Henderson
      TAA - Robertson - Tomori - Mings - Lundstram
      Ward-Prowse - Kante - Doucoure - Cantwell - Harry Wilson
      Firmino - Jimenez - Abraham

Rico is more likely to give you an attacking return
Kelly is more likely to give you a defensive return

Subjective. Over a third of their starting line-up in injured and hindering their performance: Pogba, Martial, Shaw, and AWB.

        1. George Sillett
          • 8 Years
          4 years, 5 months ago

No . Objective. They are 6th place at very best with a fully fit squad under a decent coach and 8th at best under this one. If they keep with OGS until the end of the season I think that they won't be top 8 and I have backed this at a very attractive price.

I wasn't aware that you were specifically inquiring what position I think they would finish at the end of the season. I think with a fully fit squad, they are capable of finishing w/in the top 8.

I stand corrected. I've said this earlier today, outside of CHE, I don't think anyone expected them to do as well as they have with the transfer ban.

Least of all me ( my son is a Chelsea fan and goes to most games ). I thought initially that Lampard was a bad appointment but looks like I was wrong. Great to see him playing the younger players and granted along the way they will get some hammerings. However Lampard seems to be tactically way better than I thought he would be - OGS is the complete opposite and his squad and team selection is dreadful. If Lampard had been at Man U I would be pretty confident that Greenwood would have had quite a few starts under his belt by now. Club in turmoil.
