Budget defenders the real winners of Watford’s draw with Bournemouth

Watford 0-0 Bournemouth

Goals: None

Assists: None

Bonus Points: Ben Foster x3 (£4.8m), Nathan Aké x2 (£4.9m), Craig Cathcart x1 (£4.4m), Aaron Ramsdale x1 (£4.5m)

Watford and Bournemouth played out a lively 0-0 draw at Vicarage Road that saw the home side extend their winless run to ten games.

Fantasy Premier League managers may also be increasingly concerned about the Cherries’ recent goal drought.

However, there does appear to have been a significant improvement for both Watford and Bournemouth in defence, offering up some potentially viable budget options.

Wilson has now blanked in three consecutive matches

Eddie Howe’s side have now failed to score in three consecutive league games as the early-season form of Callum Wilson (£8.0m) continues to feel a long time ago.

The England international delivered attacking returns in each of the first seven Gameweeks of 2019/20 but has now blanked in the last three – two of those favourable meetings with Norwich and Watford.

Wilson’s striking partner Josh King (£6.3m), who was benched for Gameweek 9, was restored to the starting line-up but looked a shadow of his former self too.

The former Blackburn Rovers man, who has scored two goals and registered three assists so far this season, now has just two attacking returns since Gameweek 6.

Fraser was relatively lively but could not carve a breakthrough for his side

Ryan Fraser (£7.1m) and Arnaut Danjuma (£5.8m), making his first league start of the campaign, did their best to add some width to the 4-4-2 formation but could not serve up the goods.

Howe stated his concern post-match at his side’s lack of goals in recent weeks.

“Keeping a clean sheet away from home is positive, but having our third game without scoring is certainly a negative. We don’t normally struggle to score but today at least we did not struggle to create chances.” – Eddie Howe

Bournemouth now have a testing run of fixtures over the next seven Gameweeks, in which they face four of last season’s top-six.

Whether Wilson and King can be considered worthy of investment after having blanked against relegation candidates Norwich and Watford remains to be seen.

Next week’s clash against Manchester United could be a make-or-break occasion for those managers in ownership of either of the Cherries’ attacking duo.

Rico went close to getting more attacking returns for Bournemouth but did pick up a yellow card for his troubles

Perhaps Fantasy managers should start turning their attention to the other end of Bournemouth’s squad as they kept a second successive clean sheet in Gameweek 10.

This highlights, in particular, the value of Diego Rico (£4.2m), who impressed against Watford and could have added to his attacking returns, as he continues to share corner-taking duties with Fraser.

The left-back unleashed a powerful shot from distance in the first half, forcing a save out of Ben Foster (£4.8m).

Gerard Deulofeu was paired with Roberto Pereyra in a two-man strike-force

It must be said though that Bournemouth were helped in this latest clean sheet by a continued lack of cutting edge from Watford.

The Hornets should have arguably gone in front after Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.7m) missed a golden opportunity to assert an early level of control over the visitors.

Quique Sanches Flores’ side continued to look lively throughout the afternoon’s fixture, with Gerard Deulofeu (£6.1m) striking the post directly from a corner too.

This was the sixth time this season that Watford have failed to score in the league this season, with their five goals scored the joint-lowest of any team in the division, level with Newcastle.

Janmaat’s price and attacking station are worth monitoring

Despite the Hornets’ lack of goals, Flores can take solace in the fact his side are seemingly displaying an increased sense of defensive resilience following their humbling at the hands of Manchester City last month.

Since that 8-0 demolition, Watford have conceded just three goals in four games, suggesting that some of their defensive options, many of whom have depreciated in price, could be worth considering.

Another promising performance from Daryl Janmaat (£4.3m) in the right wing-back position of Flores’ 3-5-2 system should keep him on our Watchlists for now.

Adam Masina (£4.3m) was deployed on the left but may lose his place to Jose Holebas (£4.7m) when he returns from suspension.

The manager confirmed he was pleased with his side’s defensive performance:

“We had our chances, we did not concede goals and we had a good team spirit and this is really good for the future. Defending well is a good base, but I can feel when we are on the opposition’s box the players are still a little bit nervous and they can sometimes take bad decisions. I think the first win is getting closer, the difference with the other teams is not so big and I’m really confident for the future.” – Quique Sanchez Flores

Watford’s injury woes continued right from the off against Bournemouth. Tom Cleverley (£4.9m) was forced to leave the pitch after just 10 minutes with a suspected ankle problem, Will Hughes (£5.5m) replacing him.

Fantasy interest in Cleverley is unlikely to be high but Hughes might be worthy of monitoring given his potential for attacking returns in the past.

Watford XI (3-5-2): Foster; Kabasele, Dawson, Cathcart; Masina (Foulquier 73′) Chalobah (Gray 57′) Cleverley (Hughes 10′), Doucouré, Janmaat; Pereyra, Deulofeu.

Bournemouth XI (4-4-2): Ramsdale; Rico, Aké, S Cook, Smith; Danjuma (H.Wilson 64′) Billing, Lerma, Fraser; J King, C Wilson (Solanke 74′).

I am going to stick with Dilva as only City.

Other than Dilva, least I know that each and every player in my current team will start, including my bench apart from Button.

Confident Dilva will play most matches in the EPL.

Doesn't really matter who City are playing for attacking players.

The worry is more that Southampton go all out to park the bus and not concede so could be a narrow win and not the goal fest being predicted. Watford have only conceded 3 goals in 4 games since their 8-0 hammering.

      For these who have wildcardet:

They have probably a good team and team value of 104+ mill. This will help them getting the right players and better team rest of the season. And an advantage and even better team value than the ones who have saved their WC and still only have a team value of about 100 mill.

For those used TC and FH, think it’s A bit early and that the chances of more points lays in the dgws in the 2nd half of the season.

My sob story from this GW was that I was stuck in horrendous traffic on the M6 from Birmingham to Manchester on Friday afternoon. A 2 hour journey took me 5 hours and I missed the FPL deadline.

My planned transfer was Kane > Vardy.

Oh well, if Kane can get one goal (maybe a penalty) it will soften the blow somewhat.

The time changes have NO impact on the price changes, I.e before the clocks went back the changes were around 2:30.
Last night I decided to set an alarm for 2:15 to make early changes according to price changes, only to discover they had already changed, presumably around 1:30!

Yes - owners (including me) have been fortunate.

BUT there attack is still better than a lot of other teams. Plus they are probably more efficient than a lot of other teams (e.g. Arsenal). Outside of City, Liverpool and Chelsea they look the next best team, particularly with their fixtures. Given their assets (like Chelsea's) are priced quite attractively it makes sense to get some Leicester IMO.

It's a question of whether his end of season form last year, and this one game where my dead gran would have scored are reflective of his true level. I've Vardy already so am not opposed to doubling up in Leicester attack. I see myself as having 10 of my outfield players from Citeh, Pool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester and United (the probable Top 6 teams), and then Lundstram Til I Die and 2 floating picks (Wilson and Rico currently).

Of my midfielders I can surrender James or Ceballos for a Leicester player and not feel like I'm taking a step down (I wouldn't of course, it would certainly be a step up)

There was a definite adaption period required - if he has in fact came though it he’ll break the game between now & Christmas & will get to 7.0 easy enough

Even If it was just a freak/flash in the pan, he had 2 returns in 3 prior to the 9-0 so could easily tick

6.0 just looks too good to be true

(He’s going to be a massive trap isn’t he)

Yarm is amazing, might even be my captain next week. If he had better team mates then the last few gameweeks he would have had like 3/4 assist each game..

Chelsea have won 6 or 7 in a row, Willian started them all. Lamps said he was their best player last week, goal and assist this week.

I wouldn’t say he’s the opposite of nailed.

Fantastic form of late, but two other wingers pushing for minutes means there's very good completion now.

Feeling brave, or stupid, and considering a -12 just to get sterling in

    Heaton to gazzaninga
Ota to Kelly (taa, Rob, lund, Rico)
Cho to sterling (Salah, kdb, mount, cant)
    Wilson to Connelly (vardy, Abraham)

Or I save which is highly likely also

I took -8 to get CHO for GW10, which means I'm selling CHO soon...

But still somehow got massive green arrows and the bench players I brought in were Connolly and Janmaat for Wilson and Tomori, leaving funds for Soy to Robbo. Would go CHO to Grealish in GW12

It might fail in isolation, but work out long term if it fixes issues in your team. That's how I view hits and wildcards

Seems to have worked out well for you, so good luck to you! I'm actually fearful that the players I take out will score and my -12 could end up way more. I don't expect sterling to cover it in one game, but long term, possibly

I am going triple Pool all season.

I still am in to minds whether to do

    A. TAA Salah Mane

    Or

    B. TAA Salah Firmino

I am on A at the moment but B feels more balanced.

Will see how today goes and look at changing GW11 if need be.

I'm not a fan of Firmino fpl wise so I like A better. Maybe this season he can get near that 200 point mark which is what you want from him.

On a side note: I'm thinking of doing A as well for gameweek 14. My team structure makes it really difficult to have both TAA and Robbo.

Except No LEI cover and obvious Otamendi/Digne issue, rest if team is as I would have wanted...I can probably keep digne and replace Ota with a 5.6mn max defender. My options
    1) Otamendi to Maguire/Bissaka/Matip/Chillwell For free
    2) Otamendi + Digne + Jiminez/Cantwell --> Soyuncu + Rico + Vardy/Madisson (-8)
Naturally I would want Vardy but removing Jiminez just seems wrong with great matches ahead
    3) Play WC

I mean trust me, I’m very anti-stats, I saw a post earlier claiming to justify Maupay as someone who was ‘goals imminent’ but come on, it was a penalty, that was pretty dodgy anyway.

Not going well .. this is my problem stat - "Captain Points as % of Overall Score : 18.6%"

Got my highest captain score since GW1 .... but it was for KDB's 12 points, not Vardy's 40 points

            949k 510pts

Not happy at all. Highest I’ve been is 412k.

Was c. 40k OR this time last season and never dropped below 200k, finishing at just outside 50k.

Not sure why it’s so bad this year but I’ve taken 2 x -8pt hits and a -4 which haven’t all worked out and a couple of times made early kneejerk moves so maybe it’s that. Overall though team has always looked good on paper so just very very frustrating

We pretty much switched places this week! Well done on the Vardy pick!

I think my frustration is I’ve found myself taking decisions more swayed by the crowds on here than my own gut this season. Not good!

Mo Salah is a huge differential in my ML. Only 3 from 15 own him. 20% thats low. Rest own Mane, and i’m one of the 3.

I looove that mentality! Salah has been the GOAT of fantasy EPL the past 2 seasons and his stats still swarm the selfish Senegalese. His ownership is now less than Mane.. Fu*k yeah!

Look at Bournemouth. Clean sheets against Norwich and Watford. Also couldn’t score against them! That’s woeful. Liverpool and City will come to the fore

Dunno about City. Their defense is decimated. Villa could have had a goal easily yesterday.

Pool as well. I think honestly, last season's defensive solidness from Pool was a one-off. Klopp's system leaves them open to counter attacks and even though they'll still win, they'll concede the odd goal.

I don't know what jokes you are talking about but a joke is a joke at the end of the day and you should not get offended by such things.

Today's world is a tough place for comedians as it is hard to make a joke without someone being offended now.Personally i am a fan of dark humor and even though these kind of things can touch some nerves it can also help people to have a laugh which is very important.

unfunny, insensitive and plenty more can be said but ultimately the words "mass shooter" should not be used, imho, in such a loose and carefree manner, given the dark side to those two words the results from it.
