Jota returns to the Wolves starting XI as injured Boly misses out

The first of four Premier League matches to take place this Sunday kicks off at 14:00 GMT, with Wolverhampton Wanderers the visitors to Newcastle United.

With the three remaining Gameweek 10 fixtures taking place later this afternoon, our sole focus is on the game at St. James’ Park.

Wolves come into this match on a four-match unbeaten run in the top flight and having defeated Slovan Bratislava 2-1 on Thursday evening.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI shows three changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Southampton last weekend, with two of the alterations enforced.

Willy Boly (£5.0m) and Ryan Bennett (£4.9m) are both sidelined through injury, with their places at centre-half being taken by the recalled Matt Doherty (£6.0m) and the fit-again Romain Saiss (£4.4m).

Wolves’ head of medical, Phil Hayward, said yesterday:

Unfortunately, Willy Boly sustained a serious injury to his left ankle in training earlier today.

Initial tests show a fracture to his fibula, and he will undergo further imaging over the coming days to determine whether surgery is required or not. If surgery is required that will take place during the next week.

Ryan Bennett is recovering well from his adductor injury. He has now started outdoor rehab and he will return to training in the coming days.

The ever-present Raul Jimenez (£7.2m) is joined in a front two by the returning Diogo Jota (£6.1m), who makes Santo’s starting XI for the first time since Gameweek 6.

Patrick Cutrone (£5.7m) makes way.

The Newcastle team news is more straightforward, with Federico Fernandez (£4.4m) replacing the injured Fabian Schar (£5.0m) in Steve Bruce’s only change from Gameweek 9.

Andy Carroll (£5.4m) misses out because of a minor groin issue, while Isaac Hayden (£4.4m) serves the final match of a three-game ban.

Jimenez was the third-most-bought forward of Gameweek 10, having been recruited by just over 118,000 Fantasy Premier League managers.

The Mexican striker’s ownership has now passed the 10% mark, with Rui Patricio (£5.2m) the only player on show on Tyneside who sits in more FPL squads.

Jota’s ownership has gone the other way, having suffered nine consecutive net transfer losses and four price drops since Gameweek 1.

The Portuguese forward is now in differential territory, with an ownership of just 3.3%.

Jamaal Lascelles (£4.4m) and Joelinton (£5.8m) are the only Newcastle players in action this afternoon who are owned by more than 1% of FPL managers.

No Premier League ground has seen fewer goals (four in four matches) than St. James’ Park this season, with the Magpies’ having kept back-to-back clean sheets on home soil.

Only Liverpool have conceded fewer away goals than Wolves this season, meanwhile.

Newcastle United XI (5-4-1): Dùbravka; Yedlin, Fernández, Lascelles, Clark, Willems; Almirón, M. Longstaff, S. Longstaff, Saint-Maximin; Joelinton.

Wolves XI (3-5-2): Patricio; Doherty, Coady, Saiss; Adama, Dendoncker, Moutinho, Neves, Jonny; Jimenez, Jota.

Schar was back on my radar after an international match recently. Then he got injured. Glad I didn't pull that trigger. He'll rarely keep a clean sheet but he knows where the net is.
