Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 11 Captain Poll

Manchester City players are expected to do battle for the Fantasy Premier League captaincy again this week.

You can now vote in the latest poll either below or in the sidebar of the website.

After dominating the debate for Saturday’s meeting with Aston Villa, Pep Guardiola’s men now get to host a Southampton side who conceded nine times to Leicester on Friday night.

As we explained in great detail in our Scout Notes of that match, that scoreline was heavily influenced by some of the worst defending the Premier League has ever seen.

If Ralph Hasenhüttl is unable to stop the rot, as we saw him fail to achieve even at half-time on Friday night, then Manchester City options could post some blistering scores in Gameweek 11.

Can Sterling escape the pitfalls of Pep Roulette this weekend?

The only issue, as ever, is picking the right one to captain, especially considering the usual rotation problems.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) appears to be the runaway favourite thus far after he scored 11 points against Aston Villa.

Prior to Gameweek 10, the England international had just one league goal between Gameweeks 4 and 9 but in his last five matches in all competitions for club and country he has rediscovered the golden touch.

Since England’s 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic on October 11, Sterling has scored six times.

Whether or not Sterling suffers from Guardiola’s rotation roulette in Gameweek 11 probably remains up in the air though.

He has now started all three of Manchester City’s matches in all competitions since the last international break, registering 255 minutes from a possible 270 during that period.

Furthermore, alternatives in Sterling’s positions have had their fair share of rests in recent matches, which could seem them slot in.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m) has not had any involvement in either of the last two Premier League matches, so could be fresh and ready to go, while Bernardo Silva (£7.9m) was given the night off for the Champions League.

De Bruyne should be considered a reliable source of points – especially against Southampton

By contrast, Kevin de Bruyne (£10.2m) feels like a more assured starting figure given how Guardiola has managed his minutes of late.

Since returning from injury in Gameweek 9, the Belgian has played 90 minutes just once (against Crystal Palace), registering 67 minutes against Atalanta and 75 against Aston Villa.

De Bruyne continues to offer relative consistency when it comes to attacking returns.

His assist against Aston Villa was his 12th involvement in a Manchester City league goal this season, from 11 appearances.

Those who watched the win at Crystal Palace know that he was unlucky not to come away with any attacking points either.

Not surprisingly, de Bruyne remains top of the league for key passes in 2019/20, so his chances of delivering against Southampton look good.

Aguero may still form part of the captaincy debate for Gameweek 11

Despite another no-show in Gameweek 10, Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) should probably remain a factor in the captaincy debate.

If he looks like starting against Southampton then a double-figure score is a distinct possibility.

Across his last four Premier League starts, Aguero has been particularly busy in the penalty box and showed a return to his ruthless streak against Atalanta.

Even Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) may be considered by some brave folk on the back of three attacking returns since Gameweek 7.

Those even braver managers looking past Manchester City’s appealing fixture might consider the Liverpool options in Gameweek 11.

A trip to Aston Villa could still prove fruitful to Jurgen Klopp’s men considering their record against the top-six since returning to the Premier League.

In three such matches this season, Dean Smith’s side have conceded three times on every occasion.

Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) and Sadio Mané (£11.8m) may then join the captaincy debate in some small way, although we do expect the latest poll to be overrun with Manchester City options.

You can vote in the poll below and also watch our latest video on YouTube.

Auba Abraham Vardy trio for the November December period?

Now I now Auba has disapointed so far, but he still has his best fix incoming. So I guess no one wants to sell just before he comes good...

The thing is I also want Jimenez...

I’d rather be a bit late to the Auba party than get him now after several blanks & Laca just returning.

Definitely will be monitoring him though

Dont like Auba in FPL. He's expensive and too many 6/7's. Much prefer explosive options. Rather have Vardy and Abraham, then Mane, KDB, Salah/Sterling.

Pulisic was originally RW with CHO expected to be LW, but given Pulisic has been killing it at LW CHO has been trialled on the other side. Think Frank is trying to find the best way to play both, would expect Willian to be pushed out of the starting 11 eventually, though he could come central.

Willian never plays as a number 10. He offers so much more on the wings.

Willian was outstanding vs Burnley though. And frank said he's been their best player. He is an experienced player leading an inexperienced attack and I think the Rw spot is his. Time will tell though.

His off the ball work is excellent, which Frank highly rates, but will be surely phased out to accommodate the two better attackers. Pulisic and CHO both need to develop in the defensive phase, but once they do I see zero reason to continue playing Willian.

Willian always plays RW & with the level of his performances this season, the reason he'll be out of the team short term will only be to get a breather. With time, Pulisic & CHO will start getting regular outings on the wings.

CHO always has started on the left side & is also more effective in that position. Never been trialled on the right. The issue with him is he can't seem to make the right decisions with the ball at his feet. I still feel it's his position to lose.

But Pulisic is more comfortable playing at either wing, than both of them. So I'm expecting more starts for him, given his recent showing.

        3 players, 2 positions.

"Never been trialled on the right" he was played there Vs Ajax when Pulisic came on. Played there nearly every game last season because Hazard had the left.

Left is his better / preferred side and Pulisic was initially on the right, but it's not impossible for them to switch.

          1. Slitherene
            • 6 Years
            4 years, 5 months ago

Yes, never been trialled on the right by Lampard. When Pulisic came on he was shifted to the right, just to make way for him. So it was Pulisic's trial more than CHO's.

I still remember him struggling to cut in and shoot from the right last season, as Hazard was irreplaceable on the left.
And there were matches when he played LW and performed well, when Hazard wasn't in the first 11.

I don't expect CHO to start on the right, if Willian doesn't play. If he does, it'll be similar to playing Sterling on the right. Lots of trickery, but no end result.

    Okay I've a couple of questions :

    1) Anyone keeping Pukki for his run of fixtures?
    2) a defense with TAA, Soyuncu, Janmaat, Rico, Lundstram is too weak?
    3) Which do you prefer : Janmaat/Ayew or Tomori/Connolley

      1) Sold ages ago and not even a pang of regret.
      2) Yes, a bit too weak. But Janmaat > Pool DF & it’s a decent enough DF.
      3) The second one

Anyone risking just one city attacker after this game/soon?

Tricky sell right now - but with Martial and others offering some interesting risk/reward and city offering less captaincy appeal, I'm wondering. A good example would be a transfer scenario I'm looking at shortly, is it better to go...
Sterling and Connolly - or risk two more balanced attackers, say Martial and Firmino/Lacazette.

Connolly great value clearly, but is he one or two sub par performances away from making sub 30 min cameos again i wonder?

Ayew has great fixtures coming up in a few weeks for .5m more and would seem to be a safer punt.

    A) Martial Lascelles Lundstram (Rico Connolly) Play 352
    B) Jimenez Soyuncy Tomori (Lundstram Dendon) Play 343

B looks more balanced, A more punty with a really cheap defence but the way this season is going...

In a similar boat myself, think I'm just going to avoid him and hope that his returns dry up. So far he has scored 9 goals from 12 shots on target, and 5 of his goals have come against 10 men, so doesnt seem sustainable

Vardy is a bit of a stat buster though, but agree with the 10 men thing

I have no Sterling but the rest and will buy a new big sofa this weekend, unless he's starting mid week's Cup ...

I'm in a similar situation. Have contemplated going Sterling or Mane to Martial with Wilson to Vardy and money itb.

I’d hold off for another week. Vardy won’t get another hatty this week and no way I’d be selling my City assets to get him in until after Southampton game.

2 fts and I'm becoming restless with Wilson. Think I may need to move this week which will rule out me getting Vardy for a little while...

As a Sterling non-owner - Saturday has the potential to get hugely uncomfortable - a quadruple return wouldn't surprise anyone... with captaincy that is absolute annihilation unless Mo somehow overcomes the ankle knack to double/treble return away to villa

It's *almost* hit-worthy - but his schedule post-Southampton and Pep's ever spinning roulette wheel do temper things ever so slightly:

    ata(CL), liv, MON(IB), kos(IB), CHE, SHA(CL), new, bur, MAN, zag(CL), ars, CC(QF), LEI, wol

Captain someone with equal potential - I'm thinking Mané (C)

Wait for Mo news. You might have your hand forced by injury. And it might end up being a blessing in disguise as you can captain Sterling for his inevitable hatty

    A,B or C?

    a) Auba>> Kane (-4)
    b) Auba>> Rash/Jimmy (-4) and get enough money to upgrade Cantwell in next GW
    c) keep

    0.4 ITB

    Gazzaniga
    Lunds, TAA, Chilwell
    KDB (C), Mane, Martial, Mount
    Auba, Tammy, Vardy

Well at least put Lund before Rico on the bench. Rico is up against Man Utd, Lundstram against Burnley. You will probably get Lund or Rico in anyways for Ota.

Yep Lund is first, didnt write them in order!

            Think Ota will play though..

I'm surprised that Sterling isn't higher on the poll. If he's rested midweek, it's a complete slam dunk. Southampton also have shown a clear weakness down their right (opponents' left) which is where Sterling plays.

This is not the week to get cute. Just captain Sterling.

Valery pushing too far forward thinking he's TAA, if he doesn't learn his lesson after the 9-0 Sterling owners will be laughing.

Crazy how Pukki outscores Tammy in the next 6 games in the RMT tool.

I wouldnt pay too much attention to it. Often seen crazy numbers on there, eg suspended/injured players projected to do well...

Will the tough fixture run of City decrease the appeal of theit assests?

I imagine so. Especially defensive assets and captaincy choices. Although City are quite fixture proof.

Really grasping at straws here. What you reckon do these moves? Or should I just burn a transfer.

Maddison and Mane to Tielemans and Salah
    Or
Connolly and Maddison to jiminez and dendocker.

    0.0ITB and 2FT

    Pope
    TAA. Lundstram. Tomori.
    Sterling. KDB. Mount. Maddison. Mané.
    Abraham. Vardy.

    McGovern. Connolly. Soyuncu. Rico.

I see where you're coming from, great team and hard to make any possible improvements without using the 2FTs.
