Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 11 Captain Poll

Manchester City players are expected to do battle for the Fantasy Premier League captaincy again this week.

You can now vote in the latest poll either below or in the sidebar of the website.

After dominating the debate for Saturday’s meeting with Aston Villa, Pep Guardiola’s men now get to host a Southampton side who conceded nine times to Leicester on Friday night.

As we explained in great detail in our Scout Notes of that match, that scoreline was heavily influenced by some of the worst defending the Premier League has ever seen.

If Ralph Hasenhüttl is unable to stop the rot, as we saw him fail to achieve even at half-time on Friday night, then Manchester City options could post some blistering scores in Gameweek 11.

Can Sterling escape the pitfalls of Pep Roulette this weekend?

The only issue, as ever, is picking the right one to captain, especially considering the usual rotation problems.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) appears to be the runaway favourite thus far after he scored 11 points against Aston Villa.

Prior to Gameweek 10, the England international had just one league goal between Gameweeks 4 and 9 but in his last five matches in all competitions for club and country he has rediscovered the golden touch.

Since England’s 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic on October 11, Sterling has scored six times.

Whether or not Sterling suffers from Guardiola’s rotation roulette in Gameweek 11 probably remains up in the air though.

He has now started all three of Manchester City’s matches in all competitions since the last international break, registering 255 minutes from a possible 270 during that period.

Furthermore, alternatives in Sterling’s positions have had their fair share of rests in recent matches, which could seem them slot in.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m) has not had any involvement in either of the last two Premier League matches, so could be fresh and ready to go, while Bernardo Silva (£7.9m) was given the night off for the Champions League.

De Bruyne should be considered a reliable source of points – especially against Southampton

By contrast, Kevin de Bruyne (£10.2m) feels like a more assured starting figure given how Guardiola has managed his minutes of late.

Since returning from injury in Gameweek 9, the Belgian has played 90 minutes just once (against Crystal Palace), registering 67 minutes against Atalanta and 75 against Aston Villa.

De Bruyne continues to offer relative consistency when it comes to attacking returns.

His assist against Aston Villa was his 12th involvement in a Manchester City league goal this season, from 11 appearances.

Those who watched the win at Crystal Palace know that he was unlucky not to come away with any attacking points either.

Not surprisingly, de Bruyne remains top of the league for key passes in 2019/20, so his chances of delivering against Southampton look good.

Aguero may still form part of the captaincy debate for Gameweek 11

Despite another no-show in Gameweek 10, Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) should probably remain a factor in the captaincy debate.

If he looks like starting against Southampton then a double-figure score is a distinct possibility.

Across his last four Premier League starts, Aguero has been particularly busy in the penalty box and showed a return to his ruthless streak against Atalanta.

Even Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) may be considered by some brave folk on the back of three attacking returns since Gameweek 7.

Those even braver managers looking past Manchester City’s appealing fixture might consider the Liverpool options in Gameweek 11.

A trip to Aston Villa could still prove fruitful to Jurgen Klopp’s men considering their record against the top-six since returning to the Premier League.

In three such matches this season, Dean Smith’s side have conceded three times on every occasion.

Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) and Sadio Mané (£11.8m) may then join the captaincy debate in some small way, although we do expect the latest poll to be overrun with Manchester City options.

Who would you get to complete the Pool triple up after the City game?
    (Already have Salah and TAA)

    A. Mane
    B. Robbo (provided VVD is fit)

The Double up you have already might be sufficient.

But Robbo if you insist on tripling up.

Only way is to downgrade a couple players. I’d need to raise 2.2m as a minimum to get Robinson.

Doing virtually the same move (TAA instead) but without the hit. I think Villa will score. Only blanked once at home this season. So I don’t think it’s worth it for a hit.

Think I’m gunna take my first hit of the season to change from 3-4-3 to 3-5-2.

Donk & Wilson > Martial & Connolly (bench option)

Liking those moves. Connolly is a strong bench option, and I don’t really care if he ends up losing his spot eventually. And Martial is an exciting OOP differential at this point. Happy to be early to that party.

Are United’s fixtures as easy as they appear?

Bournemouth have tightened up a bit.
    Brighton are decent defensively too.
    Sheffield been strong defensively also.
    Villa - dunno
    Spurs, hard to predict.
    City away.

I ask because strongly considering Martial from next week

The problem this season has been inconsistency across the board. This makes it really hard to predict fixture difficulty. That being said, if fit, Martial is probably the best option.

There are no easy fixtures. Just less difficult ones i think. If i could get martial in i would, until he breaks down, at which point his price is good to replace him with someone else. Ole under pressure and is desparate for goals after their poor showing in recent weeks, so i feel he will be looking to martial to help stop the rot

    3. thegaffer82
      • 12 Years
      4 years, 5 months ago

No, not as easy as they appear at first glance.

Utd struggle to break down any team that doesn’t attack them.

But, in the case of Martial, I’d say he’s worth the punt for sure. 7.5mil for Utd striker is brilliant value, with 5 points for a goal and cleanies bonus point.

      I’m buying for sure

      1. Top Lad Dakes.
        • 7 Years
        4 years, 5 months ago

Thanks all, I’m thinking the same - harder than at first glance but Martial still a decent punt.

See below as to what I should do? Assume you’d be picking between B and C

    4. Maddamotha
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 5 months ago

I am doing this with Vardys fixture, trying to convince myself to get Martial over him lol. But Bournemouth and Brighton are two good fixtures, especially with Brighton at home. Bournemouth will probably attack at a home and leave space for United. Sheffield is a hard one, Villa is a great one.

Team drowning at 1.8m OR. 2FT 0.2 ITB. Would you do Wilson to:

    A) Jimenez - boring/simple pick that could be good but Wolves iffy
    B) Connolly - play this week, roll FT to likely bring Martial in but can reassess
    C) Greenwood, and Dendo to Martial THIS week w/ both FT, going all in on M

Struggling. In B Connolly would become a sub in 352 GW12 onwards if I do end up going Martial. Would like to save FT if possible, as also planning Vardy in for Kun week after this.

I'm thinking of doing C myself, although I already have Jimenez

Cheers for replies both. My others strikers are Tammy and Kun (Kun likely to be Vardy soon I think).

Would you ditch Tammy for Jimenez if he blanks again and Jimenez looks alright? I have Mount (team linked)

This I think. Were dead solid end of last season with Gueye, and looked decent with Gbamin before his injury. Getting run through now

Got to admit, I’m reluctant having been burned by him in previous seasons...

I think hes a great call. If you look at pools last 5 fixtures, they were of the tougher variety. Fixtures due to turn now. Not explosive but should return regularly. And pretty nailed.

Maddison & Wilson > Perez & Vardy for free? Too kneejerky?

The Perez move is knee jerky yes. But Vardy is potentially a season keeper.

      Martial instead of Perez?

Rashford/Martial, probably depends on who wins the penalty or who is having the confidence that moment..I think Rashford will take more..

Have a feeling Ota won’t play so your dilemma will be sorted for you.

I’d bench Tomori, and then wait for him to be subbed in after Ota no-show

Template (which is another way of saying very strong).

If you do Guendouzi > Donk (perma bench spot 3) can you afford Robbo > TAA?

      If so, I’d do that

Chambers was a cheap way into what should be an improving Arsenal defense. Any thoughts on other options?

I like Guendouzi too. Connolly is cheap and he should play. I lost 0.2m hanging on to Greenwood way past his sell-by date, waiting for Ole to do the obvious and play him.

I keep thinking Arsenal will improve defensively but it never seems to happen. Personally, I would look at a player fro a team who can keep a clean sheet (Wolves, Burnley, Shef, Brighton even Newcastle) someone who can get the odd attacking return. Willems/Montora a good example

A is interesting if not necessarily a good idea. If either of the two had guaranteed game time I would go for it. For every Citeh player you have make sure you have a bencher just in case.

Team stats, defending, shots from Set Plays conceded but doesn’t really tell the whole story. Off the top of my head the worst teams at defending set pieces are Everton, Arsenal and Watford

Sat on my hands for long enough.
Not really a RMT, more of rate my tactic.

    Pope, Button
TAA Lund Soy Kelly Rico (Common choices saves bench money the most efficient way)
KDB Sterling Dilva Martial Mount (One of the 3 Citeh always likely to miss a game, hence the strong bench) (No Pool mids my gamble)
Jimi Firmino Abraham (Top 8 attackers; will be miffed if all play or cameos come into play) pool cover cheapest option.
