Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 11 Captain Poll

Manchester City players are expected to do battle for the Fantasy Premier League captaincy again this week.

You can now vote in the latest poll either below or in the sidebar of the website.

After dominating the debate for Saturday’s meeting with Aston Villa, Pep Guardiola’s men now get to host a Southampton side who conceded nine times to Leicester on Friday night.

As we explained in great detail in our Scout Notes of that match, that scoreline was heavily influenced by some of the worst defending the Premier League has ever seen.

If Ralph Hasenhüttl is unable to stop the rot, as we saw him fail to achieve even at half-time on Friday night, then Manchester City options could post some blistering scores in Gameweek 11.

Can Sterling escape the pitfalls of Pep Roulette this weekend?

The only issue, as ever, is picking the right one to captain, especially considering the usual rotation problems.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) appears to be the runaway favourite thus far after he scored 11 points against Aston Villa.

Prior to Gameweek 10, the England international had just one league goal between Gameweeks 4 and 9 but in his last five matches in all competitions for club and country he has rediscovered the golden touch.

Since England’s 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic on October 11, Sterling has scored six times.

Whether or not Sterling suffers from Guardiola’s rotation roulette in Gameweek 11 probably remains up in the air though.

He has now started all three of Manchester City’s matches in all competitions since the last international break, registering 255 minutes from a possible 270 during that period.

Furthermore, alternatives in Sterling’s positions have had their fair share of rests in recent matches, which could seem them slot in.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m) has not had any involvement in either of the last two Premier League matches, so could be fresh and ready to go, while Bernardo Silva (£7.9m) was given the night off for the Champions League.

De Bruyne should be considered a reliable source of points – especially against Southampton

By contrast, Kevin de Bruyne (£10.2m) feels like a more assured starting figure given how Guardiola has managed his minutes of late.

Since returning from injury in Gameweek 9, the Belgian has played 90 minutes just once (against Crystal Palace), registering 67 minutes against Atalanta and 75 against Aston Villa.

De Bruyne continues to offer relative consistency when it comes to attacking returns.

His assist against Aston Villa was his 12th involvement in a Manchester City league goal this season, from 11 appearances.

Those who watched the win at Crystal Palace know that he was unlucky not to come away with any attacking points either.

Not surprisingly, de Bruyne remains top of the league for key passes in 2019/20, so his chances of delivering against Southampton look good.

Aguero may still form part of the captaincy debate for Gameweek 11

Despite another no-show in Gameweek 10, Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) should probably remain a factor in the captaincy debate.

If he looks like starting against Southampton then a double-figure score is a distinct possibility.

Across his last four Premier League starts, Aguero has been particularly busy in the penalty box and showed a return to his ruthless streak against Atalanta.

Even Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) may be considered by some brave folk on the back of three attacking returns since Gameweek 7.

Those even braver managers looking past Manchester City’s appealing fixture might consider the Liverpool options in Gameweek 11.

A trip to Aston Villa could still prove fruitful to Jurgen Klopp’s men considering their record against the top-six since returning to the Premier League.

In three such matches this season, Dean Smith’s side have conceded three times on every occasion.

Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) and Sadio Mané (£11.8m) may then join the captaincy debate in some small way, although we do expect the latest poll to be overrun with Manchester City options.

The Martial hype is on overload here. Undoubtedly a good option but United will struggle to break down teams at home imo, like Brighton and Sheff United coming up.
If you can easily get him in, he seems a good option but I'd be wary of taking hits or getting rid of players you don't really want to.

Martial is a good player, playing OOP for a top 6/7 team and for a measly price of 7.5m. If not for his injuries, he is an easy season keeper for me.

Agreed re. not taking hits. But he's potential the best value option in the game when fit.

Nailed on, OOP, good fixtures, good player and finisher for one of the 'big teams.

Finisher yes but first and foremost you need to create chances. I don't think United do that enough except on the counter. They can't break teams down without Pogba.

(United fan btw if that means something)

Looking at a Wilson replacement. (Vardy and Connolly my other strikers)

Abraham is the obvious one but is there a case for Jimenez? Abraham has Watford and Palace next up. Watford tightened up considerably recently and Palace are no pushovers. Jimenez up against Arsenal and Villa in that timeframe. 2 defences that are allowing chances.

    Thoughts?

Jimenez is a good pick but it's hard to ignore Chelsea attack or even double Chelsea attack atm.

Chelsea are playing free flowing football and that midfield is soo good with short passes and breaking up plays. They just scored FOUR away to Burnley, Watford can't keep them out for sure. Abraham is still a good option and cheaper/highly owned too. I will go with him imo.

Am an Arsenal fan but I can see Jiminez scoring against us. Wolves are not push overs and he is their best player this season, on pens. The EL is the one which makes me still think I rather invest elsewhere.

My concern is that Abraham is due some rotation with Bats knocking on the door. He never sees to last 90mins and despite the assist this week, and doesn't seem the type of player to pick up many. Getting him in is no doubt the safe (and boring) move.

Agree on EL being a concern for Wolves. I started the season with Jota and was stung. Looking at next 3 league games, only EL tie to a weak opposition however. Hmmmm

    Morning lads

Looking for advice on my 2 FT (0.1m ITB)

    Pope Button
    TAA Otamendi* Soyuncu Rico Lundstram
    Salah Sterling Mahrez* Mount Cantwell
    Abraham Haller* Pukki*

The flagged players are the ones I think i need to move on. Thoughts on which 2/3 to prioritize?

I'm thinking it's going to be very hard to ditch Mahrez or Otamendi this week given the fixture but don't want them away to Liverpool next week. Could always bring in KDB for Mahrez though by downgrading Pukki to Connolly

How many of us Kun owners do we think will still be holding tonight?

I don’t know what I’m expecting to see that will give me any degree of certainty over him playing vs SOU.

Beyond Pep saying “I will of course be playing Aguero on Saturday” (which he won’t), tonight is going to do little more than lull us into a false sense of security!

However even the sniff of a Kun glory points haul is too much to resist!

If he plays in the cup surely that's Jesus again at the weekend?

Either way, if you hold would you risk captaincy? That would annoy me not being able to captain him vs Southampton (unless I had KDB or Sterling I guess)

I am keeping for the Southampton game. Lost a lot in the last 2, but taking him out now and then he starts and scores 2/3 against Southampton will be nail on the coffin to my team this season.

Any thoughts on the below please?

    Ryan
    Soyuncu, Tomori, Lundstram,
    Sterling, KDB, Mane, Cantwell
    Auba, Tammy, Jimenez
    Button, Lowton, Dendoncker, Rico
    £1.4m ITB, 1 FT

    A) Auba -> Aguero
    B) Auba + Cantwell -> Vardy + Martial (-4pts)
    C) Auba + Cantwell -> Vardy + David Silva (-4pts)

I'm leaning towards B but, as a very depressed Saints fan, I think triple Man City ahead of this weekend is potentially a nice emotional hedge!!

      Bless your heart ahah.

Aguero doing my nut in. I’m keeping one more week I think but don’t think I’d bring him in. I’d like to see another good week from Martial. I think C looks your best option, than DSilva to Martial next week if he looks good again?

  23. Top Lad Dakes.

Stuck between 2 potential options here, w/ 2FT 0.2 ITB:
    A) Wilson to Connolly (play this week), bring Martial in next GW switch to 352
    B) Wilson to Jimenez

Both rolling 1FT this week. Will likely also do Aguero to Vardy next GW

    Pope (McGovern)
    TAA Soyuncu Lundstram (Rico Kelly)
    Mane KDB Mount Maddison (Dendoncker)
    Aguero(c) Abraham Wilson*

Help appreciated 🙂 was thinking simply A but leaning towards B

A is good. Norwich next and he may at least keep his place for 1 more gameweek with Trossard now back in the picture. B is a bit longer term.

      1. Top Lad Dakes.
        • 7 Years
        4 years, 5 months ago

B seems the safer choice but I do like the look of A. Gives me another week to assess Martial, and as you say Connolly could lose his spot but really I’m only gonna be playing him this week given the 352 for a bit from then on

        1. ZeBestee
          • 9 Years
          4 years, 5 months ago

Yeah, due to my last 2 horrendous gw's with Kun (C), and dropping in OR a million + places, I brought in Maupay for 1 gw, also brought in Martial to catch up with his good form early on. I haven't been pro active this season so far, am trying to change that now. That said, Connoly is good to have for next gameweek, and who knows, could hold his place for longer maybe, but Jiminez is longer term.

We have always similar squads, i'm in the same boat.
Thinking about martial too, but have to use both FT for him this weekend. I think A is better.
