Pulisic a high risk pick with potential for high reward

The unpredictability of Fantasy Premier League in 2019/20 continues to baffle many of us in the game.

Each passing Gameweek brings more and more differentials to light as the tried and tested options largely fail to deliver.

Gameweek 10 started with Southampton conceding nine at home and ended in ghoulishly bizarre fashion with Tim Krul (£4.5m) registering 16 points, despite conceding three goals.

We also saw three hat-tricks being scored, two of which were by players owned by 5% or less.

A shout out must also go to this column’s picks as we saw a clean sweep of Fantasy returns in Gameweek 10, Marcos Alonso (£6.3m), Youri Tielemans (£6.5m) and Benjamin Mendy (£5.9m) all delivering.

Let’s hope for some more luck this time around. Here are three differentials to consider for Gameweek 11.

Christian Pulisic

Pulisic ran the show for Chelsea as they won 4-2 at Burnley

Price: £7.2m

Ownership: 4.4%

GW11 Opponent: Watford (A)

It may be somewhat of a risky recommendation to tip a player that has only made four league starts this season but Christian Pulisic (£7.2m) clearly has talent.

Since making his debut for Chelsea, the United States international has at times looked jaded and arguably not played to his very best.

That’s not surprising, especially when his pre-season was interrupted with Pulisic featuring in all of his country’s knock out games during the CONCACAF Gold Cup over the summer.

This may partly explain why it’s taken him longer to adapt to life in the Premier League.

However, among all midfielders in Gameweek 10, he had the joint-fifth most touches in the penalty box (nine) and the joint-second most amount of goal attempts (five).

With plenty of creativity to boot, he completely ran the show against Burnley and was comfortably the best player on the pitch, hat-trick aside.

That was a remarkable turnaround for a player that had only scored 18 FPL points before last Saturday.

Pulisic has done more than enough to warrant another Premier League start in Gameweek 11 when Chelsea face Watford.

On average, the Hornets have conceded 2.1 goals per game since the start of the season and have largely struggled against top-six sides.

Quique Sanchez Flores may have finally stopped the rot at Vicarage Road, with back-to-back home clean sheets, but I think they will struggle against a free-scoring Chelsea team inspired by a determined Pulisic.

Anthony Martial

Martial is slowly coming back into the Fantasy picture

Price: £7.6m

Ownership: 4.8%

GW11 Opponent: Bournemouth (A)

At the start of the season, Anthony Martial‘s (£7.6m) out-of-position status seemed too good to be true.

FPL managers had been handed a midfielder from a top-six club, priced under £8.0m and playing as a centre forward.

Martial then duly delivered Fantasy returns in each of the first three Gameweeks of 2019/20, before injury ruled him out of the next six in a row.

However, the French international finally returned to the starting line-up against Norwich – celebrating that fact with a goal.

Of course, Martial did also missed a penalty, but it’s good to know that he has become a viable option again with United’s run of generous fixtures.

During the 3-1 win at Carrow Road, Martial had more touches in the final third (33) than Pulisic did at Burnley and received more passes in the opposition half (23) than Mohamed Salah.

This strong involvement for United bodes well for him and, provided he stays fit, he should retain his place as a first-team player, whether that’s playing out wide or straight through the centre.

United next face a Bournemouth side that has improved defensively in recent weeks. After going the first eight league matches without a clean sheet, the Cherries have kept two back-to-back against Norwich and Watford.

However, Manchester United, despite some criticism of their attack of late, have six goals in their last three matches in all competitions and have scored eight times in their three previous meetings with Bournemouth.

Therefore, I would not be surprised if this match was also marked by another attacking display.

Sébastien Haller

Haller deserves a chance against Newcastle in Gameweek 11

Price: £7.4m

Ownership: 4.8%

GW11 Opponent: Newcastle United (H)

It might seem hard to justify a player that has only scored one goal in his last six league games.

There is no doubt that the early stages of a bandwagon were being formed when Sébastien Haller (£7.4m) scored three goals in two games.

Yet despite his lack of goals, he remains West Ham’s second-highest FPL points’ scorer (41) for the season and for a player within his price bracket that seems fairly respectable when considering that Raúl Jiménez has 43 points and Ashley Barnes has 36 points.

It may sound cliché but I think there is still more to come from Haller.

He is currently averaging an attacking fantasy return for every 162 mins played which doesn’t seem unreasonable for someone during his debut campaign for a mid-table side.

No doubt this could have been better had he not missed two big chances since Gameweek 1 as well.

Up next for the Hammers at the London Stadium are a Newcastle United team that currently reside in the relegation zone.

It’s just the kind of match that Haller needs for his confidence. After all, two of his last goals have come at home and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s able to unlock the Magpies defence and get back to scoring ways.

I recall Potter said something about the need to manage Trossard's minutes as he comes back from injury, which may bode well for Connolly starting. Also, I got the impression that it was Alazate's place under threat from Trossard rather than Connolly. I really need him to play for me, just this week, before I revert to 3-5-2 from next week.

Right then. CHO, Tierney to Martial, Willems? For this gw:

    Hendo
    TAA Perreira Lund
    KDB Mount Martial Mane
    Vardy Abraham Wilson
    (Button, Willems, Rico, Longstaff)

Still feel Tierney could be good in 12-15, maybe downgrade Wilson instead but not sure who I like

KDB is a valid (c) this week, you can't have them all, there's a lot of managers out there without Salah/Sterling (or ManCity/Liverpool even) etc doing great, we're making them essential in our heads, they're not.

Good if you think Firm will start scoring again

      Tough. Formation currently? Flexible?

Player for player I'd prefer TAA, but Firminho is probably a top 4 striker, price considered, going forward from gw 13. If you going TAA leaves you with a rigid 442 or 541/532/352 formation, I'd probably go Firminho instead, with the rotational value currently on offer with LEI/Che/but//new/wol/Sheffield/CP fixtures.

How's the rest of the team?

Thx for response ! This is my team

        Heaton
        Ota-Diop-Lunds
        Sterling-KdB-Maddison-Mount
        Abraham-Pukki-Auba

        Button-Soy-Tomori-Nakamba

        I will play 3-4-3

Have plan to sell Sterling and Ota next week for Martial and TAA for a hit

That plan might quickly change. City has an Xg of 29 so far, the two closest teams are Liverpool and Chelsea on 19 and 18, respectively.

With the current team, I think you should await striker transfers until gw 13 (maybe Jimenez for Pukki if you're keen for a gw 12 punt that has great fixtures coming up, but use the weekend to assess). Currently, I think Firm or Vardy are your best bets, but Lacazette is lethal too in that price bracket, unfortunately he's less of a bap magnet.

Team is good. Can't you do Maddison-Martial, Ota/Diop to Rico, they have a good fixture when Chelsea faces City so you'll always have 3 to play at the back.

To be honest, there are a number of routes you can go.

The players I rate the least on your team after this gw: Diop, Ota, Maddison, Pukki, Auba (due to liquidity bind-up). Really not a bad place to be.

    Torn between Rico or Webster.
And even more important: bench Kane, Maddison or Mount?

Webster. You have too many good attacking players if you need to bench one of those

Maddison, and Rico to save money.

I would play Webster and bench Maddison and then would think about where did I go wrong and had to choose between those 3 to bench.

Is it worthwhile to use a WC to move on 2 players (no FTs), when I don't intend on using the WC otherwise? I'm inclined to say yes... but happy to hear input.

No. You may feel you don’t intend on using it but there could come a time you may be forced into it with injuries etc. Always handy to have for a later date.

Mmmm, I have 2. It resets at the turn of the year. I'll have to ponder. Some Arsenal news is showing Ceballos and Saka might not play at all this weekend, although I did expect that Xhaka would be dropped.

Still have 2 months before wildcard expires, right? Using a WC for 2 moves seems not worth it. I'd say try to hold onto WC unless you really want to make these moves right now, and don't want to spread them out.

I'm also in the nice position of not currently seeing a need to play my wildcard anytime soon, but things can change so quickly. They would have to be 2 mind-blowing transfers for me to use up my wildcard on them.

Ceballos and Saka to Tielemans and Jorginho...

Those are actually my planned GW12 & GW13 moves, but facing the option of them being forced further down the pecking order I feel like I should burn a resource for greater earning potential. That's not to say that my first 2 subs are bad, James and Robertson, but those are players I don't want in the XI this week for a reason. I have hours yet anyway... any decision I make will be resolved before tonight's price moves.

Must have such a low TV. Most getting Connolly in order to get a good 5th mid soon. Can’t afford anymore then 5mil on a 5th mid. Suppose I got in Abraham and Cantwell late.

Could Lacazette be the greatest differential over the next 6 weeks?

Great fixtures, no international duty, playing no 9 for an attack-minded team.

Which one would you go? Seems wrong to transfer away Pool guys as there's a massive fixture swing in 2 gws.

Otamendi > Lascelles and play Lundstram ahead of Lascelles.

roll the other if your confident with CHO.

Maybe Pukki > Jimenez next week.

Hmm, I like that. Not too confident with CHO. Could actually upgrade him to Mount or Leicester MID even after Lascelles move. That could be good.

yeh that transfer gives you 1.2 to upgrade CHO.
          Tielamans would be my pick

Prefer Tielemans over Maddison? I would have exact funds for him after Lascelles move.

I like them both but Tielemans is 0.8m cheaper .
Money you could use to upgrade Pukki later.
