Captaincy fails for over two-thirds of top 10k Fantasy managers

Manchester City’s unexpectedly narrow 2-1 win over Southampton came at a cost for a large chunk of the top 10,000 managers in Fantasy Premier League.

Between them, Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£10.2m) were handed the armband by almost 70% of the FPL bosses who were inside the top 10k at the point of the Gameweek 11 deadline.

The premium midfield pair duly blanked against the Saints, with Sterling picking up a booking to compound his owners’ misery.

Just under 6.5% of this elite group had more joy with a Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) captaincy, at least, while around one in four top 10k managers overlooked the City trio altogether.

The highest-owned player inside the top 10,000 is Jamie Vardy (£9.3m).

The Leicester City striker, who faces Crystal Palace on Sunday, featured in only 33.25% of top 10k squads ahead of the Gameweek 10 fixtures but his 20-point haul against Southampton has understandably increased his popularity.

Of course, a fair number of the new entrants inside the top 10,000 would have been helped there by owning Vardy in the first place.

The Foxes’ forward was by some distance the most-bought FPL asset of Gameweek 11, being transferred in by just over 675,000 managers.

De Bruyne remains in one in three top 10k squads, with Tammy Abraham (£7.8m) and John Lundstram (£4.7m) – both of whom delivered double-digit hauls on Saturday – also widely owned assets.

Mohamed Salah‘s (£12.4m) popularity continues to dwindle, with just over one in four top 10,000 managers hanging onto the Egyptian.

Indeed, Salah doesn’t feature in the top 10k Wildcard template, with Sadio Mane (£11.9m) proving a much more popular buy.

A two-man strike force of Vardy and Abraham is being widely favoured, with budget asset Aaron Connolly (£4.6m) the third-most-popular FPL forward among the elite managers who used their Wildcard this week.

There is predictably a lot of crossover between the template Wildcards inside the top 10k and outside of it, with Salah and Andrew Robertson (£6.9m) proving more popular in the chasing pack.

We have now hit the 50% mark for Wildcard usage in the top 10k.

One in four of the top 10,000 FPL managers have already used their Triple Captain chips, with the Free Hit and Bench Boost chips not as heavily relied on.

Chip usage inside the top 10k

Just under 33% of the top 10,000 have yet to use a single chip but over 25% have used at least two already.

2.2% of the top 10k have maxed out on their allotted chips already, leaving only their second Wildcard to be used.

          Lol that’s an annoying one. From what I’ve seen this season you have to sort your problems out quickly or you get stuck behind, you’re going well keep it up. I’d look elsewhere than Chelsea defence first though have a look around and see what you think at that price. Willems has amazing fixtures and is playing like a left winger

    Not actually sure what to do here other than I feel Kun and Boly should go...

    1FT 0.4itb
    Pope, McGovern
    TAA, Lunds, Willems, Rico, Boly*
    Mané, KDB, Mount, Barnes, Dendo
    Kun*, Vardy, Abraham

    Potential options:
    Kun, Dendo, Boly >
    A) Jimi, Martial, Robbo
    B) Jimi, Dilva, Robbo
    C) Mousset, Sterling, Soy/ Tomori

    I could do any of the above with only 2 moves for a -4, but they have to involve Kun out to fund or just Kun out and save other moves...?!

    Any advice appreciated!

        I do agree. The issues I have with it are:
        1. Huge benching headache. Who would you bench from a front 8 of:
        Mané, KDB, Mount, Martial, Barnes
        Jimi, Vardy, Tammy

            Would you still prefer A) or the alternative of Firmino, Martial, Tomori/ Soy?

      Mane and Traore but mostly because it involves Mane.

      Yep. Having a mare and a torrid start

      Managed to scrape it from 2 mil > 400k in 4 weeks though

      There's still hope, many are similar and it's topsy-turvy every week

      Has to go? !!! ???

      For one week you say?

      So what then you get him back the next week?

      Calm down. If anything I'd sell Sterling with the upcoming fixtures much balanced in pools favour

    Currently stuck with Wilson, Pukki and CHO and only 1 FT. Who should I prioritize shipping out?

      Id keep CHO as he's had a rest and you might get lucky with a start in that nice fixture

      CHO as he's not nailed like the others.

      Give Pukki & Wilson Watford at home & Newcastle away.

        I would ideally like to, but I don't think a -8 would be worth it. Perhaps a -4 might be worthwhile

    Looking at bringing in Saiss for Otamendi. What’s the extent of Billy’s injury?

    Early thoughts on what to do with this messy mess:

    Ryan, Button
    TAA, Digne, Lunny, Rico, Robbo
    KDB, Hayden, McGinn, CHO, Raz
    Tammy, Vardy, Cwilson?

    2 FT, 1.3m ITB

    Thanks in advance!

    Is anybody defo getting rid of sterling next week, as long as nothing else crops up? And for whom? Thinking Salah but maybe Son. Possibly even right down to tielemans and pulisic.

      I was going to bring in Salah for Sterling, but after last night, probably not, his form has been average and now he doesnt look fit.

    Hoping to capitalise on some transfer movement. Moved a player on after the final game. Feeling like it could be a +0.2 move ultimately.

    Jorginho for McTominay. Thoughts, questions?

    Hendo Button

    KDB Mount Mane Martial CHO
    Tammy Vardy Connolly

    Thinking no GK for GW13 a main problem as of now

    2 free transfers and might keep Pukki again this week:

    a. Wilson + Cantwell -> Vardy + Hayden
    b. Wilson + Salah -> Vardy + Mane
    c. something else

    Heaton
    TAA, Lundstram, Rico
    Salah, Sterling, KDB, Hudson-Odoi
    Pukki, Wilson, Abraham

    McGovern, Tomori, Cantwell, Reid, 1.1 million in the bank

    2FT, 1.4 itb with the below team

    Pope
    TAA Ota Tomori Soy Lund
    Sterling KDB Mount Cantwell 4.6
    Auba Tammy Wilson

    Always planned to get a Liverpool attacker for this GW

    Options
    1) Sterling -> Salah/Mane and bank a FT
    2) Sterling+Ota -> Robbo+Mane
    3) Sterling+Ota+Wilson -> Robbo+Jimmy+Salah/Mane (-4)

    Currently leaning towards 3) with Salah... feel Salah and Mané tend to alternate and it’s Salah’s turn now (bit silly logic, but Salah has the set pieces and has better stats, higher xG, etc)

    Also Jimmy has fixtures and form and Wilson has been a troll whose fixtures dip after the next 2
