Captaincy fails for over two-thirds of top 10k Fantasy managers

Manchester City’s unexpectedly narrow 2-1 win over Southampton came at a cost for a large chunk of the top 10,000 managers in Fantasy Premier League.

Between them, Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£10.2m) were handed the armband by almost 70% of the FPL bosses who were inside the top 10k at the point of the Gameweek 11 deadline.

The premium midfield pair duly blanked against the Saints, with Sterling picking up a booking to compound his owners’ misery.

Just under 6.5% of this elite group had more joy with a Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) captaincy, at least, while around one in four top 10k managers overlooked the City trio altogether.

The highest-owned player inside the top 10,000 is Jamie Vardy (£9.3m).

The Leicester City striker, who faces Crystal Palace on Sunday, featured in only 33.25% of top 10k squads ahead of the Gameweek 10 fixtures but his 20-point haul against Southampton has understandably increased his popularity.

Of course, a fair number of the new entrants inside the top 10,000 would have been helped there by owning Vardy in the first place.

The Foxes’ forward was by some distance the most-bought FPL asset of Gameweek 11, being transferred in by just over 675,000 managers.

De Bruyne remains in one in three top 10k squads, with Tammy Abraham (£7.8m) and John Lundstram (£4.7m) – both of whom delivered double-digit hauls on Saturday – also widely owned assets.

Mohamed Salah‘s (£12.4m) popularity continues to dwindle, with just over one in four top 10,000 managers hanging onto the Egyptian.

Indeed, Salah doesn’t feature in the top 10k Wildcard template, with Sadio Mane (£11.9m) proving a much more popular buy.

A two-man strike force of Vardy and Abraham is being widely favoured, with budget asset Aaron Connolly (£4.6m) the third-most-popular FPL forward among the elite managers who used their Wildcard this week.

There is predictably a lot of crossover between the template Wildcards inside the top 10k and outside of it, with Salah and Andrew Robertson (£6.9m) proving more popular in the chasing pack.

We have now hit the 50% mark for Wildcard usage in the top 10k.

One in four of the top 10,000 FPL managers have already used their Triple Captain chips, with the Free Hit and Bench Boost chips not as heavily relied on.

Chip usage inside the top 10k

Just under 33% of the top 10,000 have yet to use a single chip but over 25% have used at least two already.

2.2% of the top 10k have maxed out on their allotted chips already, leaving only their second Wildcard to be used.

Right right. Here's the thing... Kun is my favourite fpl player of all time but I've never owned him this season and I believe I'm justified in that decision. If I owned him I'd keep but I would only own with my heart not my head

Agreed. My favourite too but I didn't pick him at the start due to uncertainty of game time. Got him in on wildcard in week 4 when Jesus was injured.

No matter the Pep roulette story, I can never pull the trigger and transfer him out. Did it once a couple of years ago and had to watch him get a 20 pointer against Watford. Was gutting.

Evening guys... with a below average score all but secured for this week, was wondering if you think I should go ahead now with these semi-planned moves as my 2 FT.

    Heaton (Button)
    TAA Robbo Soy Rico (Lowton)
    Salah Sterling KDB CHO (Cantwell)
    Abraham C.Wilson (4.5m)

    Sterling, Robbo > Mane, Lundstram.

Now I'm aware the two moves could almost seem like downgrades, so hear me out. I definitely want double LIV attack going into their run of favourable fixtures & would have to shift Robbo to do so. The moves also free up enough funds to get Vardy for Wilson next GW & possibly Cantwell to Barnes/McNeil. What do you think?

The sterling question is a tough one. I think he’s the best FPL asset in the game but he’s been very unlucky. Then again how unlucky can you be before it becomes just plain poor. I don’t envy not owning him but I’m terrified of not owning him

I'm finding it hard to drop him for Mane, Salah fitness concerns me a lot and I'm not comfortable to cap him while it's the case

Sterling was in far more lively positions today in and around the box and he is also fit. The tough fixtures for city might not be a bad thing as teams that sit back aren't great for Sterling

He wasn't fit at the start of the season so was being eased in and rotated a lot because of EL, I think Nuno has realised their best performances come when both him and Traore are playing on the right side so I'd say he's nailed.

Went off injured today. Slowly eased back into team start of season due to returning from injury then too. Then Traore started playing incredibly and kept him out for a couple games until Nuno found a way to play them both together. Worked really well for them it seems I think a good pick but see how his injury goes

What to do here? Im totally lost.. 2 FTs 1,7 ITB

    Pope ( Button )
    Aurier-Tomori-Guillbert ( Söyncu, Lundstram )
    Sterling-Mount-Mane-KDB ( Cantwell )
    Vardy-Jimi-Tammy

I would love to do 2 FTs next GW to get 1 or 2 pool players in (Aurier->TAA atleast).. maybe downgrade Cantwell?

Jim outscores Kun next week but Kun outscores him over the two after another hatty vs Chelsea.

    A: Salah
    B: Sterling

(While also holding Mané + TAA + KDB from Liverpool/Man City, and wildcard intact)

David Silva isn't injured is he? Just a tactical swap Silva for Jesus at half time?

I wonder this too. Can not find any info.

He tends to drop him for the big games, and City have a bunch of them coming up so wonder if the move is to stick or twist.

Why was Cantwell benched? Has he lost his spot?

    1. The Ejiptian King

He was rubbish last game and Hernandez scored when he came on, I think he's lost his place for the moment.

Wasn't fully fit but was expected to lose his spot anyway. His replacement played poorly, but only made it to the stadium last minute after the birth of his daughter, so would be harsh to drop him off the back of that

How did Delofeu look today? Worthy of a punt for his great run of fixtures? On pens now? Not much else in that beacket. Had some great stats earlier in the season but seem to have cooled off a bit.

Not much going on, lucky peno today and Watford are dead last in the PL with 5 points

      better punts
