Leicester unchanged as FPL managers lump on the Foxes’ in-form players

Four of the five most-bought Fantasy Premier League assets of Gameweek 11 were Leicester City players, with over one million transfers alone used on Jamie Vardy (£9.4m) and Youri Tielemans (£6.5m).

Ayoze Perez (£6.1m) and Ben Chilwell (£5.6m) were part of this popular quartet, with the Foxes by some distance the most in-demand team in the Fantasy community following their 9-0 win over Southampton.

Almost 1.9 million transfers were spent on Leicester players in the eight days between the Gameweek 10 and 11 deadlines.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are in action this afternoon, in the first of two Premier League fixtures to take place on Sunday.

The Foxes are the visitors to Selhurst Park, where Crystal Palace have been a tough nut to crack this season.

The Eagles’ total of three clean sheets and three goals conceded in home league games can’t be bettered by any other top-flight club in 2019/20.

Rodgers’ troops, of course, come into this game off the back of plundering nine goals at St. Mary’s but before that rout of Southampton, they had only scored on four occasions in as many league fixtures on the road.

A run of away games against Chelsea, Sheffield United, Manchester United and Liverpool can perhaps partly explain that and, more encouragingly, Leicester have won all five of their league meetings – home and away – against clubs who finished outside of last season’s top seven.

Vardy has himself banked 11 attacking returns in those five fixtures against the “also-rans” of the Premier League.

In the least surprising team news of Gameweek 11, Leicester are unchanged from the starting XI that hammered Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side just over a week ago.

Roy Hodgson has made two alterations, one of which is enforced.

The injured Andros Townsend‘s (£5.6m) place has been filled by Jeffrey Schlupp (£5.5m), while the fit-again Vicente Guaita (£5.0m) is back between the posts after a brief two-game stint for Wayne Hennessey (£4.4m).

Martin Kelly (£4.1m), by some distance the most-owned Palace player and still in one in four FPL squads, is only among the substitutes.

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita, Ward, Tomkins, Cahill, van Aanholt, Zaha, Kouyate, Milivojevic, McArthur, Schlupp, Ayew.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel, Chilwell, Evans, Soyuncu, Pereira, Ndidi, Tielemans, Maddison, Barnes, Vardy, Perez.

Not just that one game. They have been boring and piss poor all season - and last two months of the previous under the same manager - except vs Chelsea twice and Norwich. Two teams that allow them to play the only game they are good at - sitting back and counter attacking in deep spaces

But some of the worst teams in PL history can provide excellent FPL assets?

Even at that - Check out utd’s records with & without Martial (Pre-Bournemouth)

                  Without martial

You can focus on the one anomaly which has been discussed or the other 5 games he has started this season where he has got a goal or assist in each. I’m a non owner and looking to get him in this week and even captain

Yeah I think it does in this case - the Chelsea match would have taken a lot out of them, and combined with the conditions it really isn’t the best sample to use to write off an FPL asset

I agree the conditions played a part, but not the time scale. United have played midweek games for years they have a squad capable of dealing with it.
They are just quite poor overall as a team right now.
Martial has OOP in his favour, but there are still better players in better teams available at the same price.

I think the timescale definitely has to be acknowledged tbh, because it was combined with the conditions

It’s about as far away from an ideal environment to showcase attacking intent as you can get

To dismiss Martial after that game with “lol” or “puke inducing” really does just look like going off the deep end

Yeah probably, although I think the guy said doubling up with Rashford was ‘puke inducing’, given how few goals United score, and considering how many penalties they get, I can understand the comment.

If United hit some form, he’s a good option, but when you’ve got the likes of Chelsea and Leicester already in good form, why punt on Tony M?

Do they do as badly with Martial though? The “with” & “without” above suggests anything but - which is one of the “why”’s fulfilled in terms of taking the punt...

The Belgrade turnaround I just wouldn’t really see as relevant at all tbh, given the opposition... but even taking that as an example — Utd had 4 starters playing vs Belgrade... compared to 8 vs Chelsea...

The other “why”’s that spring to mind are Martial’s price & position which are looking pretty enticing given his ability (his fitness is the big question mark)

And of course Martial and Chelsea/Leicester aren’t mutually exclusive - OP already seems to have nearly 50% of his attacking slots filled with Chelsea & Leicester 🙂

United have been very poor for a good few months now, since the initial OGS Manager bounce.

Martial price and OOP are enticing I agree, but he’s missing the most important element of form.

I have Mount and Maddison as my mid range midfielders, and I’m quite happy with them.

I agree that they are all better picks than Martial - Willian Pulisic Maddison Barnes, even Tielemans, David Silva,...

Don’t think anyone would disagree Utd have been poor, but even relegated teams have been excellent sources of FPL talent so I don’t see their (non-Martial) form as being hugely, or even mildly, relevant to dismissing Martial - which is why the comment stood out

I too have Mount and Maddison, they’re not mutually exclusive to Martial 😉

True. But thanks to Lundstram, Rico, and a host of 4.4/4.5 value defenders, and no essential premium forwards, I doubt many of us need a third mid priced midfielder.

No midprice players are “needed” though, by definition - there’s such a wide range to choose from

Martial has as much (some would say more) going for him being an (extremely talented) out of position centre forward getting FPL points as a midfielder as many within that range of midprice midfielders

Especially when you scratch a little deeper and look at utd’s form with him in the side, look at the turnaround hey had to navigate prior to Saturday mornings game, the conditions it was played in, and their upcoming fixtures etc

As such, to be so dismissive of him just stood out like a sore thumb 😉

It’s all very speculative. Utd are poor, to a point that their players are less interesting FPL wise than Chelsea’s and Leicester’s. Just to name two teams whose players are in a similar price range

See numbers above though - they’re generally anything but poor with Martial?

And again, he’s not buying the Utd team, or even a share in their defence - he’s buying an OOP #9 for 7.5?

Early thoughts on what to do with 2ft here, thinking a mini WC and change my attackers who have tough fixtures. Think Salah needs to go.

      Pope
      TAA Robbo Digne Lundstram
      Salah Sterling KDB Mount
      Haller Maupay

      Button Rico Saka Greenwood

      A) Salah, Haller to Mane, Abraham

      B) Salah, Haller, Saka to Son, Jimenez, Maddison -4

      C) Salah, Haller to Son, Vardy

      D) Salah, Haller, Maupay to Maddison, Vardy, Tammy -4

Potentially. 2FT 3.5m ITB currently. Eyeing Kun to Vardy so that gives a huge 6.2m ITB. Can then upgrade a few from Dendo/Connolly/Maddison/Kelly/Soyuncu.

Loads of options, with players like Robbo Son Jimenez Martial G/McG coming into thinking - obviously can't get all. Will likely play either 343 if i get Jim, 352 otherwise

Grealish is the better player and he's playing in a more advance position than he was before, but McGinn is a shoot on sight player. Greedy bar steward like Son.

Did my Transfers on Tuesday b4 price rises, Auba CHO > Mane Jimenez so pretty pleased with that. After doing this I posted a g2g thing with my team https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2019/10/31/why-ive-sold-james-maddison-just-two-weeks-after-my-wildcard/?hc_page=2&hc_sort_by=comment_date#hc_comment_21098497 . I always will check my team on a Friday night to make sure everything's correct but I was so busy with work Friday and got to sleep so late I ended up not being able to. By the time I woke up Saturday the deadline had been and gone... First off the Sterling TC had been locked in (was still deciding on this one) but I was like hey maybe it'll pay off (Nvm i guess…). Secondly Ota-bloody-mendi was starting with Lundstram on the bench. I'm absolutely fuming with this game I can never catch a break. Check the link, I literally called it that Ota would ruin me if I started him so that's why i was benching him and then never actually did it...! FFS 🙁

"U’re probably right about Ota but I don’t want to risk a 1 point cameo, don’t reckon he’ll start anyways." Was what I said on Tuesday on the reasoning as to why I'm benching him. I hate this game so much sometimes and I only have myself to blame...
