Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 12 Captain Poll

Fantasy Premier League managers are faced with another tough captaincy decision as Gameweek 12 creeps up on us.

You can now vote in the latest poll (below or in the sidebar), while Joe and David have published a captaincy video on our YouTube channel.

With yet another Friday Night Deadline reducing the turnaround time this week, Manchester City and Liverpool options have largely been taken off the table for the captaincy.

That’s because the two title-hopefuls meet at Anfield on Sunday afternoon and such clashes can often be very off-putting to Fantasy managers.

The meeting of Liverpool and Manchester City could cause problems for the Gameweek 12 captaincy

Manchester City have had some defensive wobbles this season but remain joint-top for clean sheets in the Premier League thus far, level with Sheffield United on five.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are top of the league for points won at home in 2019/20, having won all five matches at Anfield thus far.

Something may have to give there, but predicting would be quite difficult.

Conversely, Liverpool are still yet to record a clean sheet in front of their own fans this season which could leave Manchester City with plenty of chances to break them down.

However, Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) and Kevin de Bruyne (£10.2m) have both blanked in two of their last five Premier League outings… so can they be trusted in a tough to call fixture?

These questions will be running through a few minds, but we expect most of the Fantasy community to look beyond Anfield this weekend.

Vardy has been in tremendous goal-scoring form of late

The ongoing scoring form of Jamie Vardy (£9.4m) is sure to attract plenty of attention.

He has 18 goals in the 20 Premier League matches since Brendan Rodgers took over at Leicester and has blanked just once since Gameweek 7.

This weekend he and his colleagues play host to an Arsenal side that is not exactly in a good place right now.

Amid rifts between the supporters, the manager and his chosen captain Granit Xhaka (£5.2m), now is a good time to face the Gunners.

Vardy himself loves playing Arsenal, scoring eight goals in his last eight league starts against them.

Abraham could be considered for the captaincy this weekend

Some Fantasy managers are turning to Chelsea for Gameweek 12 as they welcome Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge.

Tammy Abraham (£7.9m) is likely to be the most captained Chelsea option after his 12-point score in Gameweek 11.

However, it will be interesting to see how many will be put off by his superior record away from home this season.

Abraham has 11 attacking returns so far this season but only two of them have been registered at Stamford Bridge.

That said, it must be said that the former Aston Villa loanee has been somewhat unfortunate in front of his own fans so far.

Raúl Jiménez (£7.2m) has also been tipped as an outside bet for the Gameweek 12 captaincy.

The Mexican international has four attacking returns in as many Premier League appearances, while Aston Villa come to Molineux having proved rather obliging at the back this season.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 11

Which of Pukki or Wilson should I remove for a hit? The other one will be kept for 1 more gw because I don't think taking a -8 would be worth it

I have enough money itb to get Abraham for either (already have Vardy)

Was the Son RC decision VAR'ed ??

If yes the overturning makes zero sense IMO. Contradicting the VAR results 😕

Given the circumstances sorrounding the injury, VAR decision may have been taken in the context of what happened and they probably got it wrong because of the big injury to Gomez.

Yeah, they are human beings and the injury may have swung the decision to Son red card. Things have calm down now and they have accepted it was wrong dismissal and have rescinded it.

I thought so at first, but I don’t think it was.
The referee seemed to upgrade the yellow to a red once he saw the severity of the injury.
VAR should have overturned it there and then, but didn’t

        Exactly point.
It's not like when clubs appeal they do a long hearing. Decision must have been taken quickly as it is obvious most of the times once we watch the incidence 2/3 times

With his ankle hanging off his leg I think in the heat of the moment the ref made a decision to send son off

It was the wrong decision but if you are referring a game and see that you would be pulling out the red too

Maybe you don’t realise that although Son obviously wouldn’t wish that injury, the foul was not an accident but a deliberate hack in retribution for what he perceived as an elbow from Gomes shortly before

He turned his back on it and it hit him behind the ear just below the helmet. Most now have a protective extension that has been added to cover that area but many still don’t. Steve Smith wasn’t wearing one when he took one in a similar area recently. He does now

Manchester City's sea of lovely fixtures is coming to an end.
They have 3 away games in the next 5. Chelsea and Man United visit the Etihad as well as trips to Anfield, The Sports Direct Arena and Turf Moor to come.

What is everyone doing with their City assets? We all know that Liverpool and City don't really have 'tough' fixtures, we expect them to win every game in front of them, but with rotation on the cards, City struggling to really hammer "lesser" opposition, and perhaps a focus on Champions League success.... is anyone considering moving on some of their assets?

    Aguero:

+ Started and scored against Southampton
    - Only two starts in the last 5 games

    Sterling:

    + In amazing form...
    - ... but this isn't translating into many FPL returns
    - 1 yellow away from a ban

    De Bruyne

+ 3rd highest scorer in the game
+ Likely to have a lot of value tied up in him
    - Possibly playing a deeper role with Fernandinho at CB and Rodri out

    The defence:

+ Joint most clean sheets in the league
    - Defence feels a bit makeshift and Pep not afraid to rotate whomever and whenever he feels like it

and then there's players like the Silva's, Mahrez....

Selling? Keeping? Looking to buy more of their assets? Interested to know what your plans are!

Personally, for my own team, Sterling -> Mané makes a lot of sense and this is the move I'm looking to make.

Mané has better form, better fixtures, is unlikely to be rotated due to the CL, and Sterling is likely to miss a game in the near future when he picks up that yellow card.

If I had Aguero, I'd be very worried - Jiminez, Vardy, Abraham looks such a solid forward line going forward I'd be tempted to drop him for the one out of this bunch that I didn't own.

As for the defence, clean sheets looks unlikely - but Mendy is still a great option if he starts. He'd be the only one I'd be considering holding on to.

I think if like me you haven't got mane or Salah then selling a city mid is an easy route to get to them... I agree though, city did thrash chelsea 6-0 last year so the difficulty of fixture is out the window if they are on their game.

I think I will have zero in a few GWs time and I'm not too scared, those fixtures don't scream of any demolition jobs to me. Sold KDB, likely doing Sterling > Salah, Cancelo > Chilwell. Want to profit on Liverpool's amazing fixtures.

I can get to Mane without selling KDB or Sterling (selling Aubameyang instead) so my plan is to hold both City midfielders for now (and still have Vardy, Tammy, Mount, TAA etc)

Got KDB in at 9.5, will definitely want him back when fixtures improve in GW18 for the Xmas/New Years fixture rush. So will then be losing 0.4 value.

Sterling isn’t performing, but he’s got a 20 point haul him in any fixture (despite the correct Lundstram love after this week, it’s not going to be every week). So being patient with Raheem.

Ive gone early with 2fts. Dilva to Madd and Kun to Vardy. Dilva out made easier by the injury.

Leicester form and fixtures hard to ignore now. No Vardy could be a rank killer, and my rank is already unwell.

Leaves me with Sterling who I still think is worth keeping especially once Mendy returns to lineup. That CL form will surely apply to Prem soon and I think from Peps comments he is the best anti-rotation guy of a bad bunch.

Contemplating short term transfer of KDB to Martial, but not spending the excess, and getting Kdb back in a few weeks time for all of the reasons you mentioned Az. Alternatively could invest those funds from CHO (5ft midfielder) to pulisic if he continues to blossom

Much in the same way many were lamenting the the end of the two premium defenders but not long after were insisting a Pool double up was needed, we'll be seeing a need for three Citizens shortly.
Aguero getting moved on I can understand given the number of form strikers, but selling either midfielder would result in money in the bank in the short term and a middle 5 requiring a hit should the need to reacquire Sterling or KdB later prove necessary.
A long old few sentences those.

I'll keep my three, Mendy the other, and trust that quality endures even when facing a tough fixture. 3-5-2 my GW12 formation currently.

Had two players - keeping KDB and already transfered out Aguero. KDB for me is a season keeper. Got rid of Kun because of Pep's rotation, not because of the fixture swing. Is he was nailed I would have definitely kept him.

Used the money to bring Mane in joining Salah and TAA for Liverpool's nice run. Did Aguero, Yarmo, Mount > Jimenez, Mane, Barnes for a hit.

own KDB and Rodri soon back, in training and ib so i´ll keep him but City does not usually score big away and fixtures are not bad but tricky, and christmas is particularly hard for City in terms of schedule so mass rotation on the cards.

keeping sterling for owners could be rewarding because if he hauls now bigger gain. Chelsea game after ib looks like goal flurry but two away games vs New and BUR they usually struggle a bit, United seems to be at least pretty tight defensively and better when opposition attacks.

Personally I can't see it's time to sell KDB or Sterling. KDB should never be sold, great value season-keeper who will steadily return points. Sterling's class will translate to hauls soon and at 38% owned, it's going to hurt when it does. In addition, there is in my view less pressure to double up on Pool defence for two reasons; 1) They are keeping far fewer clean sheets this year and 2) We have the gift of Lundy, Rico, Soy, Janmaat, Guilbert etc to name a few cheap defs who are returning similar for better value.

For those who dont have a Liverpool attacker, then going Sterling/KDB/D.Silva/Aguero to Mane/Firmino/Salah is a sensible move. If you already have a Liverpool attacking asset, then I would keep hold of any City attackers. Honestly, if the City team really turns up at on of these "hard" fixtures they can score 3-4 goals.
Liverpool away is a hard fixture and could be a low scoring game. On the other hand both their defences have been shaky compared to last season so it's not completely stupid to think there might be a lot of goals in that match.
Chelsea at home is not a terrible fixture as they are still working on improving their defence.
Newcastle away can be tough, but it depends on which Newcastle team shows up.
Burnley away is normally tough, but they have not been that solid lately.
Man Utd at home. Captain Sterling FTW.

For me it feels like clean sheets are a bit less common than last season, so I will try to keep the best offensive assets in my team so KDB and Sterling stays.

There always seems to come a point in the season where I get rid of Sterling, and it always stings me. Going to try and learn from past mistakes and keep him this time. Happy with a front 7 of Sterling-Mane-KDB-McGinn-Jimenez-Vardy-Abraham going forward.

This is the line that interests me "City struggling to really hammer lesser opposition."

Obviously they hammered Watford so they are capable of it, but struggled against Southampton when expected to do well and lost to Wolves.

Similar to Spurs in a way, they find it hard against teams who sit deep, defend narrow and get a lot players behind the ball. So should we be targeting fixtures against the likes of Chelsea because it's likely to be a more open game?

We all remember what happened last season when Chelsea visited the Etihad.

01 free transfer, 0.9 in the bank. WC available. What do you suggest, friends?

    Pope / 4.0
TAA, VVD, Chilwell / Lundstram, Rico
    Salah, Sterling, Mount, Yarmolenko, Hudson-Odoi
    Vardy, Abraham / Connolly

Seems like a good time to WC. At the same time, I would keep many of these names. Eh. What do you say?

What would you do on WC?

Would probably ditch VVD, Yarmolenko, CHO, and change goalkeeper. Not worth it?

I would say you can do all that before IB and could leave Pope. Also if you want upgrade Connolly, Brighton have awful fixtures

You are covered, good job on still keeping that wc. The rank must be good.
