Scoutcast Episode 307 – Learning from FPL mistakes

Making mistakes in Fantasy Premier League is the easy part.

Fantasy managers can do that on a weekly basis, from the wrong captaincy decision to disastrous bench selections.

The tricky part is learning from those errors and attempting to improve each Gameweek.

In this week’s Scoutcast episode, Joe is joined by Holly and FPL Family’s Lee for a soul-searching look ahead to Gameweek 12.

They consider some of the errors they’ve made this season and what they’ve learned from them.

Meanwhile, the community owns up to their own blunders. More of these can be found via Joe’s Tweet on the issue earlier in the week.

The Scoutcast crew also look at the Lord of FPL (aka Sheffield United star John Lundstram) and how he’s transformed the game this season.

With a fixture swing and questionable captaincy credentials, Manchester City and Liverpool assets also come under scrutiny.

Lee takes his turn to pick a differential, clean sheets get an airing and there’s a cavalcade of fireworks to contend with in this packed episode, that was recorded on November 5.

Finally, our podcast and video trio reveal their plans, including captaincy choices, for the next set of fixtures. Is this the week they finally learn from their mistakes?

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to get notified of future live episodes.

In addition, the Scoutcast and all our other podcasts are now also available via our Soundcloud channel.

Tielemans is equally good option as Maddison imo. People say him playing deeper put them off but for a fact Tielemens has been involved in more goals in pl than Maddison since he joined leicesrer

Tielemens 13 goals + assists in his only 24 pl matches

Maddison 11 goals + assists in his last 24 pl matches

Ofcourse Maddison is on set peices and looks more flashy but Tielemens has been more efficient regardless.

    Thoughts?

Maddison is their main man which means he drops deep to collect the ball himself a lot (A bit like Kane does)
I think this might contribute to him not getting as many attacking returns as you would expect.

Tielemens offers better value I think as both will likely score similarly.

yh dont get me wrong both are great options for leicesters great run of fixtures.

its just that whenever i see someone mention getting tielemens most of the comments will be he's playing deeper.
tTey just dont know tielemens has outscored maddison despite playing in that position

The only thing I would say is that Madison has returned in double the amount of games then tielmens this season. Maddy seems a lot safer option to me

Tielemens produced seperate returns in 8 of 9 pl matches between gw28 and gw36 last season. Thats some level of consistency for a guy in his first pl season.

This season he most of his blanks were against difficult fixtures. Against easier opportion he'll roam more forward

Tielemens knows how to find the back of the net.

He's a set and forget for a goal in every 5

Maddison for me - more penalty area touches, goal attempts, goal attempts in the box, big chances and chances created this season, and he's played just under 100 minutes less than Tielemans.

      1. HurriKane
        • 11 Years
        4 years, 4 months ago

yet he has only 1 more assist with same amount of goals

stats can be decieving at times. tielemens is more efficent and doesnt need too many chances to score

completely agree.. tielemans is just of different quality.. few years ahead of maddo in experience and iq

also tielemans is more box to box so in harder fixtures he tends to sit deeper to help defend more.. in easier fixtures he roams forward a lot more with freedom.. look at his numbers in the easier fixtures.. sorta shows that.. good fixtures coming up.. dont be surprised if vardy and tielemans are the highest scoring attackers from leicester come the end of that run

exactly my point. tielemens will get more license to bomb forward in easier fixtures

He is cheaper, so that needs to be taken into account, but I'd be really surprised if Tielemans outscores Maddison over the next five.

I went Tielemans and had the money available to go for Maddison, I just think Tielemans is a better footballer than Maddison that all, both great options tho!! Part of me is considering moving Soyuncu to Robbo and triple up with Leicester attack with Vardy, Tielemans and Maddison.

Tielemans is one of the most easy on the eye players I've seen in a long time, technically brilliant and his decision making is top drawer! Think Maddison is the better FPL asset due to set pieces and having a bit more potential going forward for me...not a hell of a lot in though, both good options and both nailed!

    1. Should I do Wilson > Jimmy? Have already done Kun > Vardy, and have 1FT.

    2. I've got a few fires to put out (Yarmo, Cantwell, potentially Mount), and am looking at mid-priced options such as Tielemans/Maddison.
Should I take anyone out? If yes, who?

    Pope
    TAA, Lund, Rico
    Salah, KDB, Yarmo, Mount
    Vardy (C), Tammy, Wilson

    Button, Soy, Cantwell, Janmaat

    Thanks.

Maupay -> Jota for free or save FT and step away from the keybord? Team below:

    Pope
TAA - Lascelles - Lord Lundstram
    Sterling - Mané - KDB - Mount
    Vardy - Abraham - Maupay

Söyüncü first on bench and will likely come in for Mount.

KDB's points will be in decline until Rodri is back.

Sterling not looking all that great out wide on the left.

Once Rodri is back, I will have a look at getting KDB again.

Have Mane and Salah so Sterling not an option for me.

Ideally would have been better a few days ago, but keeping Salah is reliant on the hope that he will pick up whereas Mane is objectively out-performing him. Don't think either will go mad this weekend obvs, but better than wasting a transfer.

Struggling with that move for a while now. Had Salah nonstop for three seasons and now it is first time that I am thinking of taking him out. Although the guys will again be close at the end of the season. Also difference is now only 0.3. But Pope to someone could be the move.

Why some are benching Lund who is a midfielder playing in defence?

Probably Pepe said usually takes 10-12 days for these sorts of injuries. Could be a great move to hold

I just did Dilva to Pulisic and will be going no City until further notice.

It actually feels really good not having to worry about Pep toying with your assets.

Yep we thought we could get away with by only spending 7.5m but it doesn’t get any less annoying. Pulisic is one option for me I am going to postpone my decision as long as possible

I do, using this IB, activating Friday night to try and get jammy double rises.

I don’t have LFC attack so WC is largely to jump on Mane & possibly go for Jimenez early too. Don’t have a better way of doing so.

For that price can’t be a waste. The problem is that other cheapies are all outscoring him, also Rudiger will be back soon. So it means him or Kurt out
