Scoutcast Episode 307 – Learning from FPL mistakes

Making mistakes in Fantasy Premier League is the easy part.

Fantasy managers can do that on a weekly basis, from the wrong captaincy decision to disastrous bench selections.

The tricky part is learning from those errors and attempting to improve each Gameweek.

In this week’s Scoutcast episode, Joe is joined by Holly and FPL Family’s Lee for a soul-searching look ahead to Gameweek 12.

They consider some of the errors they’ve made this season and what they’ve learned from them.

Meanwhile, the community owns up to their own blunders. More of these can be found via Joe’s Tweet on the issue earlier in the week.

The Scoutcast crew also look at the Lord of FPL (aka Sheffield United star John Lundstram) and how he’s transformed the game this season.

With a fixture swing and questionable captaincy credentials, Manchester City and Liverpool assets also come under scrutiny.

Lee takes his turn to pick a differential, clean sheets get an airing and there’s a cavalcade of fireworks to contend with in this packed episode, that was recorded on November 5.

Finally, our podcast and video trio reveal their plans, including captaincy choices, for the next set of fixtures. Is this the week they finally learn from their mistakes?

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to get notified of future live episodes.

In addition, the Scoutcast and all our other podcasts are now also available via our Soundcloud channel.

Having not had a Pool player in my team all season (somehow still top 100k) - I've decided it's time with the upcoming fixtures. Any objections to this 2 week plan?

    2FT £0ITB

    Pope 4m
    Lund Rico Digne Dunk Chillwell
    Sterling KDB Mount Maddison Donk
    Tammy Aubameyang Vardy

    GW12: Sterling -> Martial
    GW13: KDB + Digne -> Salah/Mane + TAA/Robbo

Definitely a risk, but I don't see many captaining city assets over the next few which should *hopefully* mitigate any damage

Do you think KDB/Digne outscores Martial/Trent over the next 3/4 GW? That's basically the choice and I like the look of the latter

Think KdB will miss one of the next 4 so no probably not. I'd just sooner lose Auba than KdB - and I rate Auba a lot.

Thanks for the reply. Agreed that it's definitely not a sure thing, but a few weeks of OOP and good fixtures seems like one of those rare differentials that may actually be the sensible move

Selling KDB when he's at home to that leaky Chelsea defence, and Digne at home to Norwich...could hurt.
      Wait until GW 14

Think I'm happy to lose KDB in the knowledge that I'd definitely rather have a pool mid that week.

Do get the digne concern - could definitely hold the FT and look to move trent in the week after

    How tied on is Ings?

Could be looking to move to a flexible 3-5-2 - 3-4-3 soon. He'd be a luxury sub I guess but I rate him and he has the happy knack of returning when he's fit.

    Soton fixtures look appetising.

I'm considering him after the Arsenal game. My only problem with him is that is he really the best striker to get when the fixtures get congested in December? He might only be able to play 1 game a week and they have the likes of Long and Adams who can step in.

      1. pingissimus

I'd love to say he's utterly nailed, but I cant say that for certainty.
We are in deep s*** at the moment. In the bloody relegation zone. We have a very good run, and I hope to God we take advantage of it.
Ings is without a doubt our best striker. If he is fit , he will play. For the majority of this favorable run, think he will feature.
That said, its his fitness/injury history, aint it? Ralph and Danny have said that his fitness has improved, and so far its proven true. Just something to keep in the bacm of your ahead.

Debating about changing mount out of my team, mainly because everyone else in the league has him and I like to try keep it a little different otherwise everyone does the same thing when you all have pretty much the same players.

    Couple of quick questions:

    1) Maddison or Martial for the next few fixtures? Already have a Rashford and Vardy but might look to offload rashford (for Jiménez / ings) if he doesn’t perform

    2A) 7.5mid + TAA + Lascelles (as a sub for Tomori/Lundy) in a 343 or
    2B) Robbo + TAA + Dendocker in a 433

I’m considering moving Callum Wilson and Sterling out for Vardy and someone. Son maybe? Or another City mid? Already have De Bruyne.

Im currently on Maddison, the money in the bank can be used to upgrade Mings to Robertson (in my case)

Its so tough, im currently on Soyuncu, as Rico and Lundstram have lots of attacking threat, but its a coin flip really
