FPL Gameweek 12 team news and injury updates so far

Given that there is a Friday night deadline this week, there were disappointingly few Premier League press conferences held on Thursday afternoon.

Only eight media gatherings took place, with none of the managers from the ‘big six’ clubs amongst them.

We are likely to get a further ten pre-Gameweek 12 pressers tomorrow and whatever information we can extract from Nuno Espirito Santo and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s post-Europa League press conferences tonight, with some of that information perhaps embargoed.

Brendan Rodgers was perhaps the headline act on a quiet Thursday, bringing the sort of injury news Fantasy managers like to hear: no news.

The Leicester City manager has a near-complete clean bill of health for the visit of Arsenal, with only Matty James (Achilles) unavailable – and even he has returned to the training ground this week.

Sean Dyche revealed on Thursday that Chris Wood (hamstring) has “every chance” of being available for selection against West Ham United, although Johann Berg Gudmundsson (hamstring) remains absent.

Asked whether there could be team changes this weekend, the Burnley boss said:

It’s a possibility. They always are, by the way, but if you have a tough result or performance then it enhances that fact. It keeps everyone alive.

Danny Drinkwater (ankle) is back in full training but a little way from a playing return.

Manuel Pellegrini says that Lukasz Fabianski (hip) faces at least another month out, although Michail Antonio (hamstring) is expected back after the international break.

Winston Reid is still building up his match-fitness, while Jack Wilshere (groin) will be assessed ahead of the trip to Turf Moor.

Pellegrini said of Wilshere:

We will evaluate, to see if he can be [available] for Saturday or not. We need to see him working tomorrow.

Norwich City have been gradually getting bodies back over the past couple of weeks and there was further good news from Daniel Farke on Thursday, with the Canaries’ boss saying:

Mario Vrancic, since two and a half weeks, consistently on the training pitch. He’s not fit for 90 minutes but at least a topic for the squad. It’s good to have him at least as an option.”

Grant Hanley is likely to be back pretty soon after the international break. Christoph Zimmermann was involved in some parts of team training during this week, it looks like he will also be back pretty soon after the international break.

Farke also confirmed that Todd Cantwell, Ibrahim Amadou, Tom Trybull and Onel Hernandez are all back up to full fitness following their recent injuries.

Quique Sanchez Flores welcomes back Troy Deeney (knee) from injury after a lengthy absence, meanwhile.

Flores said first of his club captain, and then of other returning players:

He’s ready to come to the group and go to the list. He is ready and we will make the final decision. It’s very good news.

It’s not just Deeney. We have [José] Holebas, Capoue, [Sebastian] Prödl, Sarr – players who have recovered in the week — and now we have more options. It’s good for the team.

Ahead of Southampton’s match against Everton, Ralph Hasenhuttl said:

Moussa [Djenepo] is back, Cedric is back, they can train with the team. No more injuries, so we have all the players on board now. Ryan Bertrand, he is still suspended. The rest are fit.

The Toffees aren’t quite so blessed with a clean bill of health, with Andre Gomes facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle fracture-dislocation in the draw with Spurs last Sunday.

Bernard (knee) and Jean-Philippe Gbamin (thigh) remain on the injury list.

Marco Silva said of Fabian Delph (hamstring):

Big doubt for the game. Let’s see tomorrow and on the matchday but at this moment I can tell you he’s a big doubt for the match.

Chris Wilder was frustratingly vague on Sheffield United’s injury news, saying only:

We’ve got a couple that are hopefully going to train today. No names mentioned obviously! But we’re hopeful that they’ll train today and be on the trip down south tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow will hopefully bring us fresh updates on the likes of Ederson (muscle) and Mason Mount (ankle) and you read up on those injuries in our Scout Notes articles below:

READ MORE: Atalanta 1-1 Manchester City and Red Star 0-4 Spurs
READ MORE: Chelsea 4-4 Ajax and Liverpool 2-1 Genk

Predicted line-ups and more detailed information will be found in the Team News tab, which is being refreshed over the coming 24 hours.

We’ll have our regular early-evening article round-up of Friday’s press conferences tomorrow, along with a second video/podcast summary of any breaking injury news.

Joe and Neale’s YouTube round-up of Thursday’s pressers can be viewed or listened to below.

Captain Sterling blanked in 4 out 5 fixtures below

    (BHA nor WOL AVL SOT)

If you cant trust him to deliver in those matches dont think he's worth keeping for hefty 12m .Agree?

Im looking at a straight swap with Mane. Mane and Vardy will be my captains until gw20 (already got kdb as city cover btw)

Totally agree - he caught me out in three of those 5

I had the good sense to be rid of him for WOL, AVL but got sucked back in for SOU

He's gone now, long live The Egyptian King Mo, looking forward to the points

Yeah but he's only really blanked 4 times (and also didn't feature one week). So he's returned points in over half his games.

He's too deppendent on other factors like Mendy being in the xi. Not to forget pep could easily rotate him as city fixture congestion intensifies in nov and dec

I’m giving him a send off by captaining against Chelsea and then swapping for perma-cap Salah GW14

All those people sneering at RMTs without Sterling and Salah at the start of the season!?! Now they are telling everyone who subs Lundstram they are foolish. The handicapping of better players by making them more expensive seems more accurate this season.

If you have Sterling and not going to cap him which many probably won't GW12 then there is no point having him.

He is 'hailed' as the 'best' player in FPL...

    a) Pukki, Ings & Sterling -> Vardy, Jiminéz & Maddison (-8),
    b) wait with one until next gw (-4), or
    c) simply not worth hits at all?

Saw Mount was selected for England squad, recon he is fine then and will play this gw? Otherwise, am I fine with Soy first sub with Ota and Donk second and third? Ota will be Robbo after this gw. Worth doing Mount to Maddison/Tielemans or someone else otherwise?

    TAA Soy Lundy
    Sterling KDB Martial Mount
    Vardy Abraham Jiminez

    Button Rico Cantwell Otamendi

No need to change anything this week? Can play Rico if Mount dosent.

I’m definitely playing Rico. Decent chance of defensive and attacking returns. If I bench one of my playing defenders this week, it’s between Soy and Lundy. Your transfer plan sounds good to me

    Ryan (Button)
    TAA, Lundy, Rico (Ota, Kelly)
    Maddi, KDB, Mane, Mount (Dendonk)
    Vardy, Jiminez, Abra

Plan is to bring in Robbo for Ota, leaving 3.8m behind

    Leandro Trossard

    5.8m
    TSB: 0.3%

    Mins per chance created: 25
    Mins per attempt: 33
    Mins per goal: 152
    Mins per xGI: 128
    Shot accuracy: 33%

Goal involvement when on the pitch: 80%

These stats are obviously skewed by a lack of minutes to some extent but they are still very impressive to me, especially at that price. He compares well with the likes of Maddison.

The elephant in the room is the fixtures and lack of game time. Despite these negatives, is anyone tempted?

Firmly on the watchlist and happy to wait. Next 3 fixtures are tough and he's not nailed. Should he emerge from that set feeling like he's an assured starter, he'd come right in.

I'm a Trossard fan. Started the season with him and have had trouble replacing that 6.0M mid slot in my team, which is currently occupied by Perez. I consider Trossard to be completely "fixture proof", but I'd need a reason to sell Perez... And Trossard playing 90 minutes again... And I'm probably making the switch. Easy to have him as first sub sometimes though, since the 4.0M defenders are reliable now

I almost got him in this week, but went with Harvey Barnes at the last moment because of the fixtures. Will keep monitoring him. If he becomes nailed again and the fixtures are right, will be straight into my team. Although I feel Barnes is also a good differential at the same price range.

Which of these midfielders would you lose to fund Vardy (own Mane who I'll be C-ing most games):

The chance of 4 clean sheets in a row must be pretty small though especially against a rejuvenated Newcastle. Wasn’t Liverpool Man City 0-0 last year? And he must have a great chance to score from a set piece too.

But he’s the most likely to get attacking returns.

Considering Donk will likely get you the customary safe 2 points and Arsenal should wipe out a Leicester clean sheet, Rico looks like the one most likely to get more than 2 points.

Such save points should be given in FPL imo. Wingers get CS points. Strikers get +bps for CBIs
Stand in keepers should get points and bps

    Pope
    TAA Pereira Rico Lundstram
    Mane Sterling KDB Mount*
    Vardy(c) Abraham

    McGovern Connolly Dendocker Boly**

    A) Save FT and have 2FTs during IB
    B) Sterling and Connolly to Son and Jimenez (-4)
    C) Something else?

Feels weird bringing in Madison (for Dilva) before a match against arsenal. Tempted to just hold and do a mini WC next gw to get Mane/robbo.

Team below if I opt to save

    Pope
Taa Lundy Tomori Rico — Lascelles
Sterling Kdb Mount — Dilva Cantwell
    Tammy Vardy Rashford

Pretty ok with it but if Mount is out, it will change to 5atb which I don’t want

Is anyone able to tell me when Otamendi dropped to 5.3? I've been checking fpl statistics every day. He's dropped from 5.6 in a matter of days, ridiculous!

5.3 was two or three days ago - sold him for 5.4 on Saturday

I didn't check either after I've sold him - He was 5.4 before the last deadline so one fall in one week shouldn't be a surprise

This! I'm sure he wasn't close as I checked each evening, very out of order! Lost 0.2 on that pile of pop not to mention the 21 points he blocked by coming on for a minute!

        How quickly things change.

Just before KDB picked up an injury he probably was the player everyone should have had.

Since his return he has been a bit uninspiring. You surely at this point would not say he is a must have until Rodri is back again and that probably will be around mid December then Rodri still needs to get back to match fitness.

The fear of owning zero City should not be a fear when many teams on here only have KDB. Others only Sterling.

Just like Andy in the previous article, what will make his team more dangerous than yours only owning KDB 'if' you have no City?

Depends who you have instead, really.

Teams like City and Liverpool can hammer anyone at any time, though, so it’s the fear of missing out on a haul, which can seriously affect OR.

          2FT, £0.3 ITB
          WCSA (wild card still available)

          Pope, Heaton
          Söyüncü, Otamendi, TAA, Rico, Lundstram
          Mount, Salah, KDB, Dendoncker, Tielemans
          Aguero, Pukki, Abraham

          A) Aguero to Vardy and roll 2 FT for IB
          B) Aguero and Pukki to Vardy and Jimenez- £2.9 ITB and use WC over IB
          C) as B but don’t use WC over the IB

Leaning towards A, and getting shot of Pukki and Ota over the IB.

          Thoughts, peeps?
