How the top 10k FPL managers have set up for Gameweek 12

Fantasy Premier League managers inside the top 10,000 have largely steered away from Manchester City and Liverpool players for the Gameweek 12 captaincy.

Close a third of them handed their backing to Jamie Vardy (£9.4m) ahead of Arsenal’s visit to Leicester on Saturday afternoon.

That makes him the most popular captain option in the upper echelons of the worldwide Fantasy rankings, as well as the winner of Fantasy Football Scout’s latest poll.

Also turned to by a portion of top 10k managers is Tammy Abraham (£7.9m) who has earned a 24.9% share at this level.

However, when we look at how the armband has been distributed at a worldwide level, we see a completely different story.

It is the Chelsea man who tops the charts overall for the first time this season, backed by 1,048,621 managers for Gameweek 12.

That is nearly double the amount who have turned to Vardy, who was handed just 674,657 armbands ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Arsenal.

Between them is Raheem Sterling (£12.1m), captained by 750,830 despite his tricky trip to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Furthermore, a portion of top 10k managers are not letting the perhaps unpredictable nature of Anfield’s upcoming contest scare them in their decision making.

Sadio Mané (£12.0m) is the third-most-popular captain at this level of the rankings going into Gameweek 12, 8.4% of them handing him the armband.

You can understand why these managers have made such a call, considering how cast aside Liverpool options were this week.

You have to go back to Gameweek 3 for the last time that Mané blanked at home so if he delivers, he could prove a powerful differential for these brave managers.

It does appear as if Gameweek 12 was one which failed to produce too many seismic changes in ownership among the top 10k.

That should not necessarily be too much of a surprise as managers start to settle into upper echelons.

Perhaps the biggest shift here revolves around early contender for 2019/20’s Fantasy asset of the year John Lundstram (£4.8m).

Going into Gameweek 11 he was the most-popular defender, sat in 64.9% of top 10k teams and that’s still the case following the most recent deadline.

However, there has been a massive jump in ownership at this level, the Sheffield United man now the most popular top 10k asset, in 88% of such teams.

That huge jump may be a combination of factors, including some owners riding a 21-point haul into the top 10k as well as 300,000+ transfers in since the end of Gameweek 11.

Martin Kelly (£4.1m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) and Diego Rico (£4.3m) remain three of the other four most-fashionable defenders, keeping their place in the so-called template from Gameweeks 11 to 12.

The new addition, creeping in at the expense of Andrew Robertson (£6.9m), is Çaglar Söyüncü (£4.8m), his 14-point haul a huge development in Gameweek 11.

Despite just one attacking return since Gameweek 8, Kevin de Bruyne (£10.2m) remains the most popular top 10k midfielder, in 73.1% of teams.

The big story in midfield is Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) dropping out of the five-most-popular options.

He was in 25.1% of top 10k teams for Gameweek 11 but has been replaced in this template of sorts by James Maddison (£7.4m).

As expected, the forward line most preferred by the top 10k remains at Vardy, Abraham and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m), although the latter is long way off the popularity of the former two.

It is interesting to see that the Wildcard template among the top 10k is not too dissimilar from the overall most-popular options, despite just 1.42% of them wielding the chip.

As you can see from the graphic above, the two most important options that don’t quite chime with the overall make-up of the top 10k are Christian Pulisic (£7.3m) and Raùl Jiménez (£7.3m).

As already mentioned, the Wildcard is beyond extensive usage at this point in the campaign, as 65.1% of top 10k managers have deployed it already.

It looks as if the Free Hit was the most popular for Gameweek 12, although was only used by 1.71%.

The use of this chip does make sense within the context of Gameweek 12 though, considering Liverpool and Manchester City’s hugely important meeting at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

As you can see from the graphic above, those two clubs still make up a massive portion of top 10k squads.

On average, managers at this level own 2.5 players from either side, combining for five.

That means on average, a third of Fantasy squads among the top 10k will be playing at Anfield this weekend – perhaps too much of a daunting prospect for those Free Hitters.

Ah you have a crystal ball. How can you judge something on things that haven't happened yet. So far it's been 1 week and a green arrow, those are the only facts.

you're doing the exact same thing by saying it wasn't awful. Where's your crystal ball brah? The fact is he got jammy 21 points off the bench because his WC was so bad he picked players that didn't even play...LOL

Everyone's had players that haven't played this season and had pts off the bench, part of the game. I don't know if its awful or not, only time will tell. Just get bored when people say anything that's not the template on here is awful or wrong. Everyone just pick the same teams then and well call it a draw.

all I do is have balls and take a position. Saying "I don't know if it's awful or not" doesn't really add any value btw. Time will tell obviously but that's my opinion.

Williams is just a one week punt at a cheap and easy 6 points. Beyond that it doesn't matter as he'll play double Liv defence + one other every week.

Been pondering for two weeks. So much so I missed the deadline today. Will wait, but have 2FTs during the break.

Which Leicester asset to get? Vardy means a hit + fodder, or dumping a City mid before Chelsea. Neither ideal. Or could skip Vardy and go after LC mid. Any initial thoughts are appreciated.

Reply fail. Ozil sometimes makes a remark before a gw that usually means he’s benched/not in the squad. This is a similar remark, but he could be referring to only Mustafi and Kola being benched/out of squad, not himself.

Someone going against the grain shouldnt be ridiculed. Oh and also, I prefer not to link my team, but NEVER call anyone out on their rank. If you call someone out on their rank who are brave enough to have their team linked, make sure you link your own as well. I bet you are doing better than him 😉

You did call him out on his rank as well. Why dont you link your team like he has so the rest of us can judge your moves and rank the same way? He speaks about his move but has credibility since he has a couple of top 10K finishes in the past.

      Nice post JYJY.

Nice to see there is at least some guys left trying to bring a bit of life to the DZ bringing up topics like this.

I have very fond memories of the DZ back in the day and it is where i learned my fpl trade from some of the high quality discussions that used to take place there.

I really miss the likes of Diva,Cheeseoid,Balders,Ruth and many more who used really bring the DZ to life with great posts. At least TM is still about trying to help the needy in his own way and if he ever left this site would be in trouble imo.

Yeah, but I bet TM is fed up of some of the rubbish on here in recent times too. The first two-three seasons I spent on here in the DZ was a breath of fresh air, informative, interesting and taking the piss in a fun way! Not the insulting manner of what goes on here lately unfortunately. Cheers Ogie, glad there are posters like you still on here, enjoy the GW! 🙂

For the benefit of a relative newbie like me, what were the great types of example insight posts on here? I remember Ruth (insights and shutting down poor opinions) and Ludo (deep analyses). I'd say in those cases they either had great experience, and good analytical mind, and the ability to find and draw important comparisons which we don't see so much on the site now?

As this site has become more of a commercial enterprise, I wonder if recruiting someone with those qualities to breathe some life into the community posts is an idea?

When i look at the HT section, about 50% are scheduled, which i think has increased, since i started using this site - meaning loss of high quality post to me.

All rivals in my ML, and prolly all ahead of me in the OR does not own Kane.
It is do or die really.

Miss PL tbh. Became a father last december, and thought I could still watch PL every saturday and sunday.

Don't know if I am just a wimp or if it is somewhat normal, but i've missed 95% of the PL games this season. Watched some Chelsea matches, and Mount has looked good, but that is all.

Kane can still score a goal or two right? Or does he still think he is a central midfielder?

True, thought on match day it was a RC that wouldnt be overturned but yeah would've been a bit harsh on Son!

Yup. I was buzzing but knew it'd get overturned after. Kept Mane, Aubam and Salah quiet so who knows

    Best City/Liverpool combined XI?

    Alisson
    TAA VVD Fernandinho Robbo
    Fabinho KDB B.Silva
    Sterling Aguero Salah

Laporte would be in if not injured, Salah/Mane is contentious but the Egyptian gets the nod.

Not sure what else Mane needs to do to get picked.

          😆

If you're playing Salah on the left, Mane walks in ahead of him. If you're playing him on the right, he does so too, currently.

Just checked and Rainer is correct - Mane scored last week, Salah didn’t.

Personally think KDB is lucky to pip the Ox to his spot too, but alas.

      Ederson over Alisson
      Possibly Gini over Bilva
      Mane over Salah

Only one I could agree with is the Mane/Salah and that is based on current form only

Fairs. Ederson over Alisson for me for sure. Put Alisson in the city defence atm without van dijk and he'd be in trouble imo

Alisson was clear stand out keeper last season and just as influential as VVD in the solidity of the Liverpool defence! What else does he need to do to get the nod?

Not saying he isn't a good keeper, just would personally prefer Ederson in my team

Agree but Ederson wouldn't be as effective as Allison is playing for Liverpool either.
