Gary Lineker: Following the exciting Owen Derby, I’m joined by both Owens, Michael and Hargreaves, to discuss the result. Happy with the result Owen?
Owen Hargreaves: Ecstatic Gary. WhenTheOWENgetsTough are a terrific team and to come away with fourteen points from fifteen is wonderful.
Michael Owen: Obviously a bit disappointed for Back To Square Owen. But when a team scores less than their opposition, that usually means they will lose.
GL: Owen H, your eponymous team are now at the top of the Pundits Playoff league, how did the lads pull it off?
OH: It’s hard to put it into words, Gary, they’re just a terrific team, and to finish in first place is wonderful.
MO: [under his breath] Divers the lot of ‘em.
GL: Michael, can your lads come back from a defeat of this nature?
MO: To be honest, Gary, and I won’t lie, it was definitely a game of two halves. Even though we lost the first one, we came close to winning the second, but lost that as well. If we hadn’t of lost those, I think we might have just gone on to win. I’m not sure we’ll win next week, so obviously we will just have to wait and see.
OH: Fantastic analysis.
GL: Well there we are folks, the Pundits Playoff’s third match week has come to a close, but we are hearing the transfer window will be opening for new players after match week 4!
Yes folks, there is only one more week of match action for this Period, and then the transfer window opens.
Transfer Window Information
But before I launch into the MW3 review, time to release details of the impending transfer window. After Matchweek 4 closes after next weekend the transfer window will open on Monday 11th November at 10am. At this point team managers may release players from their squads, and players can also release themselves if they wish to either leave the competition or want to join another team. Both teams and players have until 9pm Wednesday 13th November to do this, at which the bidding list will be locked down.
New players can put their names down now by registering here from today.
There will be no pre-draft signings this window, all signings will be done via a draft system. The draft will take place at 9pm on Sunday 17th November, giving Team Managers four days to prepare their bids. If anyone has any questions, please email the organisers at Punditsplayoff@gmail.com
Matchweek 3 results
Back to the action, and you can see the all the scores, results and tables here.
Already there are only two teams left unbeaten:
WhenTheOWENgetsTough are sitting at the top of the league after their convincing victory over Back to Square One, who only got a single bonus point after Grand Thibauto won his H2H C battle. With 27 points from their three wins, and an accumulated 14.5 bonus points, they have in total 41.5 points.
The Keane Fifteen also won their third match against Unbelievable Jeff FC, knocking them down to third place, although the losers were commiserated by getting 4 of the 6 bonus points on offer. The Keane Fifteen therefore rise to second place, with a total of 36 points (27 from their 3 wins plus 8 from bonus H2H matches).
Manager of the Period
Pirlo’s Pen, team manager of Unbelievable Jeff FC is still in place to win this award, the winner of which will be interviewed exclusively for the Pundits Playoff. His team sit in 3rd and 1st place in the H2H and classic leagues, and currently have the highest team value. His squad management has also been top class with the highest cumulative scores in the H2H bonus matches (518). However, Kadhai Paneer FC, team manager for The Keane Fifteen, is not only leading from the front with the second highest score in the tournament as a player, but also sees his team in 2nd place in both leagues. They also have the 3rd highest H2H bonus scores too. It’s going to be a close one!

“15” Musketeers got one over Slaven’s Ball-itch which was a very tight affair, winning 887-872.
Last but not least, Brazil Nuts beat Blame It On Rio comfortably, 867-771 and took home all fifteen points!

Scoring rules (last time I add this info on as I hope by now you all get the drift) – A reminder that each team must now nominate three players for each of the H2H matches to earn bonus points, and two players to grace their team bench who’s scores will not count.
A brief reminder of how the scores work in each match:
Team with best combined score of their starting 13 will earn 9 points. In the case of a draw both teams get 3 points. A losing team gets 0 points.
Winner of H2H A will earn their team an extra 3 bonus points.
Winner of H2H B will earn their team an extra 2 bonus points.
Winner of H2H C will earn their team an extra 1 bonus point.
Any drawn H2H’s will share the bonus points for that H2H.
IMPORTANT: teams that fail to nominate their three H2H and sub players will forfeit any bonus points, so team managers make sure you get these done on time.
MW 3 DEADLINE FOR TEAM NOMINATIONS IS 6PM FRIDAY 8TH NOVEMBER.
Scoring on match days will be shown here.
Everyone can input their own scores, and managers are responsible for checking their opposition scores. A reminder that Wildcard and Free Hit scores are allowed, but scores with Triple Captain or Bench Boost used should be adjusted to keep things fair.
Can Unbelievable Jeff FC regain the top spot by beating their opponents BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC (whipping boys…isn’t it?)? Will The Keane Fifteen be blaming it on Rio if they fail to winP
Good luck all, and may the other team’s hits be ever in your favour.
