Pundits playoff MW3 results and the upcoming transfer window

Gary Lineker: Following the exciting Owen Derby, I’m joined by both Owens, Michael and Hargreaves, to discuss the result. Happy with the result Owen?
Owen Hargreaves: Ecstatic Gary. WhenTheOWENgetsTough are a terrific team and to come away with fourteen points from fifteen is wonderful.
Michael Owen: Obviously a bit disappointed for Back To Square Owen. But when a team scores less than their opposition, that usually means they will lose.
GL: Owen H, your eponymous team are now at the top of the Pundits Playoff league, how did the lads pull it off?
OH: It’s hard to put it into words, Gary, they’re just a terrific team, and to finish in first place is wonderful.
MO: [under his breath] Divers the lot of ‘em.
GL: Michael, can your lads come back from a defeat of this nature?
MO: To be honest, Gary, and I won’t lie, it was definitely a game of two halves. Even though we lost the first one, we came close to winning the second, but lost that as well. If we hadn’t of lost those, I think we might have just gone on to win. I’m not sure we’ll win next week, so obviously we will just have to wait and see.
OH: Fantastic analysis.
GL: Well there we are folks, the Pundits Playoff’s third match week has come to a close, but we are hearing the transfer window will be opening for new players after match week 4!

Yes folks, there is only one more week of match action for this Period, and then the transfer window opens.

Transfer Window Information

But before I launch into the MW3 review, time to release details of the impending transfer window. After Matchweek 4 closes after next weekend the transfer window will open on Monday 11th November at 10am. At this point team managers may release players from their squads, and players can also release themselves if they wish to either leave the competition or want to join another team. Both teams and players have until 9pm Wednesday 13th November to do this, at which the bidding list will be locked down.

New players can put their names down now by registering here from today.

There will be no pre-draft signings this window, all signings will be done via a draft system. The draft will take place at 9pm on Sunday 17th November, giving Team Managers four days to prepare their bids. If anyone has any questions, please email the organisers at Punditsplayoff@gmail.com

Matchweek 3 results

Back to the action, and you can see the all the scores, results and tables here.

Already there are only two teams left unbeaten:
WhenTheOWENgetsTough are sitting at the top of the league after their convincing victory over Back to Square One, who only got a single bonus point after Grand Thibauto won his H2H C battle. With 27 points from their three wins, and an accumulated 14.5 bonus points, they have in total 41.5 points.

The Keane Fifteen also won their third match against Unbelievable Jeff FC, knocking them down to third place, although the losers were commiserated by getting 4 of the 6 bonus points on offer. The Keane Fifteen therefore rise to second place, with a total of 36 points (27 from their 3 wins plus 8 from bonus H2H matches).

Manager of the Period

Pirlo’s Pen, team manager of Unbelievable Jeff FC is still in place to win this award, the winner of which will be interviewed exclusively for the Pundits Playoff. His team sit in 3rd and 1st place in the H2H and classic leagues, and currently have the highest team value. His squad management has also been top class with the highest cumulative scores in the H2H bonus matches (518). However, Kadhai Paneer FC, team manager for The Keane Fifteen, is not only leading from the front with the second highest score in the tournament as a player, but also sees his team in 2nd place in both leagues. They also have the 3rd highest H2H bonus scores too. It’s going to be a close one!

Other results

A Whole Lawro B*llocks finally got off the mark with a win over BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC, grabbing 14 and a half points along the way.

Holly’s Hamsters had a storming week with the highest overall score of all the teams, which was too much of course for Nirvana Scott Talent.
“15” Musketeers got one over Slaven’s Ball-itch which was a very tight affair, winning 887-872.
Last but not least, Brazil Nuts beat Blame It On Rio comfortably, 867-771 and took home all fifteen points!

Fixtures for MW4
  • A Whole Lawro B*llocks vs WhenTheOWENgetsTough
  • Holly’s Hamsters vs Back to Square Owen
  • Unbelievable Jeff vs BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC
  • Slaven’s Ball-itch vs Nirvana Scott Talent
  • Blame it on Rio vs The Keane Fifteen
  • Brazil Nuts vs “15” Musketeers

Scoring rules (last time I add this info on as I hope by now you all get the drift) – A reminder that each team must now nominate three players for each of the H2H matches to earn bonus points, and two players to grace their team bench who’s scores will not count.

A brief reminder of how the scores work in each match:

Team with best combined score of their starting 13 will earn 9 points. In the case of a draw both teams get 3 points. A losing team gets 0 points.

Winner of H2H A will earn their team an extra 3 bonus points.
Winner of H2H B will earn their team an extra 2 bonus points.
Winner of H2H C will earn their team an extra 1 bonus point.
Any drawn H2H’s will share the bonus points for that H2H.

IMPORTANT: teams that fail to nominate their three H2H and sub players will forfeit any bonus points, so team managers make sure you get these done on time.

MW 3 DEADLINE FOR TEAM NOMINATIONS IS 6PM FRIDAY 8TH NOVEMBER.

Scoring on match days will be shown here.

Everyone can input their own scores, and managers are responsible for checking their opposition scores. A reminder that Wildcard and Free Hit scores are allowed, but scores with Triple Captain or Bench Boost used should be adjusted to keep things fair.

Can Unbelievable Jeff FC regain the top spot by beating their opponents BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC (whipping boys…isn’t it?)? Will The Keane Fifteen be blaming it on Rio if they fail to winP

Good luck all, and may the other team’s hits be ever in your favour.

RP since the previous one went unanswered:
Boris, first of all great job putting this tournament together. Fantastic job you and others are doing of running it.
Now that the first transfer window is coming up will we (keane 15) get a preference to pick players ahead of others since we did not get pre draft picks?
Kadhai paneer (shivam) stepped in at last moment to when the 12th manager was AWOL so it's only fair he gets some returns on the good gesture....something to kindly consider. Thanks!

I'm not sure that will happen, but will happily discuss it with the organisers and see what they think.

Just to explain exactly why we even had pre-draft signings at the beginning of the tournament, there are a lot of FFS members that have a lot of history playing competitions like this together, and we wanted to be able to give them a chance to continue that at the beginning. However having the draft for picking the final players was to ensure FFP was adhered to as we wanted the teams to be as fair as we could.

I actually think that Kadhai Paneer, and the rest of your team, benefited from from doing all their transfer business via the draft. You have the highest budget left of all the teams, and the second highest scores in both Pundit Playoff leagues, not to mention the second highest team value. So it will be a hard sell to convince the other organisers and team managers teams to accept this, but I'll have the conversation all the same.

        Thanks for your consideration.
I am aware of the history as i have been parts of two previous tournaments with kadhai paneer ( he used to go by the name of virat kohli earlier). Most of us from past tournament are back together with some new ones as well missed out on couple of guys since we were late.
It's great fun though and once again Kudos to you and organisers

    Great work Boris and team!
We won! We won a game! The sleeping giant that was/is A Whole Lawro B*ll*cks has woken from its slumber. To quote Lawro “Michael Owen isn't the tallest of lads, but his height more than makes up for that”. I think that gives us the necessary inspiration to give WhenTheOWENgetsTough their first taste of defeat this week! Good luck all

Taking a dig at a team you’re not even playing this weekend haha! Feeling extra cocky after that first taste of victory I guess XD
Don’t worry, Michael Owen may not be the tallest of lads, but he’s got the longest memory. This insult should provide some extra motivation for our lads 😉

We pranced into GW11 with hope in our hearts and our heads in the clouds. What could possibly wrong …

Well, a severe Nut allergy soon put paid to that plan. Our makeshift physio room was overrun with washed-out Salahs; part-time Otas; and benched Lundys. Captains went AWOL, and our differentials were overwhelmed by a flood of incoming foxes. Fortunately we were able to limit the damage to 15-0.

Rio’s early scouting report suggested all would be well in GW12, with our opponents ‘The Keen Fifteen’ evoking visions of a bus full of cheerleaders. It was only on closer inspection that he realised that we were up against 15 psycho clones of his arch nemesis; and we haven’t seen him since. I’m sure reports of him running into the wilderness screaming ‘we’re doomed’ are exaggerated, and he’s really tied up at BT Sport helping Michael Owen count the goals in the Chelsea match.

Undaunted by our opponents’ 100% record, limited social skills, and failure to comply with the Geneva Convention, morale is high. After a hard weeks training, its evidence of our team spirit that every squad member has offered to give up their place so that a teammate can share in the coming glory. To lighten the mood we took time off from updating out tetanus shots and being fitted for body armour for a spot of bird watching: ravens, buzzards, vultures …

In Rio’s absence, Gee brought in Unai Emery for a pre-match pep talk. He said we should copy the Rugby lads and do a bit of stomping and gesticulating to wind up the opposition and get the crowd going. He called it the Xhaka.

We voted to do a bit of Morris Dancing instead.

Nirvana Scott Talent v Slaven Ball-Itch

By my calculations (after autosubs and cancelling outs):

    NST: 15 points + Maguire (or 9 point autosub), Ryan; TAA x 4, Robertson x 3, Salah x 3, Mendy
    SBI: Martial x 4, Rashford x 3; Mane x 5, Aguero.

If Michael Owen’s glorious mustache and witty commentary put a smile on your face every morning, then boy do I have an offer for you! Back to Square Owen is looking for an active FFS user to replace our AWOL teammate. We have a happening WhatsApp and after starting strong, have found ourselves in a Söyüncü-sized rut. Looking for an exciting winter signing to save us from benching Söyüncü every week. Direct all inquiries to aafutbolfan@gmail.com

No harm in tapping up players, but you will need to back it up with some big bids 🙂

How expensive can that Söyüncü be?

This looks fun. Is there somewhere I could read about the format so I understand properly?

Also, following Ask Yourself's comment, is there generally a history quality needed to get picked up?

This has the lions share of the info, but check out our next article that should come out later this week. That will have full draft details.

And to answer your second question, not necessarily. I would argue your current team's state is just as important, as is being active on FFS. Only one way to find out, and that's by registering.

      You'll be a great signing.
There has been chat of me getting dumped to make way for you but that's mostly come from Klopptomist who's trying to deflect from his own awful performance.

Guilty as charged. They can’t bin me off until I’ve made all the gravs though... 🙂

Also I’m beating Mark-O in our 1v1 H2H so it would be a downgrade getting him in for me 😉

Stop it, you're making 'downgrade' seem really sexy and appealing.

This season has been really intense given our OR being pretty close to each other and thus the intense 1v1 H2H 😉
