Mane carries strong FPL form onto the international stage

Our very first Scout Notes article of the November international break deals with the matches contested on Wednesday and the early part of Thursday.

We’ll be bringing you regular round-ups from across the globe over the coming week, detailing the minutes played and any injuries picked up.

A club-by-club list of the Fantasy Premier League assets on duty with their respective countries is available here.

Senegal 2-0 Congo

  • Cheikhou Kouyate (£4.9m) – 90 minutes
  • Sadio Mane (£12.1m) – 84 minutes
  • Ismaila Sarr (£6.2m) – 56 minutes

Sadio Mane (£12.1m) supplied the assist for Senegal’s second goal as they cruised to a 2-0 win over Congo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday.

Mane’s cross from the left was headed in by Habib Diallo as the hosts established a two-goal lead before half an hour had even been played.

The Liverpool winger was evidently enjoying himself as the gulf in class became apparent, with the premium FPL midfielder earning the usual rave reviews for his display.

On what was a suspect-looking surface, Mane (who cursed the turf after whistling one shot over the bar) appeared to have emerged from the encounter unscathed when being replaced on 84 minutes.

Ismaila Sarr (£6.2m) was not quite so lucky, reportedly picking up an ankle injury just after the interval and having to be substituted soon after.

The Watford winger has just returned from a hamstring injury that had limited his involvement at club level over the past month.

Crystal Palace’s Cheikhou Kouyate (£4.9m) played the full game in defence, as he often does for his country.

Mane and Senegal are next in action on Sunday against Eswatini.

Lebanon 0-0 South Korea

  • Son Heung-min (£9.6m) – 90 minutes

The 7.5% of FPL managers who own Son Heung-min (£9.6m) will have been relieved to see the Spurs midfielder come through the first of two games that he is scheduled to play over the November international break.

Son lasted the full 90 minutes in Beirut as South Korea kept up their unbeaten record in the World Cup 2022 qualification campaign, although the premium Fantasy asset and his country drew a blank for the second successive game as they were held to another goalless draw.

Son was reportedly kept quiet by the hosts and their defender Alex Melki.

South Korea next face Brazil in an international friendly in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday afternoon, giving Son just under four days to get back to the UK ahead of Spurs’ match against West Ham United in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

Nigeria 2-1 Benin

  • Wilfred Ndidi (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Alex Iwobi (£5.7m) – 90 minutes

Nigeria came from behind to get their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign off to a winning start.

Alex Iwobi (£5.7m) lasted the full 90 minutes in the number ten role he has occasionally occupied for Everton this season, with Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi (£5.0m) also completing the game further back in central midfield.

The Super Eagles next face Lesotho in another AFCON qualifier on Sunday.

Egypt 1-1 Kenya

  • Trezeguet (£5.2m) – 90 minutes
  • Victor Wanyama (£4.8m) – 90 minutes

As we mentioned previously, Mohamed Salah‘s (£12.3m) niggling ankle problem has seen him ruled out of Egypt’s two fixtures over the next week.

The premium midfielder had travelled to Africa for a consultation with the national team doctor and head coach but was subsequently excused from international duty.

Salah had been pictured with ice on his ankle after the Gameweek 12 win over Manchester City and was spotted wearing a protective boot when joining up with his country on Tuesday.

In the Liverpool winger’s absence, Egypt drew 1-1 with Kenya in their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.

Aston Villa winger Trezeguet (£5.2m) came close to scoring a winner but saw an 82nd-minute shot cleared off the line.

Both he and Victor Wanyama (£4.8m) lasted the full 90 minutes.

Jordan 0-1 Australia

  • Mathew Ryan (£4.7m) – 90 minutes
  • Aaron Mooy (£4.8m) – 90 minutes

The leading points-scorer among FPL goalkeepers had to be at his best to preserve Australia’s narrow lead in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Amman.

Mathew Ryan (£4.7m), who has four clean sheets, 11 save points and 11 bonus points to his name in FPL this season, produced an excellent low stop to keep out Hamza Al-Dardour’s header late on.

Ryan repelled another strike in stoppage time as Australia moved five points clear at the top of their group.

Aaron Mooy (£4.8m) also completed the game for the visitors, sending a free-kick off-target and seeing a shot deflected wide in the first half.

That was the Socceroos’ one and only fixture of the international break so the two Brighton teammates will now return to England in plenty of time for Gameweek 13.

Kyrgyzstan 0-2 Japan

  • Maya Yoshida (£4.4m) – 90 minutes

Maya Yoshida (£4.4m), who lost his place in the Southampton starting XI following a dismal display in the 9-0 loss to Leicester City, had an altogether more enjoyable evening in Bishkek on Thursday.

The Saints stopper earned his 100th cap for his national side in Japan’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Kyrgyzstan, completing the full 90 minutes.

Round-up

Bukayo Saka (£4.5m) claimed an assist in a 4-0 win over Luxembourg in the first of three matches that England under-19s will contest over the international break.

The 1.0%-owned Arsenal winger, whose run of six Premier League appearances was ended in Gameweek 12, lasted the first 71 minutes before being replaced by Everton’s Anthony Gordon (£4.5m).

Norwich City striker Adam Idah (£4.5m) played the first 86 minutes and set up the winner as the Republic of Ireland under-21s beat their Armenian counterparts 1-0.

We’ll round up the rest of Thursday’s matches in our next Scout Notes article tomorrow.

Going to get rid of one of my City mids. Would you get rid of Sterling or KDB?

I feel KDB is the one to keep but I hate having too much money in the bank.. just a psychological thing?

Have exact coin to do Salah + CHO > Mane + Tielemans for a -4, thoughts?

Not usually a fan of early transfers or hits but i've dropped from 30k > 200k in the last 4 weeks and have tried to stay patient but both of these guys could be looking at limited minutes over the coming weeks, would like some opinions.

That's a team I would leave as-is going into the next GW. Rico plays as Sub 1 if there's an injury then. That's not to say that there's not an upgrade available to you, but what you have there is 'fine'. Cantwell I'd probably move on for Tielemans possibly. If you absolutely can't stand keeping a FT saved.

Kneejerking seldom goes well and in a week with European or International games it can leave one up sh!t creek without a paddle.

Always best sleep on a transfer idea for a few days if possible as things nearly always look a bit different as the next deadline approaches.

theres a gazillion factors in play. one of those is team unity as they strive to win trophies. sterling and mendy dont want a twitter storm impacting the team so its in their interests to play it down irrespective to whether theyre offended or not.

    3. Brosstan

No because twitter "racism" (its laughable to call something racist while simultaneously claiming there was no racist intent) is all about being offended and liberals are only offended on the behalf of minorities.

I can't understand why the club's who pay massive wages don't vet every social media post the players create!? Everytime you want to write a post it goes to a dedicated person at the club to make sure your not saying something stupid or that could be perceived as offensive. Easy

As a Robbo owner from the start of the season Trent has been more attacking than him but has just been little unlucky and there is still only 5 points diff between them with TAA at 7.2 so if you have any one just hold on to them no need to shuffle and go for other when one has little dry spell

stupid. they booed sterling at the start of a world cup game because of his form. result first, politics second.

There is a large scum element that follows England. I’ve only ever been to one game and the atmosphere was toxic. Ironically it was against Poland at Old Trafford and they booed Crouch when he came on for no reason other than that they didn’t think he was good enough.

Same here, one at Wembley circa 2000, one at Old Trafford about 13 years ago (if memory serves). At both games (including the latter which was a thrashing so you'd think the mood would be joyous) the atmosphere could only be described as grim. No intention to go again any time soon.

Yes. Anyone. Just anyone. Poor form individually, poor form for the team, huge allocation of resources, and the terrible temptation to captain him. Anyone from Aguero to Firmino to Jiménez or Abraham.

take a punt on auba for his fixtures (although its a real punt at this stage given his form)
      move to tammy vardy
or downgrade to mousset or even greenwood and use the cash elsewhere. could get son for "cover" if you want that.

Hi guys. I can’t decide who to captain for the life of me next week. 3 choices. Vardy (bha) Aubameyang (SOT) or Sterling (CHE).

I’m sure Vardy will get something. Quite fancy him up against that defence with Dunk out and has served me well last few weeks but Auba could run riot unless Soton park the bus and could be more of a differential pick then people realise. Sure he’s due a double digit haul soon and has some juicy fixtures despite Arsenal being out of form. Any advice guys ?

City v Chelsea could be end to end stuff and sterling could run riot too.

Any views or help appreciated guys ?

I had a little look at the stats yesterday and IMO -among my players- the best captains this week in rank order are:
          1. Mane
          2. Sterling
          3. Vardy

I originally had it on Vardy but currently have it on Raheem for a slight differential (I expect the other two to be more popular picks).

Where would you rank auba if you had him. RMT says captain him. I don’t have Mané. That’s my next move. Sterling does well in the bigger games though and can him counter attackimg at pace as Chelsea will go there and take risks and want to win which will work in sterling’s favour

I avoid Arsenal like the plague so haven't really been paying attention to them the last few games. But I think if you have him you've probably got to captain him with that fixture.

From what I gather from the stats, it seems Palace have been extremely fortunate to concede as few goals as they have at home, they are close to the bottom of a few of the shots allowed categories.

The three teams who have failed to score against Palace at home were Everton & Villa early on (and both teams had very average starts to the season) and Norwich. Leicester and City both cruised 0-2.

Agreed. I’ve got martial and enjoy having him (when he actually plays) could have had a load more points against Brighton too. Him and Rashford work well together. Quite tempted to get double up with rash but got Vardy
Auba and Tammy and cant bring myself to get rid of any of them at mo. Waiting for an excuse tho lol.

      Looks fine.
I'm going to (C) Salah only because CP have been giving up tons of chances at home recently and Brighton have been solid at home recently. If Salah isn't fit or is looking iffy for the game I'm simply moving over to Mane(C). Might do that anyway actually. Vardy(C) could be huge just as easily with that form he's in. Sheesh, guy is on fire.
It's one of those either way things and what ever your gut tells you go with it.
I also think you could be a few weeks early on Martial but at least he'll play and likely be OOP as long as he doesn't break himself again. Blades at home are tough and then Spurs and the Manchester derby before it gets really juicy for him. He could smoke Villa in there too.
Hopefully Kane starts firing for club like he's doing for country. He's become one helluva mild differential.

      Good luck

Martial is on fire, I think the time is now, as long as he doesn't break like you said haha.

Salah cappy is solid too.... so hard to pick.

I meant hold the transfer. And yeah, hold Mount too. You could consider Pulisic for him but I think Fat Frank will jerk Pulisic straight out of the lineup as soon as he blanks and bring CHO back in.
