Mane carries strong FPL form onto the international stage

Our very first Scout Notes article of the November international break deals with the matches contested on Wednesday and the early part of Thursday.

We’ll be bringing you regular round-ups from across the globe over the coming week, detailing the minutes played and any injuries picked up.

A club-by-club list of the Fantasy Premier League assets on duty with their respective countries is available here.

Senegal 2-0 Congo

  • Cheikhou Kouyate (£4.9m) – 90 minutes
  • Sadio Mane (£12.1m) – 84 minutes
  • Ismaila Sarr (£6.2m) – 56 minutes

Sadio Mane (£12.1m) supplied the assist for Senegal’s second goal as they cruised to a 2-0 win over Congo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday.

Mane’s cross from the left was headed in by Habib Diallo as the hosts established a two-goal lead before half an hour had even been played.

The Liverpool winger was evidently enjoying himself as the gulf in class became apparent, with the premium FPL midfielder earning the usual rave reviews for his display.

On what was a suspect-looking surface, Mane (who cursed the turf after whistling one shot over the bar) appeared to have emerged from the encounter unscathed when being replaced on 84 minutes.

Ismaila Sarr (£6.2m) was not quite so lucky, reportedly picking up an ankle injury just after the interval and having to be substituted soon after.

The Watford winger has just returned from a hamstring injury that had limited his involvement at club level over the past month.

Crystal Palace’s Cheikhou Kouyate (£4.9m) played the full game in defence, as he often does for his country.

Mane and Senegal are next in action on Sunday against Eswatini.

Lebanon 0-0 South Korea

  • Son Heung-min (£9.6m) – 90 minutes

The 7.5% of FPL managers who own Son Heung-min (£9.6m) will have been relieved to see the Spurs midfielder come through the first of two games that he is scheduled to play over the November international break.

Son lasted the full 90 minutes in Beirut as South Korea kept up their unbeaten record in the World Cup 2022 qualification campaign, although the premium Fantasy asset and his country drew a blank for the second successive game as they were held to another goalless draw.

Son was reportedly kept quiet by the hosts and their defender Alex Melki.

South Korea next face Brazil in an international friendly in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday afternoon, giving Son just under four days to get back to the UK ahead of Spurs’ match against West Ham United in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

Nigeria 2-1 Benin

  • Wilfred Ndidi (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Alex Iwobi (£5.7m) – 90 minutes

Nigeria came from behind to get their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign off to a winning start.

Alex Iwobi (£5.7m) lasted the full 90 minutes in the number ten role he has occasionally occupied for Everton this season, with Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi (£5.0m) also completing the game further back in central midfield.

The Super Eagles next face Lesotho in another AFCON qualifier on Sunday.

Egypt 1-1 Kenya

  • Trezeguet (£5.2m) – 90 minutes
  • Victor Wanyama (£4.8m) – 90 minutes

As we mentioned previously, Mohamed Salah‘s (£12.3m) niggling ankle problem has seen him ruled out of Egypt’s two fixtures over the next week.

The premium midfielder had travelled to Africa for a consultation with the national team doctor and head coach but was subsequently excused from international duty.

Salah had been pictured with ice on his ankle after the Gameweek 12 win over Manchester City and was spotted wearing a protective boot when joining up with his country on Tuesday.

In the Liverpool winger’s absence, Egypt drew 1-1 with Kenya in their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.

Aston Villa winger Trezeguet (£5.2m) came close to scoring a winner but saw an 82nd-minute shot cleared off the line.

Both he and Victor Wanyama (£4.8m) lasted the full 90 minutes.

Jordan 0-1 Australia

  • Mathew Ryan (£4.7m) – 90 minutes
  • Aaron Mooy (£4.8m) – 90 minutes

The leading points-scorer among FPL goalkeepers had to be at his best to preserve Australia’s narrow lead in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Amman.

Mathew Ryan (£4.7m), who has four clean sheets, 11 save points and 11 bonus points to his name in FPL this season, produced an excellent low stop to keep out Hamza Al-Dardour’s header late on.

Ryan repelled another strike in stoppage time as Australia moved five points clear at the top of their group.

Aaron Mooy (£4.8m) also completed the game for the visitors, sending a free-kick off-target and seeing a shot deflected wide in the first half.

That was the Socceroos’ one and only fixture of the international break so the two Brighton teammates will now return to England in plenty of time for Gameweek 13.

Kyrgyzstan 0-2 Japan

  • Maya Yoshida (£4.4m) – 90 minutes

Maya Yoshida (£4.4m), who lost his place in the Southampton starting XI following a dismal display in the 9-0 loss to Leicester City, had an altogether more enjoyable evening in Bishkek on Thursday.

The Saints stopper earned his 100th cap for his national side in Japan’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Kyrgyzstan, completing the full 90 minutes.

Round-up

Bukayo Saka (£4.5m) claimed an assist in a 4-0 win over Luxembourg in the first of three matches that England under-19s will contest over the international break.

The 1.0%-owned Arsenal winger, whose run of six Premier League appearances was ended in Gameweek 12, lasted the first 71 minutes before being replaced by Everton’s Anthony Gordon (£4.5m).

Norwich City striker Adam Idah (£4.5m) played the first 86 minutes and set up the winner as the Republic of Ireland under-21s beat their Armenian counterparts 1-0.

We’ll round up the rest of Thursday’s matches in our next Scout Notes article tomorrow.

Tough one. I think you could wait. The tough part is not having one of Mount or Pulisic. Just think City and Chelsea defenses are both suspect and with everyone coming back from internationals they could all be a little laggy leading to a shootout game. 3-2, 4-3 type stuff.

Maddison at Brighton this week is no gimme. Brighton have been solid at home lately in terms of chances conceded.

All that said, probably 0-0 City/Chelsea and Leicester wins 5-0. lol

    Hello very dead zone.
Some of the common and fairly logical recommendations around here are moving for example:-
    Mount to Pulisic
    McGinn to Trossard
And other such moves that seem to make sense from the outside.
I have been playing the game for a while now and have a reasonable record, developed by some "not so obvious" recommendations from others.
Please think about each move carefully this time of year.
It is appropriate to have players playing regularly and when considering a player like Pulisic, the need for bench cover is more important.
No matter the obvious skills he has, he has competition (CHO) who will no doubt play in his place up to as much as 50% of the time.
A good bench and a decent bench who can cover rotation would be advisable.

    Good afternoon DZ.

    Here's my conundrum.

    Hold Son for another week?

    Pros.
    - Great differential.
    - Whm in terrible form. Makes it a good fixture.
    - Pulisic and Martial have tough games against City and away at Sheffield respectively.

    Cons.
    - Son has two international games ahead of an early kick off.
    - Pulisic and Martial both not participating in IB.
    - I'll want to do the transfer eventually anyway.

    Stick or twist?

    Thanks.

Need some advice guys! Want a triple Liv for their upcoming fixtures. I'm currently leaning towards A but it is an -8 hit. 1FT, 0.3 ITB. Which option looks best:

    A) Sterling, Rico/Navarro, Maupay --> Maddison, Robbo, Jiminez (-8)
    B) Sterling --> Salah (Free)
    C) Maupay + Cantwell --> Tielemans + Greenwood (-4). (will play a 3-5-2)

    Team:
    Pope
Soy / TAA / Lund (Rico*, Navarro*)
Sterling* / KDB / Mount / Mane (Cantwell*)
    Abraham / Vardy / Maupay*

With Kane scoring 3 last night for England it’s thrown me back in to the keep or lose Kane from my FPL team conundrum.

How far does or should International form impact our thinking in terms of FPL assets? Should we hold or sell players based on what they do for their countries? Or is it all about their clubs and what they are doing in the league?

I wouldn't touch Kane or any spurs asset with a bargepole right now. Much better cheaper assets performing so much better right now. Tammy, Vardy and Jimi being the main ones.

To be honest, any past result has limited bearing on a future result.
Using half of one's brain will assist in telling you that 3 goals against such opposition has very little impact on a premiership game.
It is possible on this site to create a Kane bandwagon no matter what the circumstances.

If I remember correctly Kane started the season with his usual August horror show. Went away on the IB, promptly scored a couple of braces for England In the WC qualifiers then scored 30 PL goal that season. So, in answer to your question, International football might not be of the highest level football (montenegro were league 2 level at best) but it certainly gives confidence to Kane and gets him back on track. I would keep if I had him but wait and see if I didn't. He will come good.

Absolutely loving the Vardy party. Kane is a lot of budget which is my issue - if he were Vardy’s price I’d wait it out knowing he’ll come good but in reality that England team (even against lower level opposition) is a far better prospect than Spurs in terms of service to Kane

None of the big hitters are performing atm. You have Salah and KDB. Vardy and Kane. Kane could be Aguero but his game time is questionable. He could be Auba but he plays for a very inconsistent Arsenal (even though they play Southampton and Norwich next. Shifting CHO would be my biggest concern. However if you need funds then switching Kane out to Jimi and CHO to Maddison or Pulisic may have to happen. Kanes fixtures aren't that bad though and I personally don't believe Spurs form will continue as in recent weeks they have started to pick up. You have a tough one this GW. GL.

I think the argument can be built both ways. So it's a case by case basis.

In your case (Kane) (And I have Son) - it depends on your overall ranking and goals/approach.

Kane WILL come through - Son too albeit a little less.
These 2 will be huge differentials, and will have a massive impact on our OR - could be both positive or negative.

So if you're chasing, keep and watch. If you want to secure a position or
balance your squad, get rid of.

This guy can easily bang 6 goals in 2 games, happened 2 seasons ago right after I held him for 11 games and then sold.

As much as i'd love to have him - we have a bad mojo so I went for Son as my differential.

We beat Germany or the like 7-0 then maybe a rethink on players but not Montenegro.

Kane playing a different role at Spurs. Maybe not as extreme but reminds a bit of Rooney when he was trying to do a bit of everything at a limited Utd but none of it that well.

Easy easy keep, West Ham's goalkeeper may as well turn up with a bunch of flowers, a red nose and size 21 feet in an exploding mini. The hattrick is largely irrelevant though, the Montenegro defence could all squeeze into that mini

International football is obviously a different competition but we’ve come to learn and expect some ups and downs from certain EPL managers

I wouldn’t bring in someone based on their int’l form but I would usually be wary of minutes and how that can effect the players we own

Price changes this season have been crazy and I can’t keep up with them so I would rather miss out on those price changes than do early moves based on international breaks

    9. VanDijksToWatchOutFor
      • 6 Years
      4 years, 4 months ago

The key thing for me is confidence gained or lost in these breaks. Good players don't suddenly get bad, but their roles in a team can change. For a player like kane I think it would depend on, after feeling great against Montenegro, does he come back to Tottenham happier and more confident, or does he go back through that door and feel like he's back from holiday?

I think international form can be overstated, due to entirely different teams around these players and often sub par opponents, but confidence always seems to be the missing word in any discussion of form, and that's what I'd be looking at.

However, I'm not touching Kane. There are so many mid priced assets doing well that I prefer to split a premium into a few of these. Good luck, Sam.

Will have to sell KDB and Connolly/Cantwell for a hit and get Maddi/Tielemans/Martial/Jimenez.

Yup I also like the idea of those options.

How about Tielemans & Martial or Maddison & Jimenez?
Those 2 options leave me with enough money for Mount to Pulisic next week.

Yeah Tielemans could cover Maddison just about so Tielemans, Martial and Pulisic is awesome, prefer Martial over Jiminez

    E - Save!

      A

Palace are looking toothless in top 6 match ups lately. Soy has been great of course but Robbo has a much higher ceiling surely. Mount has great fixtures around the corner and looks a very decent 4th mid.

But looking ahead I'd want to shift Pope and Cantwell on - what is there in the bank?

Need a couple of fresh thoughts

    Current team:

    Henderson - Heaton
    Ota - Soy - Lund - Pieters - Tomori
    KDB - Mane - Son - Cantwell - Dendo
    Jimi - Tammy - Vardy

1 Transfer and 3.4 ITB.First fire to put out is Ota. Next on my chopping board for the few weeks are Cantwell, KDB, Pieters, Heaton.

Any thoughts on what line needs reinforcing? I have the money to upgrade.

4-3-3 looks a perfectly viable approach so long as Son fires. Tomori and Soy feels like an either or really though.

with Ota and Pieters gone, im aiming at Robertson and Stevens/Chilwel/Janmat so ill have a good back 5.

Son is my differential pick amongst this template. I want my differential to be explosive and thats him. he could easily swapped with anyone.

Midfield plan in 3 weeks: Mane - D Silva - Martial - Son - Pulisic

          Decent call in principle.

I've had him and Kane recently but Spurs look so troubled that I've moved on. Think they'll both look value at some point but waiting for Spurs to click domestically. When the template changes Spurs and United seem favourites to me to be the busters - perhaps when Chelsea run out of energy.

Hmm, Milner has played left back more than he has right back though, plus Robbo has the ankle problem and Gomez is needed to cover the centre half’s. Up to you though, mate, could go either way really.

Looking at something similar with KdB and Maddison (with Ings in reserve).

Martial is my doubt. I'm uncertain about those fixtures. It's either him or Robbo in my case. Just edging towards Robbo atm on the basis of fixtures. SU City Spurs and Everton?

But having started the season with him and researching his returns when fit he feels like a really good pick given his ceiling.

      Torn.

Should add I suspect Sterling may well get a rest soon given fixture congestion but I suppose IB rest may give him an edge

I think DSilva is seriously being overlooked as a decent differential option in the same price bracket as Maddi, Pulisic, Martial. I am seriously considering a Mid 5 that is as follows: Mane, Maddison, Martial, Pulisic/Mount, DSilva, with a front 3 of Vardy, Jimenez and Abraham. No Sterling or KDB also allows me to have a bac 5 of TAA, Chilwell, Lundy, Tomori and Janmaat.

            Dilva is a fascinating option.

I'm backing City to explode goals despite fixtures. The issue I have with him is the 1 pointer cameo. There have been 2/3 so far - much easier if he was a sure fire 0 pointer! Having a strong bench with him could be a real bind.

That said his overall returns are spot on and he's getting decent minutes generally. Just point shy of Maddison after all.

If you're looking for a long term hold I can't look past McGinn.

He's absolutely nailed and has returns in 3 top 6 encounters so fixtures don't seem so critical. I see him ticking over at the same rate to season's end quite possibly. When Mount catapulted to 6.9 from 6.0 he rose just 0.4 from 5.5 despite very similar returns - think people are put off by his low value!

    LOOKING FOR ADVICE GENTS.

    Currently have

    POPE (Button)
    PEREIRA / LUNDSTRAM / TOMORI / RICO / (Saiss)
    MANE / STERLING / KDB / TEILEMANS / (Traore)
    VARDY / ABRAHAM (king).

Thinking of ditching Sterling or KDB for the OX as Salah is out, and potential for a good differential. Think I need more Liverpool and Sheff UTD (after this week).

    I have 0.8ITB and 1FT.

Thoughts are KING - FIRMINO and STERLING or KDB - OX.

Then week after BUTTON - HENDERSON

    Anything obvious I'm missing

    Advice/comments very much appreciated.

I have Martial and TAA so I am biased about double Pool defense.
It seems the most appropriate may of benching Backs in GW18. One must remember most of us are packed out with Chelsea and Leicester so expect returns to be poor this particular gameweek.
At the moment I cab expect low scores for Vardy Soy Tielemans Abraham and Pulisic. With my bench being full of Pool players this week I can only hope I maneuver my players better than my opposition.
There is not a game where I can expect good returns from any team, so a FH seems a waste.
