Which FPL players are most involved at set-piece situations?

We take a closer look at set-piece takers in this latest Members’ article.

For those who are unaware, our Set Pieces tab details the expected corner-kick, free-kick and penalty takers for each Premier League side.

Subscribers can also see which players are getting onto the end of dead-ball deliveries, with headed attempts from set plays also chronicled.

The lists are based on a mix of information gathered from this season’s matches, last season’s numbers and pre-season friendlies, and are updated after every Gameweek as new information becomes available.

In the piece below, we study the dead-ball specialists and their teams in greater detail.

    Pope Button
    TAA Soy Lund Tomori Montoya
    Salah KDB Maddison Mount Hayden
    Vardy Jimenez Abraham

Have 2.7m ITB and original plan was to get Robertson for Montoya but I’m pretty happy with playing 2 of Lund/Soy/Tomori Evert week. Thoughts on:

    A) KDB -> Mané
    B) Mount -> Martial/Pulisic and ~2m ITB (maybe Montoya > PvA or Pope -> Alison)
    C) Just get Robbo

      A) out of those, because Mane is a must have imo. but losing KDB could hurt alot. Especially if you bought him at 9.5

Is Connoly ok as bench fodder for the festive period?

Would ideally like to replace him by one of Mousset/Ayew, but not keen on downgrading elsewhere for the extra 0.3 needed:

    Pope (4.0)
    TAA Soy Lund Rico Willems
    Salah Mane KDB Mount Tielemans
    Vardy Tammy Connoly.

      Even worse than Sanchez.
I don't think he'll come to United though. China seems only possible destination IMO as no one is going to afford those astronomical wages

    2. Piggs Boson
      • 12 Years
      4 years, 4 months ago

It depends on the length of the contract and the amount of wages. If he comes earning 600k a week on a 5 year deal, then yeah, it's bad.

But he will undoubtedly add quality to the front line and finally make United threatening down a right-ring that has been limp for years. But at 30, how long will he offer that quality?

I don’t believe the rumours personally.

Olé is targeting young & hungry players. Bale is neither of those.

I do think Utd have genuine interest in Sancho and I think we’ll move for him in January as he seems to be having problems at Dortmund.

Unfortunately because we’ve slipped so far since Fergie times, I don’t think he’ll even consider coming to Utd though.

    4. El Presidente

Depends on his mindset really. What is he looking for? Revamp his career and establish himself as one of the greats in the PL.... or have a quite 3,4 years more revamping his already fat bank account?

I could see him only as a very short term object, but doubt it. If Bale still wants to show that he's got it, there might be some interest, but other long term issues are problematic.

I don't believe that at all, I think the links to Haaland and Sancho are more realistic. By realistic, I mean who we want, not necessarily who we'll be able to sign.

I’m sure this gets said every year... but doesnt it seem like we’ve all got extremely similar teams (at least on this site anyway).

Vardy, Ryan/Pope, Lundy, Mané, TAA, Abraham & Mount are almost universally owned on FFS. Then there’s the supporting cast of Soy, Tomori, Rico, Robbo, Salah, KDB/Sterling & Jimmy. That’s pretty much the whole squad that is template.

The only people I’ve got who I feel are somewhat of a differential are Martial & Maddy (who are quickly moving toward template anyway).

Any ideas for who will be the next player people will be scrambling to get in? Who will you be targeting to get/stay ahead of the game?

For me I’m looking at Pulisic (only a slight differential admittedly) & Zaha for his upcoming fixtures.

Kind of agree with him, there seems a pretty strong template on here. Guessing rank will be defined by how people got to the template as it wasn't the template from the start.

If Maddy is really injured, I’d assume Tielemans would be on set pieces, which makes him too good to ignore.

Went for the Salah/Mané double very early so the combination itself felt like a differential back then. Could be wrong.

The players I own and think will become more owned are Trossard, Pulisic and Chillwell.

    5. Amey

Yeah fair point! Probably only 3/4 players id change at the moment. I do worry about not using the WC early enough though to utilise more fixtures? What are your thoughts on that?

      I’d definitely make that transfer.

I think most would say to get Maddy (if fit) over Martial.

But id go for Martial personally. His PPM is very impressive & Utd fixtures turning difficult doesn’t worry me. Utd tend to do well against the better teams as they can play on the counter

      A & D are great because

B & C are good picks too but don't trust Tony with Injury record + attitude issues (can change If he stays fit for 4-5 weeks) & Pulisic has Cho on his neck.

    Would you rather have:

50 points behind my mini league, and overall rank of 470k. With a move to Robertson, my team becomes super template, while Van Aanholt would be a huge differential. What do you think?

    Lascelles to:

    A: Robertson
    B: Van Aanholt
    C: ???

    Gazzaniga, Ryan

    TAA, Tomori, Lascelles, Lunds, Kelly

Mane, KDB, Mount, D. James, Saka

    Vardy, Abraham, Jimenez

      Robbo

50 points is nothing right now. I like PvA a lot and would have him ahead of Tomori in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 but no real contest.

If PvA is too expensive for you to consider as bench then look at Ward. The double up with Kelly guarantees you a Palace defender and their run is amazing.

(Started the season with Ward Kelly double up)

    Mount ➡️ Maddison/Tielemans for free?

Will sell one fo the City mids next week for Pulisic/Martial/Son and upgrade in other areas.

    Thoughts?

      Good plan
Maddison is the obvious pick if you have the ££ which i didn't so gone for Tielemans myself

Maddison probably the more safer pick but I do like Tielemans as a differential. Think they will score similar points by the end of it.

They will. Variance in the gw 17 will be most important though when they face Norwich 😀
I've tripled up till gw 17.
          Will sell Tielemans after that

Yup that's my plan too want to double up on Leicester attack for the next 5 gameweeks. Think they better options than the other similarly priced mids as they are nailed on to play 90 every week without worrying about EL or CL.

              Yep
Same thought process. Nice to see someone else in the same boat 😀

yes maddison of the two for set pieces and general threat, mount could just as easily start firing again though

Mount's stats paint a completely different story though. Willian & Pulisic both better than him.

I see why, particularly with this week’s fixture tempting to move out Mount but he could do well against the City defence and is nailed in Chelsea side. I think worth keeping and carry transfer

I think this might be the perfect week to sell him. His stats haven't take a dip and Willian/Pulisic have taken over his corner duties as well.

    Quick question:
    A) keep Mount or B) get Söyüncü

Already have Tammy for Chelsea & Vardy for Leicester. Plan to get Pulisic for Dilva next week.

      Strange choice 😀
      I'd pick Soyuncu.

        Haha oops let me rephrase.
        A) Mount, Söyüncü
        B) Tomori, Tielemans

Will have Vardy, Tammy & Pulisic next gw. Thinking of transferring out mount or Tomori to get Pulisic in.
