FPL Question Time – Consult our panel ahead of Gameweek 13

Following the final international break of 2019, Fantasy Premier League returns this weekend.

Gameweek 13 certainly feels like a long time since the last round of action and we are sure you have plenty of dilemmas and questions.

That’s why we’ve assembled another panel of managers to help you out…

WHO’S ON THE PANEL THIS WEEK?

Rainy: A long-serving Fantasy Football Scout moderator with a best finish of 3,585. Has always been grateful for the existence of Theo Walcott after he saved his Gameweek three years ago.

Maximus Bonimus Pointimus: Veteran Fantasy Football Scout member, poster, and widely acknowledged as a bastion of truth, logic and reason in the wild world of Fantasy football discussion. Currently pursuing an elusive fifth top 10k finish, and with an overall career-best rank of 958th, the highs and lows of 12 FPL campaigns have left him completely desensitised to seeing good players get bad scores in good fixtures – and vice-versa!

Karan14: FFS community member who has finished in the top 10k in each of the last three seasons.

Which moves do you prefer of these? Thanks :

A - Auba, Perez, Mount > Jimenez, Tielemans, Son -4
    B - Auba, Perez > Jimenez, Son.
    C - Auba, Perez > Lacazette, Maddison
D - Auba, Perez, KDB > Jimenez, Salah (if deemed fit?), Maddison -4

If robbo is a concern it worth using a FT to get Trent instead?

Or you reckon its an IB 'injury'

A nice analysis piece here - not going to make me give him the armband but it's a tempting differential for anyone on for a punt:

I've had success captaining defenders - Baines, Alonso, even TAA last year, but there are too many good attacking options in my opinion to captain a defender.

Yep. I don’t see this as the year for this to reliably pay off

Mendy is next on my hitlist. Such poor value given no guarantee of starting. Throw in City's fixtures, Christmas looming and his injury record, and it's a no-brainer.

Surface level analysis with tons of words. Could be summarized with one sentence; "Palace bad at attacking"

      1. Don Kloppeone
        • 6 Years
        4 years, 4 months ago

        Not untrue ...

        Maybe slightly expanded to
“Palace bad at attacking and particularly poor at defending on Trent’s flank”

I might actually go for it, was debating it yesterday and seeing this has increased my interest further. Probably a mistake but brighton at home aren't a bad team so idk about Vardy. Son I have uncertainties about whether or not he'll start. KDB would maybe be a better option but I do fancy a punt.

      1. Don Kloppeone
        • 6 Years

I don’t think Vardy will have as much of an issue breaking through as people think. No Dunk will disarm BHA also.

      1. Don Kloppeone
        • 6 Years

It’s def a lot of words and, as Brosstan said, it could do with a:

TL;DR: “Palace bad at attacking and particularly poor at defending on Trent’s side of the pitch”

    6. Conik

He clearly should be in consideration in a week where nobody seems a big favourite to run up a really big win. Purely from watching games he seems to be unlucky to have as few points as he does. The very fact that fantasy football punishes defenders so heavily for the first goal they concede compared to all other ones adds a huge amount of variance to defender points.

Having said that, I believe the other attacking options still edge it, as usual.

Completely agree. The stats/ eye test all point to him being a great option. FPL realities, however, will always disadvantage defenders

So another 90 mins for Son with South Korea. See below his involvement during International Breaks and gameweeks that follow. Would be good to get some people's thoughts on his involvement on Saturday (3 days rest). It seems that we pay a lot more attention to Son on his International breaks than other players, perhaps due to the extra travelling(?). My thoughts are that he'll come on for the last 30 mins.

    IB1: 62 mins (H Georgia), 90 mins (A Turkmenistan).
    GW5 (H) vs Crystal Palace 90mins, 2 goals

    IB2: 62 mins (H Sri Lanka), 90 mins (A North Korea).
    GW9 (H) vs Watford 45mins, 0 returns

IB3: 90 mins (Away to Lebonon), 90 mins (Away to Brazil (Abu Dhabi)
    GW10 (A) vs West Ham ???

I was wary before the IB about Son and hoped he would have played less minutes. It's enough to deter me from giving the captaincy but I'm still hopeful he can do well if given the minutes like you say

I just feel he is too low ownership to hold on for now (red arrow considering most others have higher ownership, better value in-form options in Maddison, Martial, Pulisic, etc.). You never know what you're going to get with West Ham.

Yep I agree, but I think more so later in the season. Staying with the pack with all the highly owned in-form players early on is a differential in itself. We all play the game differently though!

    Hows this team?

    Guaita
    Robertson / Trent / Pereira / Lundstram / Tomori
    Maddison / Mane / KDB / Pulisic / Hayden
    Ayew / Vardy / Tammy

Will play 4-4-2 most weeks with one of Lund/Tomori

Ayew is there for cover and can potentally play if lund/tomori have a bad fixture

Thankyou, iv been playing around with Wildcard (which im gonna use next week i think)

Should set me up nicely for the Xmas period and the liverpool blank. Think Robbo/Trent/Periera gonna get some big hauls soon and should finish the season as the top3 defenders.

Only debate is if i go with Jiminez or Martial and downgrade Ayew and Pereira

Will be interesting to see what the centre back pairing will be when he returns.
Tomori likely to keep his spot, but surely Zouma will see some minutes over Xmas too.

Took a look at his minutes when Rudiger was back. R played 45 mins in GW5 and Tomori still played 90 mins that week. As you say, intelligent to keep an eye on him but I am not convinced he will lose his place

Don't think Jim is worth it right now. Lots of EL action followed by City Liverpool. He'll tick over but Martial or double Liverpool defence offers a higher top end.

My alternative with Son looks like this and I could be there by 16 with a hit and some cash itb from 105

          Guaita
          TAA Soy Tomori Lund Rico

Case for PVA as differential from gw14-21

    - Great fixtures (bur BOU wat BHA new WHU sot nor)

    - Great attacking threat. No defender has more goals in last 4 pl seasons than PVA

People say palace cannot be trusted but i think PVA is great option against lesser sides

    Palace First 12 gws

Against (tot MCI ars LEI che mu ) they have conceded 13 goals (0cs)

Against (EVE shu AVL WOL NOR whu) they have conceded just 3 goals. (3cs)

I can see 4 cs and some attacking returns for PVA in that great run of fixtures

    Anyone interested?

But I'd be tempted to go Tielemans over Maddison (just gone Maddison!). Think Jim has the lowest top side of them all and he has lots of EL coming up and then City Liverpool to follow. I'll be getting him in the New Year after those fixtures quite probably

        Wolves thrives on counterattacks.
Don't see any problem in Jimenez pick myself.

He'll tick over but don't see a big top side.

His returns have been great but swollen by late winning goals for baps. Not sure I see that continuing. I've gone Ings (who has matched his goal returns but not baps) to enable a power midfield possibly with KdB Mane Son Maddison Pulisic next week. Ings is a playing bench option when Pep rotates as I'm fairly sure he will.

          Time will tell.

    Hi folks

    Is this move sound? Connolly+CHO --> D.Jota+Hayden

    Team is
    Pope -- Mcgovern
    TAA -- Tomori -- Lundstram -- Soy -- Rico
    KDB -- Sterling -- Mane -- Tielemans -- CHO
    Vardy -- Tammy -- Connolly

Got 2 FT, and i think I will give Sterling and KDB a go against Chelsea and wait a GW or 2 to decide who to downgrade and which Pool-player to triple up.

    Thanks!

looks good. depth is good for xmas break. However- I do think Soy and Lund (especially Lund) can be every week starters so I'd be tempted to upgrade mount to pulisic and downgrade soy to rico if you won't play him most weeks. Just a thought.

          my team is this 2FT/0.4ITB

          Pope
          TAA, Lundstram, Janmaat, Rico, Soyuncu
          Sterling, KdB, Mane, Mount, Martial
          Tammy, Jimenez, Connolly

And I would do Connolly, Sterling and Rico out for Robbo, Vardy and Hayden (-4)

Who has a triple up on CHE attack?

I have Mount Pulisic and Abraham.

I was thinking of moving Mount on but he is still a damn fine option so might just keep him.

Those who are keeping Mount, what are your reasons?

    1. pingissimus
      • 5 Years

      Likewise on the triple up

I could hold for a while and fiddle with defence. Mount is first sub this week and rotates with Ings perhaps in 14/5. Think Pep will rotate the big hitters for the Burnley Newcastle fixtures sports a strong first bench seems prudent.

If I ditch Mount it will be to get Son. Off template and very high ceiling. but need to see Spurs wake up first.

Don’t think it’s scaremongering. He’s in a protective boot and could realistically miss the next game. Plus we’ll get nothing concrete from Klopp.

A protective boot is nothing imo, he could realistically not miss the game as well, i’m sure Klopp has to mention at least something about it i reckon. Personally i think he’ll be fine to play, the man has just had two weeks off for crying out loud.
