Mourinho replaces sacked Pochettino as Spurs head coach

It has been an eventful 12 hours at Tottenham Hotspur as they lost and gained a head coach quite literally overnight.

On Tuesday evening it was announced that Mauricio Pochettino had been sacked from his position at the north London club after five and a half years in charge.

That came after Spurs had managed just three wins and five draws from their opening 12 Premier League matches of the season, a record good enough only for 14th place.

Their Champions League campaign was also not without its problems, epitomised in a 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich earlier this season.

Just as the football world was reeling from the surprise departure on their way into bed, we all emerged the next morning to an arguably even more seismic development.

Jose Mourinho is back.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager was appointed Spurs’ new head coach in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Whether he has the desired effect there, after his two most recent managerial spells ended sourly, remains to be seen.

However, it should all make for interesting viewing when his new side travel to West Ham in Gameweek 13…

“I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.” – Jose Mourinho

We will do our best to bring you a Scout Report on Jose Mourinho, and what we believe he will bring to Spurs, as soon as possible.

I hope we get the old school Chelsea mourinho and not the stroppy, stubborn Man Utd mourinho.

While I do somewhat agree that the crowd is very fickle and Man City players are out of fashion at this moment, I think it is dangerous to hold and captain Sterling. The stats show that he plays much more wide and there are a load of other players showing much higher goal threat these days.

There are better options I think than Sterling right now. Plus, Liverpool and Leicester are in form and have tremendous fixtures. It makes sense to me to take the risk and go without Sterling. KDB is different for me, as he is so involved in set pieces and he is much cheaper. It's possible to pair him with Mane, Salah or both in midfield.

No I agree the relationship isn’t linear but it can sometimes be a useful source of signs of progress. As I’m on a -4 I won’t be losing Salah unless he’s officially declared out for a while.

I know what you mean re the differential shout but capping him this week may be on a hiding to nowhere as he could easily be limited to a cameo to aid his recovery and he’s not known for his explosive returns coming off the bench

Those still with WC. Whats the plan?
      A) ASAP, next week maybe, deal with GW18 with transfers and strong bench
      B) GW18 load up on MCI, get rid of LIV or 1 on bench maybe
      C) GW19-20 since have used transfers to move out LIV, now want them back

        C most sensible.
In fact, a WC at this time of the year has far less value than early on.
I don't have it and barring catastrophes I can manipulate my squad around GW 18 and beyond quite easily.
Citeh and Pool are fixture proof anyway.

So, a bit of a stretch, but Spurs under Mou will probably revert to his 4-2-3-1. This is just an informal guess:

GK - Gazza seemingly some nothing wrong, he stays
CB - I can see a return to the Belgium due, especially Toby, since Mou coveted him. Sanchez and Foyth could potentially be farmed out to RB, in an Ivanovic style.
Full backs - still a no go, I’m not convinced you could rely on Aurier in a Mourinho system. We’d all like to say a certain name at left back, but who knows
Mids - Despite his form, Eriksen will have that number 10 role to himself - he’s known for his energy, so could do that ‘Oscar’ style role. In terms of wingers, who knows. I couldn’t really identify who it could be, anyone have an idea?
Kane will nail down that forward role, he’s perfect for the Mourinho style.

TLDR - Toby, Erik and Kane are now firmly back on my radar.

        i would think
        Gazza
        Foyth Toby Vert Rose
        Ndombele winks
        Lucas Eriksen Son
        Kane

with alli taking one of the 3 spots behind Kane in rotation

      3. Party time
          4 years, 5 months ago

Moura should start more often. Foyth/Sanchez won't play rb with Sergeant Aurier in the team. Mourinho loves African players especially the ones from Didier Drogba's country 😉

          Gazza
          Aurier, Toby, Sanchez, Rose
          Winks,Ndombele,Sissoko/Eriksen
          Son,Kane, Moura
(Obviously Kane will play deeper 😆 )

I don't know about Vertonghen & Eriksen based on that issue they had. It is affecting their game & the team's football. Would be very interesting to see the line up on Saturday. I think Mourinho prefers a 4-5-1 but that Spurs team would look better in a 4-3-3 at the moment, easy to switch during the game however

You'd imagine this was a main point of discussion before hiring him after what happened at United. It's a bit strange of a signing tbh considering Poch's comments about just being a coach with no say over what players stay or leave. Mourinho won't accept that kind of role to such an extent

What would you do with this team?, have 2ft and 0.3m itb, had 1000 ideas that all include selling City players + Cho for popular picks like Martial/Maddison/Jimenez or differentials like Lacazzete or Son but now im thinking just Cho to McGinn for one week and decide next week...

        Pope
        Taa, Lundstram, Soyuncu, Rico, Kelly
        Kdb, Mane, Mount, Cho, Dendoker
        Aguero, Abraham, Vardy

How many transfer windows did Jose stay at Man Utd? How much did he spend in those windows?

Just trying to wrap my head around this idea that what he inherited was beyond repair when his first season, without his transfer fixes, was his most successful one.

Would be great if Moura gets regular starts under Mou. He'll be a fantastic differential asset in the 7m price bracket. Also, Mou's appointment might mean Kane playing up top again rather than in midfield. Interesting to watch Spurs this weekend...
