Mourinho replaces sacked Pochettino as Spurs head coach

It has been an eventful 12 hours at Tottenham Hotspur as they lost and gained a head coach quite literally overnight.

On Tuesday evening it was announced that Mauricio Pochettino had been sacked from his position at the north London club after five and a half years in charge.

That came after Spurs had managed just three wins and five draws from their opening 12 Premier League matches of the season, a record good enough only for 14th place.

Their Champions League campaign was also not without its problems, epitomised in a 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich earlier this season.

Just as the football world was reeling from the surprise departure on their way into bed, we all emerged the next morning to an arguably even more seismic development.

Jose Mourinho is back.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager was appointed Spurs’ new head coach in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Whether he has the desired effect there, after his two most recent managerial spells ended sourly, remains to be seen.

However, it should all make for interesting viewing when his new side travel to West Ham in Gameweek 13…

“I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.” – Jose Mourinho

We will do our best to bring you a Scout Report on Jose Mourinho, and what we believe he will bring to Spurs, as soon as possible.

I brought Son in earlier this week. Is the manager change good or bad?! My instinct is bad as Spurs may not be as attacking, but then they weren't exactly free scoring from about March this year. Mourinho will definitely like the work ethic of Son I'd imagine

    Gazza (Button)
    TAA Soy Lundstram (Tomori Rico)
    Richarlison Martial Mane KdB (Dendo)
    Jimmy Vardy Tammy

    Gw 14 Richa to Pulisic

How do we reckon Mourinho will have them lined up at Spurs then?

Known as a more defensive manager, have the likes of Paulo Gazzaniga (£4.5m) and Toby Alderweireld (£5.4m) become more attractive options?

If he plays on the counter attack then Heung-Min Son could be a crucial weapon in his armoury whilst Christian Eriksen might lack the pace whilst Deli Alli will probably be hoping for a role as the number 10 in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

And what of that man Harry Kane - explosive on international duty, will he now step it up on the domestic scene?

West Ham away this weekend certainly has the look of an obliging fixture as the Hammers have conceded 13 goals in their last 6 league games as they continue to struggle since the loss of Lukas Fabianski.

Will you now be targeting Spurs assets for your FPL teams and if so, which ones?

As above, I just transferred Son in before the managerial change. Gut reaction is Spurs will go more defensive, but that may make Son more attractive as a counter attacking option.

I am interested to monitor the fullbacks situation. I think we will have a fairly settled backline soon. No more fullback rotation nonsense. Son could be deadly on the counter but also he could be asked to track by and defend when Spurs don't have the ball. One positive for Son is that he is a work horse with so much energy and running. He is a player Mourinho usually likes and depends on.

Will be interesting to see what full backs he settles on for sure, I’ve always preferred Davies to Rose myself, just a shame he wasn’t priced up a bit cheaper really.

I think he gets a lot of stick for being 'defensive' but that's only against the other top teams. You don't win the league in multiple countries by playing 'defensive' football.

Kane and Son are a lot more interesting now imo.

After the news, I'm thinking of doing Salah>Son and Connolly>Jiminez (-4pts), going back to a 3-4-3 from 3-5-2 (with McGinn going on the bench instead of Connolly). I have Mane.

      Pros I see:

      - More defensive? Yes
      - Set fullbacks? Yes
      - Is a defensive and counter attack option better for Son compared to a high press?
      YESSSSSSSS

I used to hate it (from a fantasy - Son perspective) when Poccettino played high pressing football with a lot of possession. Lack of spaces are HORRIBLE for Son.

i think Mou will come in and immediately drop the transfer rebels in the squad to show everybody else who's the boss now

here's him talking about them to Sky earlier this season

"The Portuguese boss believes the players who wanted to leave Tottenham in the summer, including Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, have had a negative impact on the rest of the squad and on performance levels.

Speaking in September, he said: "Maybe now, the feeling that I have with what is happening with Eriksen, with Vertonghen at the end of last season, with Alderweireld, it looks like probably now, some of the boys are not so happy to stay.

"They have their eyes in bigger pictures. Other players getting more money to them, other players winning titles. Look to Kyle Walker winning trophies. Looking to the possibility of playing for Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain."

so imo if he does make an example out of the above players, then i have my eye on Foyth, Le Celso and possibly even Bavies if Rose gets dropped too, but it really is a case of wait and see for all of them for now

Having had a day to digest this car crash, Eriksen is the only player likely to benefit. Mou was interested in him in the past, so expect him to feature more.

Mourinho may stabilise Spurs and grind out a few wins.
But in FPL terms, will Spurs assets deliver more points? Maybe in defence.
But I can't remember my squad being stuffed with Man Utd players over the last three FPL seasons.

Not really, there isn't such a big difference in quality. United had some world class players (Pogba, Martial and Rashford) and Mourinho just couldn't get the best out of them. Spurs has a better midfield than United but doubt that it will make a huge difference.

Selling for Salah, better options than Sterling I wouldn't captain him

Thinking of a MNC triple-up for GW18-24. Best fixture run in the league over those game weeks.

Laca the interesting one. A cheaper investment than Auba, plays centrally. Depends really if the players belive in Emery.

They dont, I think, and Emery cant ever be trusted to start Laca every game he is fit for. My advise is stay away from Arsenal assets.

Yeah, I jumped off Auba last week for Vardy, and worked out well enough.
Individually, both Laca and Auba are fantastic players. Think at the end of the season both will still have decent hauls. But Emery's system really doesnt bring out the best in both.

Laca has been so poor for a while to be honest.. I have Auba cause I can't get rid before the next 3 games we have, then after he will probably go.

Kane and Son on my radar but too early to jump on them right now. Especially as it would imply taking hits for me. Not worth it as Im happy with my team.

    actual FPL team:

    Pope - Ryan

    FT: 2
    ItB:0.2

    C. Wilson, VVD , Otamendi --> Baldcok, vardy, soyuncu (-4) 0,6 ItB.

KDB to Son? Seen this a few times already. A managerial change and everyone is bouncing off the walls with suggestions.
The news is interesting, but not from an FPL point of view less than 24hrs old!

Son had a great relationship with Poch and highly doubt that his performance will be positively impacted. He is a great professional so should still try his best but it's likely that he'll be forced to backtrack more assuming that he plays as a winger.

As a Son owner, I'll probably sell him for a Chelsea/Leicester asset in the next few GWs.

Pocchetino's undoubtedly an elite strategist, naturally, Tottenham should finish better than where they sit now, but to think Mourinho is going to completely turn things around is foolish. First of all, it was a ridiculous decision by Levy and it's hard to imagine just the presence of Mou will motivate all those players with only a year left on their contracts to achieve anything valuable this season when lack of motivation because of bad contract management was clearly the case so far.

I think you underestimate Mourinho. He's accomplished a lot. And he knows how to motivate a group of players.

Especially ones with good attitudes already. Kane and Son are a lot more dedicated than the likes of Martial, Shaw, Pogba.

Maybe the motivation part can be dealt with but I don't think it solves their underlying troubles long term. What can go in their way, though, is that they can count on Mourinho's reputation to make it easier to attract prime players and improve the way fans and investors (sponsors) perceive the club, as an elite franchise or a side spectator.
