Spot the Differential

Three differential FPL forwards to consider ahead of Gameweek 13

With the final international break of the calendar year well and truly over, it’s time for us to turn our attention back to Fantasy Premier League.

In the previous Gameweek, we only saw one player with a double-digit ownership – Jamie Vardy (£9.6m) – to feature among the top five FPL points scorers of the round.

In fact, with the exception of Bernardo Silva (£7.9m), no other player from Manchester City or Liverpool featured in the top ten in terms of points.

This once again reinforces the importance of those plucky differentials, with two-thirds of this campaign now remaining. Here are three low-owned picks worth considering for Gameweek 13.

Gerard Deulofeu

Ownership: 2.6%
Price: £6.1m
Gameweek 13 fixture: Burnley (h)

It wasn’t long ago that Watford players were being avoided en masse. After their 8-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City, the situation looked perilous.

However, in the past five Gameweeks, they’ve somehow mustered three draws and a win that puts them only three points away from 17th spot.

The defence has had a large part to play in their recent turnaround but Gerard Deulofeu’s (£6.1m) influence hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Having failed to score in the first ten games of the season, he has now registered two goals in his last two games.

In the last two Gameweeks, he was joint-third for final third touches and ranked second for penalty area touches among forwards priced at £6.5m or less. It’s clear that he’s getting in the right places and is finally being rewarded for his efforts.

Deulofeu scored ten league goals last season and he’s more than capable of matching or exceeding that tally this time around.

However, despite featuring in every Premier League game this season, he hasn’t always started or has been subbed off early, which is a minor concern. Indeed, he has only played three complete league matches since August.

The fact that Watford have only scored four goals in their last seven Premier League games also needs to be acknowledged.

However, Deulofeu is a key focal point of their attack and the Hornets depend on him for his creative output. Their next opponents are Burnley, who have the second-worst away record in the league and who have conceded 11 goals in six games, which should bode well for Deulofeu in his pursuit to make it three goals in as many matches.

Danny Ings

Ownership: 3.0%
Price: £6.0m

Gameweek 13 fixture: Arsenal (a)

Southampton are another team that have struggled in the league since August. Goals have been in short supply and the Saints have been prone to conceding at the other end, most notably seen with Leicester City’s 0-9 triumph at St. Mary’s.

Having said that, if there’s a flicker of hope in their team, look no further than Danny Ings (£6.0m). He’s quietly scored five goals this season – more than the likes of Raul Jimenez (four), Son Heung-min (three) and Kevin de Bruyne (two).

From an attacking returns perspective, Ings has been involved in 55% of Southampton’s goals since Gameweek 1, which is all the more remarkable when considering he’s only played a full match on two occasions.

Looking at sub-£6.0m forwards over the past six Gameweeks, Ings is ranked first for most goals scored, second for goal attempts and joint-second for big chances created. There’s a strong case to be made for his name in the third forward spot.

Of course, if we look closely, he’s only scored one goal in the past three games.

But I’ve got no doubt that he can benefit with the fixture run ahead. The Saints next face a demoralised Arsenal team with one win in their last five league games and with only two clean sheets this season, which provides Ings with another viable opportunity to add to his goal-scoring tally.

Alexandre Lacazette

Ownership: 1.7%
Price: £9.3m
Gameweek 13 fixture: Southampton (h)

There’s no doubt that the Gunners’ attack has been weakened without the regular appearances of Alexandre Lacazette (£9.3m). The France international registered a respectable 25 Fantasy returns during the last campaign and much was expected of him again in 2019/20.

Unfortunately for Lacazette, injury meant that his opportunities have been largely limited since Gameweek 1.

But with Arsenal under pressure to deliver better results, he will be key in their pursuit for fourth spot. The fact that he has started their last three games and assisted twice shows that he is improving and getting back to his best.

The biggest concern with Lacazette is his expensive price tag, especially when considering that there are cheaper players like Raul Jimenez (£7.3m) and Tammy Abraham (£8.0m) that have been scoring regularly of late.

It can also be argued that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) is Arsenal’s main attacking outlet and is less likely of being rotated than Lacazette.

But if you want to capitalise on Arsenal’s good fixture run and can’t afford Aubameyang, then maybe Lacazette is an option for you.

Despite their shaky start to the season, Arsenal have scored 11 goals in six games at home. They can’t afford any more slip-ups if they are serious of finishing in a Champions League spot and it’s high time for players like Lacazette to prove their worth and pedigree.

With that defense why use almost 5 and not just get a solid fourth/fifth defender? you already benching Soy in a playable game this week. Take a look at when those you have got tricky fixtures, pick one from a team that "covers" those. Preferably gameweek 18 but also 19 to a degree. If say you get one in 4.5 region that gives you 1.5 to use either to upgrade in your first 11 or get someone at 5.9 mid for Dendoncker, if you fancy that route

I must have been on another planet these past two weeks. The amount of people who are benching Mount over the likes of Rico, Dendonker, Yarmo etc, etc,..........Mount had a very good IB with England and an attacking CFC against a makeshift City defence who will simply try and outscore you is a perfect storm for CFC and Mount.......I predict 3-3

I mean he does usually take all the bonus points when he scores. But a goal and 3 bonus makes 9, so he'd have to score twice to reach double digits.

Sadio Mane's record of seven goals in nine Premier League games against Palace is his best goalscoring record against any English top-flight opponent.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has scored more Premier League goals against Chelsea than any other player in the competition's history (10). The Argentine has netted eight goals in his last six against the Blues, including a hat-trick in this fixture last season.

Tottenham's Harry Kane has scored 28 goals in 45 Premier League London derbies - only Thierry Henry (43), Teddy Sheringham (32) and Frank Lampard (32) have netted more goals in such games. Kane averages a goal every 132 minutes in these fixtures, second only to Henry (one every 114 minutes, minimum 10 goals).

Blimey, reading commentary on UK elections is such a drag.

And some people calling Labour commies, ffs. Ridiculous. Read up on history, mate! ^^

Seems to me like there should be more than two parties to choose from, and that being run by coalition governments is more fair on the people, as there are more nuances in people's views than "either labour or tory".

For example, looks to me as if UK is only western European election area without a Green party. Myopic and holding on to the past, much?

First past the post system is broken and doesn't fairly represent the people.
Coalitions never work because as soon as Party B doesn't like what Party A isn't doing they just block any changes and hold Party A to ransom (or vice versa).

What's the consensus on Firmino here - overpriced or underrated?

In the back of my mind I want to go for him as a 3rd LIV player instead of doubling on Robbo/TAA and Salah/Mane.

He is a class player. We can rate him as 10m asset

Top player but a frustrating FPL asset. Lots of cheaper better FPL strikers to choose from

Think it's time for me to bite the bullet and bring back Tielemans for 0.3 more than I sold him for GW3 as my CHO replacement. Was planning going back to Martial, but with 2.8m ITB I like the flexibility of being able to bring Kane back for Vardy or indeed any of the big hitters should they start firing and Vardy slows up. Maddison, Martial, Pulisic all eat into these funds. Tielemans it is then. Still got him in Sky and he's ticked along nicely.

    Ryan
    Trent Lundstram Robbo
    Salah KdB CHO Grealish
    Jimenez Vardy(c) Abraham

If you like him then just go for him and take the 0.1 drop on the chin if it happens. Suspect his arrow will start turning the other way soon.

How to make the team less of a template? Set for this week but would love some ideas for future. Nothing itb

    Vardy Tammy Jimenez

I wouldn't bother worrying about what's template and what isn't.

Make your decisions based on who you think will get the most points and you'll be fine.

Team is strong. Diop can go if you need to spend a transfer

Thanks for the helpful response! I am just a little bored with my team at the moment, should just focus elsewhere for a while. Cheers!

Just one. Diop>4.4 and Pope>Hendo could be my future transfers. Guilbert is a good shout. Has a nice GW18 fixture which would be much needed

Rico - at home, better assist potential

Not much in it, probably Rico as playing at home and better chance of getting a clean sheet or assist.

    Gazza
    TAA Lund Robbo Rico
    Mane KDB Maddy
    Abraham Jimenez Vardy

    Subs: Button, Willems, Mount, Hayden

    1 FT, 1.3M ITB

    A) Mount to Richa for 1 GW punt (plays Norwich) and then get Pulisic
    B) Just get Pulisic
    C) Save and play Rico instead of Mount (4-3-3)
    D) Save and play Mount

Help please, I have 2FTs and 1.1m in the bank. No idea how to use my FT - can anyone advise me on a better budget defence rotation?
Otherwise I’m just going to shift Lowton to Charlie Taylor for the sake of banking an extra 0.3m.

    Gazzaniga (McGovern)
    TAA - Soyuncu - Lundstram - Lowton - Willems
    Mane - KdB - Maddison - Mount - Dendonker
    Kane - Lacazette - Abraham

2 weeks ago I'd be saying you had a couple of major issues, but people are excited about spurs now (I'm not).

I'd still want vardy with his form and fixtures, but can see why you'd want to stick with what you have.

So yes, I'd just sort Lowton.

    VVD Lundstram Rico
    Salah Sterling Maddison Mount
    Vardy Abraham Jimenez

    Button Cantwell Otamendi Kelly
    1ft 0.9itb

Salah to mane this week and GTG?

Plan is Otamendi to Soyuncu next week.

They seem like sound transfers unless Salah is fit, in which case I'd consider rolling the FT as you may want the Salah/Mane double - up next week.
