Grealish and Heaton fit to start in final match of Gameweek 13

Aston Villa take on Newcastle United at Villa Park this evening. Kick-off in the very last match of Gameweek 13 is at 20:00 GMT.

The Magpies are unbeaten in their last three fixtures and a win for Steve Bruce’s side would lift them above Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur into ninth.

Villa, on a three-game losing streak after a tricky run of matches, will be hoping to pull four points clear of the drop zone with victory tonight.

From a Fantasy perspective, the headline news sees the return of Tom Heaton (£4.5m) and Jack Grealish (£5.9m) from calf injuries.

Heaton missed out in Gameweek 12 and subsequently pulled out of the England squad, while Grealish hasn’t started a league game in a month.

Bjorn Engels (£4.5m) hasn’t recovered, however, so Ezri Konsa (£4.3m) starts again at centre-half.

Trezeguet (£5.2m) drops to the bench to make way for Grealish, while Conor Hourihane (£5.7m) replaces Marvelous Nakamba (£4.4m) in central midfield.

John McGinn (£5.9m), the only Fantasy Premier League asset who sits in more than 10% of squads, maintains his ever-present record.

Bruce’s only alteration from Gameweek 12 is an enforced one, with captain Jamaal Lascelles (£4.4m), who picked up a knee injury against Bournemouth, replaced by Paul Dummett (£4.4m).

Newcastle defenders have scored seven of their last nine league goals.

Not a single United player can boast a double-digit ownership, with bench fodder option Isaac Hayden (£4.4m) their most-owned player in FPL.

Aston Villa XI: Heaton; Guilbert, Konsa, Mings, Targett; McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Hourihane; El Ghazi, Wesley, Grealish.

Newcastle United XI: Dubravka; Fernández, Clark, Dummett; Yedlin, Hayden, Shelvey, Willems; Almirón, Saint-Maximin; Joelinton.

Thinking of getting Palace defender as good fixtures and rotates with Bournemouth. Got 2.6 m and 2 free transfers- thinking Cahill but which option would you go for to complete this back line. Other options in mind also as below

    TAA Söyüncü Lundstram Rico.......?

    A Cahill
    B Kelly
    C Van Aanholt
    D Aurier
    E Charlie Taylor

      Good Ebening

What is the real problem for Arsenal and how come they are not clicking into gear?

Is it Unai Emery and is he just the wrong fit for Arsenal and the Premier League?

Is it the players that are just not good enough?

Is it the fans and the likes of so called Arsenal Fan TV that put too much pressure on the players and the manager even booing them at games and calling for their heads.

I am not having a go at Arsenal but trying to figure out what the hell is wrong there as a dejected Aubameyang and Bellerin owner.

Emery has a great record as a manager though so him being crap all of a sudden just does not make since to me.

If they do sack him who could do a better job there will the same things just happen again i wonder?

They have not realised that a strong defence is the bedrock of good teams. They keep chasing 'flair' managers who play 'nice' football. They need a defensive manager who will get them clean sheets first - their attacking players have enough creativity to score goals.

              Does he?

Seems like he can't coach 3 at the back (which would suit Arsenal given how attacking the wing-backs are). I didn't see much evidence of defensive coaching at Sevilla or PSG. If anything, at PSG he seemed like he was tactically inept (how many big games did they bottle) and couldn't handle big players (Neymar and Cavani played him like a fool).

The other thing is, I don't think the Arsenal players respond to defensive training. Wenger let standards slip and you read and hear all the ex-players talk about the 5-a-side sessions etc. Not much evidence of defensive coaching going on.

Needs a culture change with the manager and the players.

I characterise Wenger's 21 years in charge of Arsenal as follows:

                  - First 7 years: Ahead of the curve (excellent at sourcing players and instilling a professional culture)
                  - Second 7 years: On the curve (other clubs caught up with finding good players and they lost their edge)
                  - Final 7 years: Behind the curve (let standards slip, couldn't 'buy' the success they had with players like before, were useless at developing their own talent)

Yeah,Wenger was lucky when he came to Arsenal that there was a great defensive unit already in place as a foundation for him to build on tbf.

Maybe you have a point Diesel.

A great player like Thiago Silva may have papered over the cracks for Emery at PSG and he has nobody of that caliber at Arsenal.

What I don't understand is that the whole world can see that Arsenal defence has been shocking for over 2 seasons, Unai has been there 18 months and it still has not been addressed, if anything its worse as he tries to convince poor players to play from the back ........Crazy

And he made it worse by getting Luiz. They must have the worst defence in the league; one who turns like an oil tanker, one who likes to score own goals or gives away gifts and a headless chicken.

Tactics are all over the place. Also gone from a possession based game under Wenger to a slightly more direct style. Team is shooting at goal way less. You look at Rodgers at Leicester where the team is built around Vardy and wonder why Arsenal aren't doing the same with Auba.

Pretty toxic there at the moment and it starts with the high prices they charge the fans. At that money, there has to be some resentment from the fans, and a few bad results will see it pouring out. IMHO

If you really get behind your team it can do wonders for the players and i just do not get that feeling from match going Arsenal fans.

KDB vs. Son feels like an important decision

KDB is almost a comfort blanket at this stage and isn’t an easy sell even with “tougher” fixtures... but Son arguably has the high ceiling and the greater goal threat, as well as the better fixtures... but a negative/defensive manager

Oh for a Crystal Ball to see how they each score over the next 5-6

        Pope (button)
        TAA-Lundstram-Soyuncu (Rico-Lascelles)
        Mane-KDB-Maddison-Martial-Mount
        Vardy-Abraham (Connolly)

I don't really rate Martial, and feel it was a mistake to bring him in. I think Rashford is the better bet for a Utd player if someone really wants one - less injuries, way more bonus pts and consistent returns this year. However, with only one free transfer this week do I:

        A. Move Connolly -> Mousset (purchased Connolly at 4.5, taking advantage of selling him at 4.6 before he drops for a better player)
        B. Mount -> Pulisic (Seems to be the template move right now. I feel this is sideways, I purchased Mount at 6.4 so I'll only get 6.6 if I transfer him out now. His form is perhaps worrying, but I feel he is the better long-term option over Pulisic).
        C. -4 to swap Martial to Son, needing to downgrade Maddison to Tielemans to fund this.
        D. Restructure the team to a 3-4-3 -> Transfer Martial to bench fodder and upgrade Connolly -> Jimenez or Rashford for a -4.

Thanks! Advice on bench fodder? (leaning towards Fleck or Hayden due to Sheffield and Newcastle fixtures coming up over GW18.

Steve Bruce reversed that bus right in front of their goal.

        Mount Maupay > Pulisic Ings/Jiminez

Thoughts on the above for a -4?

If you don't have anything more urgent to do then yes. Mount is still a great option imo.

Given good fixtures why are people moving out Mount for Pulisic - Mount looked good when came on late in City game and likely to be more nailed than Pulisic once CHO back. Surely if you have him wasted transfer for another Chelsea mid

Price swing and Pulisic has a much higher point ceiling

Let them, hopefully Lampard starts rotating Pulisic with CHO.

They really are poor, but typical match where City attackers fail to hit big FPL numbers.

Newcastle is decent at parking the bus.

For people on WC, what’s your team looking like right now?

          Guaita - (Button)
          TAA - Robbo - Lundy - Soy - (Tomori)
          Mane - KDB - Maddison - Pulisic - (Cantwell)
          Vardy - Abraham - (Greenwood)

Nope. You can have Son for Maddison if you want.
