Scoutcast Episode 309 – When FPL patience turns to stubbornness

When does patience stop being a virtue and become downright stubbornness?

This is among the issues tackled by Joe, Az and Lee on this week’s Scoutcast as they look at their own stubborn streaks and wonder whether impatience may actually be the wisest strategy this season.

Those who have been slow to catch on to Jamie Vardy’s sensational captaincy potential, and clinging to the hope that Raheem Sterling will eventually score in the league, will know about the cost of patience only too well.

There’s also plenty of input too from the community on this issue as they reveal how they may have been, perhaps, too set in their ways this campaign.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus’ credentials as a differential saviour is also on the bill, as are Spurs assets, who are already shaking up the template under Jose Mourinho. But which of the North Londoners’ wealth of attacking talent is the best to acquire?

Our trio also look back at their Gameweek 13 scores and detail their plans for the upcoming Gameweek 14 matches this weekend.

In this packed show, they also manage to squeeze in the regular features including clean sheets and Rough with the Smooth.

Finally, Az marks his return to the Scoutcast line-up to maintain his strong track record of picking differentials by taking his turn to select the next month’s best low-owned gem.

Will our trio continue to be stubborn this season, or will the patient approach prevail?

Not sure Martial out vs Villa is something I like!

Might as well save I reckon. All your players have good fixtures, although Lund v Jimenez is a bit of a pain - hoping for attacking returns from both!

2 FTs looks ideal to me.

What are everyone's thoughts on Alli vs Son vs Kane? Not as much talk about Kane but could he be an option, or is he too expensive if you're gonna be capping Vardy and Mane anyway?

Think you are right that Kane is a touch too expensive without the captaincy. Son or Alli make good alternatives.

Vardy, Jimenez and Tammy ... can't fit Kane in but can find ways of getting Son and / or Alli in

IMO Kane is now a much better option, getting into the box much more and he's Jose's main man. If I had him this week I'd captain him, but I don't so I'm between Son, Mane and Vardy.

Kane's price still puts me off.

Question I'm asking myself is has he done enough to justify £3.5m more than Jimenez, £1.5m~ more than Vardy and £3m more than Abraham? Probably not.

Still not 100% behind Alli. Looked good in the prem match but no shots in the box, was lucky to score last night given the poor clearance BUT he was in the right place so credit for that.

I think I still prefer Son, maybe even Moura and save some money!

I prefer Moura to Alli right now too, especially if nailed.

I guess that's a key point though - are we happy that the new front 4 is going to be Kane - Son - Alli - Moura or will there be rotation and if so who's most at risk?

Surely Eriksen isn't going to be perma benched...

            • 6 Years

I am confident that will be the front 4. If Eriksen does play it might be instead of Dier/Winks.

Don't think any of them will be "nailed on" except maybe Kane, but Moura is definitely the one most at risk of regular rotation imo.

Son all the way. When Mourinoh starts asking the spurs players to put a shift in, Harry Kane will be late in the box because of lack of pace and everyone will think he is playing deeper like they have thought so before.

Kane. Nailed. Pens. Only a mill more than Son (is Son immune from East Asia cup?). Spurs midfield very congested.

Kane and maybe later Aurier if defence shows better signs...

Ideal scenario for Salah owners tonight. He plays well, looks lively but doesn’t score and start imminent band wagon. The most tastiest differential captain this week for a while.

Exactly the same here - part of me is leaning towards Salah. At the start of the season I opted for Mane, mainly due to price, but that difference has gone now, and Salah is now the lower owned 'differential'...who is on penalties.

Lucas Moura is certainly one to monitor over the next couple of games.

Has been quoted as saying he's been happy reverting back to his more natural position on the wing under Mourinho. Managed 3 goal attempts in the box on Saturday, and all 3 were Big Chances.

Also assisted Kane last night too, I believe.

He did. The main worry is his minutes

Yep. Who do you think is the main threat to his minutes? Apparently Mourinho sees Sissoko as someone who play on the RW too, albeit in a different 'role' to Moura. Hence why Sissoko has replaced Moura in both games (so I've read) so far.

Maybe Eriksen/Lo Celso. Atm I cannot see Moura being dropped though, and I doubt Sissoko will start there, maybe only against top teams like City, Liverpool and Arsenal 😉

Need help spending 3.5m i have in the bank. The plan was to do Rico to Robbo but given Liverpools lack of ability to keep cleans and the blank game week on the horizon (no WC and will have 3 Liverpool players) I am having second thoughts.

    Alternatives do look quite attractive.

    Dendonker to any 7.9 mid
    Connolly to any 8.1 striker

    Current team
    Pope
    Lundstram TAA Soy Tomori (Rico)

yeah those sound great. Or will Liverpool start keeping cleans now, i mean they have the fixtures.

Puli is the obvious guy to get but just not sold on him, feel i might of missed his points and could get rotated over Xmas as he's still a kid.

Even if Liverpool may be about to go on a clean sheet spree, I think Rico to Robbo would actually cause you more headache to be honest - at least now Rico's a fairly obvious bench candidate who can occasionally come in for points. If you swap you'd have a huge headache every week about which/how many defenders to play.

I think he is. But Kane is now a very good option. It is pretty difficult for you to get him in though.

If you don't think Son is best asset maybe go:

              Sterling Deulofeu -> Kane Moura/Maddison

    Currently got:

    Pope, Button
    TAA, Soyuncu, Lundstram, Tomori, Mings
    Sterling, KDB, Maddison, Mount, Cantwell
    Vardy, Jimenez, Abraham

2 FT and 2.5m in the bank.

Going to do Sterling -> Mane/Salah as one of the transfers, but then feel like I need to get a Spurs player in given their current form. As such, leaning towards:

    a) Cantwell, Jimenez -> Son, Greenwood (-4)
    b) Tomori, Mount -> Son, Williams (-4)
    c) Save the transfer

I actually like B as an aggressive move. I havent taken a hit all season and being patient and its got me no where. Tomori will be benched most weeks and Mount to Son is a huge upgrade.

I do quite like the look of b) myself, but COYS96 suggestion is also quite tempting of:

        Sterling to Mane
        KdB to Son
        Mount to Pulisic

Would also still leave me 2.3m spare for the next inevitable bandwagon!

the risk of course is no city, we know they are good and I feel its a matter of time before they start scoring 3/4 goals every game or putting a run of consistency together. I still prefer B as Tomori will benched most weeks as you'll set up TAA Lund Soy in a back 3 with a 343 formation.

Getting rid of Jimmy is crazy imo

I would keep Sterling btw - with jesus playong alongside him i think he will shine vs New so just get Son without a hit

Newcastle will just park and the sample size of when Jesus and Raz play without Kun is too small to make judgement. I may be wrong but getting a Liverpool attacker for there run is a must I feel

Probably but if you are not capping Mane but Vardy for example then i really think Sterling will do good. Also with CL draw and securing 1st place Pep will want to smash New.
Of course there is always a chance that i am terrible wrong and Sterling does 2pts and Mane 13 🙂

Yeah, I must admit, I'm not keen on the idea of getting rid of Jimmy.

Definitely want a Liverpool midfielder, so it's either Sterling to one of them or KDB to one of them (using most of my bank money to do it) and I feel KDB is the better value at the minute.

      Sterling to Mane
      KdB to Son
      Mount to Pulisic

      Is that affordable?

Yeah, quite comfortably. Would still have 2.3m in the bank.

I did actually look at that, and am slightly tempted, but have a slight fear of having no City attackers irrespective of their current form.

    GTG?

    Pope
Taa pereira taylor ( lundi reid)
    Mane KDB sonny Maddison (Cantwell)
    Tammy Vardy jimmy

    Or anything worth a hit?

    Play Lund (wol) or Taylor(CRY)?

    Also who to cap?

Lund, he plays as an attacking mid so dont worry about the jimmy match up. He has more points than salah and shouldnt be benched at all imo

    Pope McGovern
    Robbo Soy Tomori Janmaat Kelly
    Mane Sterling KdB Tielemans Traore
    Tammy Vardy Connolly

Want to get in Pulisic and double Liv defence (Kelly>TAA), but the big question is...

    a) KdB>Pulisic + Traore>Donk + Kelly>TAA for -8pts; or
    b) Sterling>Pulisic + Kelly>TAA for -4 (then Janmaat>Lund next week)

    First to 3 votes wins...

He need a cs and an attacking return just to break even and the players you’re dumping to blank.

That’s a lot to ask for. And well home and away Liverpool defence looks dodgy.

Planning to do sterling > mane but 0.2m. Best options?

    Pope — Heaton
Taa Lundy Tomori — Rico lascelles
Mane Kdb Martial Mount — Cantwell
    Tammy Vardy Rashford

    A: Mount + Rashford >>Pulisic / Jimmy(-4)
    B: Martial + Rashford >> Son / Ings (-4)
    C: Lascelles + Rashford >> Robbo + Greenwood + 1.4m (-4) and play 442
D: Lascelles >> Kelly and take a hit next gw to remove two of Mount/martial/rashford

Pulisic easily and the other one isn't so clear cut. But I say Perez: cheaper and much better stats.

    Pope
    TAA, Soy, Tomori
    Sterling, Mane, Maddison, Mount
    Vardy, Jimenez, Tammy

    (Lund, Montoya, Dendocker)

0.5m, one free transfer. Save FT? Mount is an issue, in shite form.

Simple question: should I sell Sterling and get Son for a -4?

    That would give me this:

    Pope
    Taa Soy Lundy
    Mane(C) Son Martial Tielemans
    Vardy Tammy Jimi

    Button Tomori Hayden Hanley**

My pitiful team value has pushed me into a wildcard dilemma. Basically it's a question of having a full bench or potentially just two subs...

    B. Son + Williams

    A) VVD, Sterling, Cantwell ➡ Evans (double up with Soy), KDB, Son (-8)
    B) Sterling, Jimenez ➡ KDB, Kane (-4)

Don't mind the hits as my rank is a joke atm.
