Scoutcast Episode 309 – When FPL patience turns to stubbornness

When does patience stop being a virtue and become downright stubbornness?

This is among the issues tackled by Joe, Az and Lee on this week’s Scoutcast as they look at their own stubborn streaks and wonder whether impatience may actually be the wisest strategy this season.

Those who have been slow to catch on to Jamie Vardy’s sensational captaincy potential, and clinging to the hope that Raheem Sterling will eventually score in the league, will know about the cost of patience only too well.

There’s also plenty of input too from the community on this issue as they reveal how they may have been, perhaps, too set in their ways this campaign.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus’ credentials as a differential saviour is also on the bill, as are Spurs assets, who are already shaking up the template under Jose Mourinho. But which of the North Londoners’ wealth of attacking talent is the best to acquire?

Our trio also look back at their Gameweek 13 scores and detail their plans for the upcoming Gameweek 14 matches this weekend.

In this packed show, they also manage to squeeze in the regular features including clean sheets and Rough with the Smooth.

Finally, Az marks his return to the Scoutcast line-up to maintain his strong track record of picking differentials by taking his turn to select the next month’s best low-owned gem.

Will our trio continue to be stubborn this season, or will the patient approach prevail?

Once upon a time I was very drunk, and put Aubameyang in my team.
I now want to remove him... straight swap to Kane seems pretty logical?

    Open to more exciting options...

    Pope
    TAA, Söyüncü, Tomori
    Mane, KDB, Mount Cantwell
    KANE, Vardy, Abraham

    (Button, Lund, Rico, Hoyden)

I like the idea of Jesus, not sure i trust him. Same with Rashford I guess.

Ha! Mate last weeks FT for me! I think stick bro!

      Norwich
      Brighton
      West Ham
      Everton
      Bournemouth

With a Man City game in the middle. If anyone at Arsenal can its him. PLUS. And this is the main reason I'm keeping him: Good Ebening is a loss away from removal of post. New manager may come in and they will galvanise.

This is true. So yeah. Jesus, Kane or Rashy it is then. I'm Captaining Auba vs Norwich. 4-4 I think.

I'm guessing nothing itb? I'd proritize anything that let's you upgrade elsewhere next week. Maybe Auba to Jesus/Rash or KDB to Son/Pul.

Cantwell and Hayden is the thing that changing will bring most upside, imo.

        I've 0.8m itb

Happy with having Hayden as a dead rubber for now.
KDB is going nowhere. Had him from GW1 and think anyone that gets rid of him is insane.

You're probably right on Cantwell, but he did look good at the weekend.

Both players should do relatively well. The obsession over the newest shiniest thing is rather baffling to me, though. Plenty other cheaper options (that you may already have) that should do just as well.

        Salah maddy martial son alli

As I say, that looks fine and obv if you already had son and have that much cash itb using it get alli for saka makes sense.

People taking hits and using transfers to get in players just cause of Jose is weird though. Tiny sample, hectic period, lots of options at spurs (Quite likely he plays Winks/Ndomble/Dier v Man utd, Eriksen made an impact last night) and lots of other good options already in most people's teams.

I did saka to alli early, trying to be ahead of the curve. Turned out decent way given his assist, and set me well this week (BOU).

I did kdb to son this week cause mci losing its mojo recently and obviously dont wanna miss a party. Not really short sighted imo

One makes sense, two I'm not sure.

After Bournemouth it's Man Utd, Burnley, Wolves and Chelsea. All top half teams in terms of defensive data.

I know they've scored seven in two and everyone's excited, but it's worth reminding ourselves how bad West Ham are... Burnley and Newcastle hit three past them recently, and Olympiakos have shipped 14 goals in five CL games.

Could work this weekend, just not sure long term if they'll provide enough, over someone like Pulisic.

        Good points i agree.

But then its mour back at OT, and then wolves and che dont scream CS so anything can happen n there are grounds to be hopeful.

Yeah che mids look like more viable options given form n fixtures, but are they nailed enough? Alli n son are nailed for starts imo, and its another explosion waiting to happen before i jump to another wagon.

I think the thing that puts me off an attacking double up is the way Mourinho has traditionally setup in those bigger games, but maybe his outlook has changed.

Personally, I'm not worried about rotation with Pulisic, if it happens it happens, but I get where you're coming from.

Agree with this, none or 1 Spurs player is fine for the moment in my opinion with those fixtures, especially with how many excellent options there are elsewhere (with better fixtures). The time for a Spurs double up is boxing day onwards!

Yeah Mour gameplay is a big factor. But its a risk im gambling this week. If it fails then i might ship one out.

Puli is explosive enough to not worry about benching issue, as long as you have decent cover. But i think so many mouths to feed in that che mid n having tammy is maybr enough for thr immediate fixtures.

            Thanks man youve been helpful

I don't dislike it but with so many good options in midfield I'd like to spread my risk more. I have Kane atm and happy with that. If they start firing I might be able to squeeze Moura in.

    I'd appreciate opinions.

I've taken one -4 hit so far this season and thinking of taking another this week. With my one free transfer I moved Sterling out, leaving me with Maddison, Mane, KDB, Barnes and Dendocker in my midfield.

I would like Barnes out for Willian of Chelsea.

Make this move or hold for a week?

Is it insane to consider the following over Mount -> Pulisic (for free) for a -4 for the following:

What's the biggest hit you've taken in 1GW this season and has it worked or failed in the long run for you?

Took a -16 a few of weeks ago to get in Mane and Vardy after a disastrous early WC and had a mega-GW - made the hit back and +4, and have been considerably stronger since. Bad mgmt previously, but this was definitely worth it.

Zero hits so far. Managed to make almost all my changes with the long term in mind. Been super lucky that the most common short term punts (Marhez, Wilson v Norwich, etc) have failed miserably.

Would love a 0-4 win for City this weekend to mix things up on here.

    2x goals for Sterling.
    1x goal for Jesus.
    1x for Mahrez.

    2x assists for KDB.
    1x assist for Sterling.
    1x assist for D Silva.

Seems like a few people have this problem. Who would you bench?

A: Tomori (WHU) - 3 cleanies in a row at home, West Ham have not scored in 3 of their last 4 away games.
B: Soyuncu (EVE) - 4 cleanies in a row, Everton are dire
C: Lundstram (wol) - Loads of attacking threat but Wolves have scored every GW since GW2

      Tomori and it's not close.

Leicester have the best defensive record and Everton are dire as you said.
Lundstram is an attacking midfielder with 5 attacking returns and 4 goal attempts last week.

B but super close between A and B.

Never really put any stock in this type of thing but if you're chasing playing A rather than B more of a differential.

I think attacking return likelihood makes C a must play.

As a Liverpool fan I still don't think Salah is fully firing. Having 2 premium pool attackers also limits your captain choices and there is the upcoming blank to negotiate

But you have a live Weapon in Son and you have +2M to invest

Sterling is good, but he plays 180 minutes for England every IB. Also he is prone to be Pepped in the easiest matches- to rest. Plus, his assists are now limited by Aguero and Jesus not being super high converters this season.

Vs Southampton. Sterling should have gotten an Assist hat trick- but all were missed

Not sure what to do. Stats saying Mount to Pulisic but for value in Mount and think Pulisic will be rotated over Christmas.

Other option is 4m to Henderson (dont want rid of Pope for Palace at home) butbthat restricts potential Martial to Son move next week

    Any ideas?

    Pope,
    TAA, Tomori, Soyunchu
    Mount, KDB, Martial, Mane, Maddison
    Abraham, Vardy

    4m, Lundstram, Rico, Connolly

    2.9m itb
    2FT's

    Many thanks
