Vardy in landslide majority for Gameweek 15 captaincy among top 10k

The power of Jamie Vardy (£9.9m) continues to rise as he dominates the Gameweek 15 captaincy statistics – especially among the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers.

Ahead of the first midweek Gameweek of the season, a whopping 82.1% of managers at the highest level handed the Leicester City centre-forward the captaincy.

That’s the largest amount of support for a skipper among the top 10k all season while just under 2% of the top 10k have Triple Captained Vardy.

Vardy also won the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll this week and was selected as the best option for the armband both by the Captain Sensible article and our Scout Picks.

After scoring eight goals in six matches, Vardy now faces a Watford side without a manager and short of several key defensive personnel, while many of the other options do not come with such fortuitous circumstances in Gameweek 15.

That is best shown in the backing for Sadio Mané (£12.2m) among the top 10k.

The Liverpool man, preparing to face Everton on Wednesday night, was the second most-captained among the top 10k for Gameweek 15 but was still only backed by 6.6% of them.

That made for a massive gap between him and Vardy, one of 75.5 percentage points.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) completes the top three with a measly 2.4% backing for the Gameweek 15 captaincy at the highest level of FPL.

It will be interesting to see if Vardy can continue to make the armband his own for the foreseeable future with matches against Aston Villa (away) and Norwich (home) coming up in Gameweeks 16 and 17.

It is probably worth pointing out just how much impact a Vardy captaincy could have at lower reaches of the worldwide rankings.

Despite overwhelming support from the top 10k for Gameweek 15, only 31.9% of Fantasy managers overall have handed him the armband for the meeting with Watford.

Vardy continues to show almost complete control over the top 10k in terms of base ownership too.

In Gameweek 14, the Leicester man was in 97.4% of teams at this level, which has now risen to 97.8% for Gameweek 15.

By contrast, a chunk of managers have decided to cash in on Tammy Abraham (£7.9m) amid his injury developments.

Going into Gameweek 14, 52.9% of top 10k managers owned the Chelsea man, making him the second most-popular forward at this level.

However, this figure has dropped to just 40.4% for Gameweek 14.

Meanwhile, Raúl Jiménez (£7.7m) has gone in the opposite direction, rising from third to second in terms of most fashionable top 10k forwards.

Interestingly, Christian Pulisic (£7.5m) has not yet shown up in the top 10k template just yet, his colleague Mason Mount (£6.6m) still inside the top-five (28.8%).

That just goes to show how much of a differential Pulisic could be as Chelsea host Aston Villa on Friday night.

That said, Mount does continue to fall from grace among the top 10k.

In Gameweek 14, he sat in 39.1% of teams at this level but has dropped to just 28.8%.

Travelling in the opposite direction is Son Heung-min (£9.8m), who is benefitting from the Jose Mourinho resurgence.

No Spurs attacker has scored more points than him across the former Manchester United manager’s, which is why his stock continues to rise among the top 10k.

Son sat in 30.9% of squads at that level in Gameweek 14 but is now owned by 38.2% of them.

Meanwhile, the goalkeepers and defenders preferred by the top 10k have stayed the same for Gameweek 15, including their popularity rankings.

As expected, chip usage was generally quite sparing for Gameweek 15 but there were still some interesting lines.

We’ve already mentioned that 1.6% of top 10k managers opted to Triple Captain Vardy.

However, despite fears over midweek rotation, the Bench Boost was actually the most deployed chip.

2.2% of managers in the top 10k have opted to add their substitutes’ scores into their total points tally for Gameweek 15.

That could be considered a brave decision considering that we have just embarked on the first midweek Gameweek of the campaign, of which many were concerned about rotation.

Because he was on my bench.

With the benching headaches I’ve had this week I never considered him anything other than 3rd sub.

But then considering I’ve benched 169 points already this season I really shouldn’t be surprised to see him sitting on 9 points

    TAA Robertson Lundstram (Rico Taylor*)
    Mane Martial Pulisic Tielemans (Dendoncker)
    Kane Vardy Abraham

2FT, I would like to turn Tielemans into Alli but I don't like any of the downgrade options.
Which would you downgrade (need 1.7) to get Alli?

    A. Kane

Bournemouth were rather poor, weren't they? 71 mins vs 10man, and barely created anything.

What if it's a ploy by Bournemouth to put Arsenal off Howe, to be temporarily crap, deceiving Arsenal into looking elsewhere?

    1. ZimZalabim
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 3 months ago

They always have a spell where they are absolutely shocking and all the pundits say that howe will turn it around and that Bournemouth are such a great club that they give him time and then he does and they finish comfortably, having said that they looked kind of clueless yesterday, buying Solanke seems like a real miss step looks out of his depth at this level might need to drop down a level and get regular games

      1. Differential C (Mark)
        • 8 Years

The strikers that have failed under Howe and looked good in other clubs, like Gradel, Mousset, Solanke before he joined, make me question his development. There have been successes like Wilson, but his failures seem under reported.

They are fairly rubbish anyway - very much bottom 8 fodder- just capable of going on runs. From time to time. Very rarely lasts. Think they buy much better than they play.

I've made two silly transfers in recent GWs that are annoying me, getting in McGinn over Grealish a few GWs ago and getting in Tielemans a couple of GWs ago!
Really boring herd moves, unlike me, on players that I didnt really want!
Any similar tales of woe in recent GWs?

Maybe the heard has 😉 But I transfer in usually players I believe in. Learned my lesson during rookie season. The idea is to chase future points, not last week pts.

Yey I had two ft:s last year and had no idea what yo do. So I transferref Barkley in and out and got 2 pts and .1 sv.

I got Tielemans in out of fear of not having enough Leicester but lets face it Vardy is plenty!
McGinn's international form threw me and I didnt give the Grealsih situation enough thought (but think he was flagged at the time in my defence).

Transferring in players you believe in is like saying I only transfer in players I think will score points!!

Timing is everything in fpl and form etc can change quickly (Mcginn over Grealish is good example) and I’ve had a nightmare on that front this season...usually what I do well is getting a player in before they hit form but this season I got in Aguero before his benchings and captained him throughout it, switched to sterling and then he went off the boil, held off on getting Vardy and kept Pukki before the Southampton game, think there’s a few more but those ones stick out to me!!

        There is my theory.

All Chelsea forwards were priced kindly at the start beacasue nobody knew who will be main man. Now we know, Chelsea is doing well so Tammy looks underpiced - towers protect his value to make game more difficult

        1. FPL Pillars
          • 7 Years

I don’t like one rule for one player and another for someone else. It’s unfair especially when people sell expecting to him to drop a lot but we’re going to buy back. It wasn’t clear was it, bad game design.

So the expectation of falls is the reason that it is unfair?

          2. rojojojo
            • 6 Years
            4 years, 3 months ago

I like one rule for a player who was clearly underpriced at the start of the season. Tammy was such good value, he was in over 50% of squads because there was no reason not to have him. He should have started the season at about 8.5m, so yes, they should protect his price. If he drops back down there's going to be no reason not to have him again, making the game less interesting.

It also makes selling him when he's injured also have pros and cons - If he was guaranteed to drop back down to 7.5, everyone would have sold him, whilst the lack of guarantee means it's a choice with an element of risk which makes the game more interesting. As it happens, I took that risk, and if I get him back, I might have to pay more, but it was a risk I was willing to take due to the fact that 3 gameweeks were really close to each other.

The price predictor sites are just trying to guess, they're not owned by FPL - They're often wrong so just take their predictions as what they are - just predictions not anything set in stone. You can't feel cheated when they're wrong.

              4 years, 3 months ago

Come on mate, you don't need a price predictor to know something's wrong with Tammy's price. He is sold by almost 1.5 mil. teams, that has to mean something. I don't agree with you at all, it's not fair to change the "rules" about pricing during the season and with players they think are "important" or whatever.

          3. Railwayman
            • 11 Years
            4 years, 3 months ago

This. Especially when they pretend and lie about some "algorithms". Know it's more than obvious that there no algorithms, they do what they want with the prices. It's a disgrace, at least let us know that, so we act accordingly.

    17. Railwayman
      • 11 Years

FPL really should tell us for once how these prices work, this is a scandal with Tammy. You sell knowing that other people will do too and expect his price to fall a little bit, so you could bring him back maybe. And all of the sudden he is sold by 1.5 mil. managers with just one price drop. It's a disgrace because they are lying us with some so called "pattern". It obvious that there is no pattern, they do what ever they want and manipulate the prices. Same thing already happened with Martial and KDB.

      1. HashAttack
        • 7 Years
        4 years, 3 months ago

It is a scandal! ... I don't think a 100K drop per GW is unreasonable given the massive sales

If they want to artificially increase a player's price, to adjust for an error in the first place, then they should just make his rises easier ... benefit the players who spot the bargain early

The current method of just preventing price drops, encourages a safer, more "casual" approach to the game - it seems to be the antithesis of what they should be aiming for
