Vardy in landslide majority for Gameweek 15 captaincy among top 10k

The power of Jamie Vardy (£9.9m) continues to rise as he dominates the Gameweek 15 captaincy statistics – especially among the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers.

Ahead of the first midweek Gameweek of the season, a whopping 82.1% of managers at the highest level handed the Leicester City centre-forward the captaincy.

That’s the largest amount of support for a skipper among the top 10k all season while just under 2% of the top 10k have Triple Captained Vardy.

Vardy also won the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll this week and was selected as the best option for the armband both by the Captain Sensible article and our Scout Picks.

After scoring eight goals in six matches, Vardy now faces a Watford side without a manager and short of several key defensive personnel, while many of the other options do not come with such fortuitous circumstances in Gameweek 15.

That is best shown in the backing for Sadio Mané (£12.2m) among the top 10k.

The Liverpool man, preparing to face Everton on Wednesday night, was the second most-captained among the top 10k for Gameweek 15 but was still only backed by 6.6% of them.

That made for a massive gap between him and Vardy, one of 75.5 percentage points.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) completes the top three with a measly 2.4% backing for the Gameweek 15 captaincy at the highest level of FPL.

It will be interesting to see if Vardy can continue to make the armband his own for the foreseeable future with matches against Aston Villa (away) and Norwich (home) coming up in Gameweeks 16 and 17.

It is probably worth pointing out just how much impact a Vardy captaincy could have at lower reaches of the worldwide rankings.

Despite overwhelming support from the top 10k for Gameweek 15, only 31.9% of Fantasy managers overall have handed him the armband for the meeting with Watford.

Vardy continues to show almost complete control over the top 10k in terms of base ownership too.

In Gameweek 14, the Leicester man was in 97.4% of teams at this level, which has now risen to 97.8% for Gameweek 15.

By contrast, a chunk of managers have decided to cash in on Tammy Abraham (£7.9m) amid his injury developments.

Going into Gameweek 14, 52.9% of top 10k managers owned the Chelsea man, making him the second most-popular forward at this level.

However, this figure has dropped to just 40.4% for Gameweek 14.

Meanwhile, Raúl Jiménez (£7.7m) has gone in the opposite direction, rising from third to second in terms of most fashionable top 10k forwards.

Interestingly, Christian Pulisic (£7.5m) has not yet shown up in the top 10k template just yet, his colleague Mason Mount (£6.6m) still inside the top-five (28.8%).

That just goes to show how much of a differential Pulisic could be as Chelsea host Aston Villa on Friday night.

That said, Mount does continue to fall from grace among the top 10k.

In Gameweek 14, he sat in 39.1% of teams at this level but has dropped to just 28.8%.

Travelling in the opposite direction is Son Heung-min (£9.8m), who is benefitting from the Jose Mourinho resurgence.

No Spurs attacker has scored more points than him across the former Manchester United manager’s, which is why his stock continues to rise among the top 10k.

Son sat in 30.9% of squads at that level in Gameweek 14 but is now owned by 38.2% of them.

Meanwhile, the goalkeepers and defenders preferred by the top 10k have stayed the same for Gameweek 15, including their popularity rankings.

As expected, chip usage was generally quite sparing for Gameweek 15 but there were still some interesting lines.

We’ve already mentioned that 1.6% of top 10k managers opted to Triple Captain Vardy.

However, despite fears over midweek rotation, the Bench Boost was actually the most deployed chip.

2.2% of managers in the top 10k have opted to add their substitutes’ scores into their total points tally for Gameweek 15.

That could be considered a brave decision considering that we have just embarked on the first midweek Gameweek of the campaign, of which many were concerned about rotation.

I only saw part of the game last week, but Tielemans looked like he was sitting further back... Is that a fair assessment? Should I be reconsidering his place in my team?

I think it depends on what other fires you have to put out in your team (for me Mount out for Grealish tomorrow is higher priority). Only one return since I got him so a little disappointed, but Maddison has not done any better. He's got a great fixture tonight and two more nice ones before GW18, so for me he's a definite hold until then.

Yeah I own Martial but McGinn is my 1st sub & Rico 2nd sub. All this Pulisic talk of him being rested I wouldn't mind so Rico can come in. Saying that Pulisic could easily beat Rico's score.

They’re obviously all good options but i think playing 5 at the back and wanting so many clean sheets each week isn’t going to be very fun/rewarding.

Also, Liverpool still can’t keep any.

Why do I feel I’m locked in a Sterling conundrum? Failed again last night as did DeBruyne ... but along with Salah they’re my differentials now. The vast majority of the league is total template so there’s almost nothing to gain in shifting. Have Son and I’m not going to double up Spurs .... ah well....red arrows for the rest of the season!

Picking the best players no matter how template you think it is will work. All your players may seem highly owned and template but the chance of many having exactly the same 10-11 players as you is slim.

I would love the Salah/Mane double up for bou WAT if it wasn't for the blank coming 🙁

Yeah - if going that route I’d likely ditch both for GWs 18 &19 pre a GW20 WC, so I think it’s an option.

Too many games left, only JWP is doing something from your midfield.

      My team atm:
Too much bench for the Xmas period?
Pope/Guaita (Glad I got Guaita in time)
Aurier TAA Lund Soy Tomori (Think Tomori a waste)
Pulisic Alli Mane KDB Zaha (Pul Al Zah concerned about Knee-jerk)
      Jimmi Vardy Mousset

If Tomori go's after my bench boost is used, do you think that is a good enough reduction?

            Yes.
Rico/Kelly/Taylor is maximum I'd use for that spot.
Having 8 attackers is cool though for festive season. I'm also going to bring Grealish as my 8th attacker

If cash isnt required for other positions, then its not too much.

Can always downgrade them if required.

My thought process too. Anyway, I went Pulisic Alli and Guaita for bench boost.

Happy with that too. The wrong reasons to use the BB but at least I won't be searching for a way of getting 4 DGW benchers who don't score.

                Nice Sir.
I'm also tempted to do that in gw 17 but won't have a playing GK so not possible.
Like getting BB out from window though. You now can focus on starting 11 for the rest of the season

After last night hold on to Sterling for Derby or drop and reinvest funds? Team is
      Pope Ramsdale
      Lundstram Soy Willems Tomori Rico
      Mane Sterling KDB Alli Guendouzi
      Vardy Ayew Ings

Having both Mane and Sterling gives you Guendouzi and Ayew and no pool defender.
it wuill be interesting how you fair because I opted for the more financial spread approach.

I sink Pool defenders' returns will diminish in the coming weeks. Can do with a better striker though.
Held on to Ayew due to easy fixtures for 3 GW with no returns, will drop him next. RT now my OR is 420k

Ayew faces Watford next so probably last chance. Dont have faith in Chelsea, too overvalued because of its league position

Damn it, Pieters drops in price again! :/

This season, I have lost 0.2 on Pieters, King, Salah, Perez and 0.3 on Wood.

Pieters to Aurier is tight now.

Well at least there's consistency now. They kinda freeze players who are underpriced. I got Abraham out as well but it was because he had an injury in the busiest schedule of all, so even a week injury could miss him three matches, and from gw18 onwards, Chelsea fixtures aren't that favorable either

In ffix he has been -150 for three days each night. That logic does not make sense to me.
